Isnt he just the Southampton academy director and has nothing to do with the first team? Southampton actually have a decent academy tbf to them so might not be as bad as it first seems

Do you know who the last academy director we hired as DOF was?

Southampton have always had a good academy. They benefit from a huge catchment area. It's why coaches are desperate to go there because they look good for a bit and end up getting a promotion.....

It’s also a fairly large catchment area, and Youth Development wouldn’t be his sole remit

What does a technical director do in football

Answer the question what does a technical director do in football? by defining the job's primary responsibilities. Football technical directors help football clubs to develop a sustainable business model and sporting identity over a multi-year period. They may cultivate global fanbases to increase annual revenue, design young player and coaching development programmes and manage squad recruitment. Your exact responsibilities can vary depending on whether you focus on business-side or sport-side activities. Football technical director's duties can overlap with those of other football management professions, such as directors of football.Football technical director's responsibilities often include:

  • maximising football clubs' annual revenue
  • setting revenue targets for different operations, such as ticket or merchandise sales
  • negotiating annual player transfer and wage budgets with owners and first-team coaches
  • developing the club's playing style and coaching culture
  • recruiting players and managers whose football skills fit the club's sporting culture
  • negotiating in-bound and out-bound player transfers with other clubs
  • agreeing on shirt and stadium sponsorship deals with brands
  • setting up academies to develop young players
  • forming local or international scouting networks
  • managing relations with sport media
  • analysing commercial performance
  • fining players for breaches of contract

Do you remember how bad our academy was as well when he was in charge? Southamptons academy has been decent for years including the time this bloke has been there. The Chelsea under 21 manager is from the Southampton system as well

That’s all do to with Jo Shields progression at Man City and how he fell on his feet getting to know an incredibly talented crop of youngsters whilst they were hoovering up talent there.

If he was coming on as academy manager, then absolutely. But the rumour is technical director

Russell was one of the biggest reasons, if not the biggest reason, I decided to come to Swansea over other options,” lauded Goldie. “He is fantastic.

Never expected it to be anyone decent - this is someone who is ultimately going to be answerable to Aiyawatt & Rudkin. Nobody of any stature or track record is going to put themselves through that - they don't need to.

Southampton again (!), similar sort of CV to what Rudkin had before he was overly promoted. Sounds like everything I expected. Not to mention the obvious Russell Martin link.

It's basically everything I expected.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if our strategy was to just copy what Southampton do. Some baffling decisions going all the way back to Puel.

Especially as it looks like we're producing two high value assets a year in the academy at present.

Southampton, Man City etc all were brilliant when passing football was the system to have. It's now quick transitions, which neither do well.

Ultimately this appointment to be any good, just like the manager, needs to be someone who'll tell those two twats to do one. But for precisely that reason, they will not bring somebody in who is a risk of actually going that. This is why this ownership is a bust and needs to go ASAP.

They very nearly had this happen with Maresca. He'd sussed these idiots pretty quickly - as early as that ridiculous preseason tour, but we lost him just in time. Horrendous luck for the club on the whole.

Just the CV we want for a technical director

He should at best be head of youth development or that kind of role

Can't be a coincidence that his clubs overlap Martin's then? haha

Just a complete coincidence this has happened (and been announced) following the boycott, I assume.

No idea on whether this is positive or not for you, based on the comments I see lots of scepticism, but it goes to show a reaction.

I’m sure the naysayers will tell us it’s completely unrelated to move a Director out of the focus and operational decision making who is disliked by supporters and employ 3 new people.

Of course these appointments haven’t been made in the last 12 hours, but the boycott was planned for long enough beforehand.

Whilst they may be shite appointments (time will tell), it goes to show a reaction.

What is our obsession with ****ing Southampton, do we feel sorry for them because we savaged them once upon a time? Next we will be doing ****ing shoebox Christmas’s and soup kitchens for them….

Aiyawatt's original video was released right after the fans had been singing derogatory stuff at Norwich in early November. I wouldn't be surprised if that without that, they had still to this day not released the video.

And then almost with Potter who demanded his own DOF

We are raiding a club we haven't finished below since 2017. Whose owners are almost as unpopular as ours.

Brilliant work.

Oh my god, one of Brussell's disciples. How clueless must we be. Obviously just asked Martyn Glover if he knows anyone.
