I thought I'd do a quick google on whether we were paying the most in the division, and first link was to capology:

We have the highest paid 3 players in the division, 4 out of the top 5 and 9 out of the top 16. I don't even want to carry on looking for whole team stats.

Absolutely disgusting the shift these players are putting in for their wages.

Winks and Faes are both in the Top 10 and their attitude is even worse than the 24th placed team. Daka is being paid to actively not score, and Choudhury is taking home £50k a week to daydream on the half way line while his winger is tearing down the pitch.

I just hope the players that were actually playing last night could understood why there were so many empty seats...

The highest paid player in the division is fit, but having as much influence on games as me.

These stats are alarming but they do need a bit of context around them. Mart changed the system recently to a midblock (though we still conceded our goal by having a stupidly high line), and that system deliberately does not press as high up the pitch so should involve less running around overall. That said, a mid block should still engage the opposition once they are in the middle of the park, and the sprinting stats are damning there. However, here are even more stats that back-up what the eye test already tells us:

Stats-26.jpg

But just for reference, during the season we won the Premier League:

  • Sky Sports shows that no Leicester players were in the top 10 for total distance at that stage of the season.

  • Marc Albrighton was Leicester’s top distance runner at that point: 254.19 km (19th overall).

Stats-15.png

Here are the distance run per 90 stats and you can see that though we did run a lot more that season, we weren't top of the league for it. But it does show you that when we defended, the work rate of Okazaki, Albrighton and Kante was something to behold and on the break the searing pace of Vardy and Mahrez meant we covered the hard yards.

So overall even though we might not be playing a high pressing system, we aren't working hard enough to engage in the areas we choose to do so, and it's no reason we are unable to boss a game as a result.

In other words our dream team of 2015/16 was bloody efficient. Defensively solid and ruthless and deadly in attack!
I like our players to run but not like

headless chickens with no purpose. They have to be smart which they obviously aren’t in so many of our recent games.

its a very strange steam - either Marti is coaching them to be like this or they are just trying to figure it out themselves game by game often repeating the same patterns.

It is really eye opening to see the teams turning up here looking fresher going into the last 20 minutes when we look dead. Something isn't right, and it's either attitude or coaching, or both. Either way, not good enough.

Probably the broken pre season didn’t help

Sums up the club. Laziness and lack of motivation is running through it.

I could just about understand it if we were dynamic and dominant with the ball but we aren't.

This image needs laminating on A3 and putting up on every wall and corridor in Seagrave.

And as punishment for the rest of the season they have to run everywhere in the week whilst at work

Exactly this.

And why is it that, despite being absolutely garbage at moving around the pitch, we always look like the least fit team?

The least fit, while covering the least amount of ground.

Shocking.  That's on the manager setting appropriate professional standards.

Someone has to be bottom I guess so I'd be interested to see the actual numbers on how far behind we are.

Many factors here - lack of fitness, lack of confidence, lack of motivation, shit manager and in certain players, a lack of capability.

Yeah it means nothing on its own without context.

I’m pretty sure that post match it was mentioned by Sky that the team that had covered the most distance in the Championship this season was West Brom.

Sky get their stats from Opta which aren’t published entirely as you have to pay for them.

They’re a bunch of lazy piss-taking bastards. How on earth does anyone at that club think this is acceptable?!

Would like to see this broken down into individual players as well, as like others have said James must single handedly drag us up a few spots. I imagine it will lay bare that we have several of the lowest workrate players in the league/country.

We’re higher than 22nd for sprints, it’s just the sprints of Vesty, Faes, Skipp and Ayew don’t meet the speed threshold the tech uses in its algorithm

Like judging a pug by Greyhound or Whippet standards….

Aiyawatt can't be arsed to turn up for games. The players can't be arsed to run.

I think Marti's hopeless, but no manager will be successful here when there's such glaring cultural issue rife within this football club.

Seagrave is a holiday camp and mediority and apathy is not only rewarded in renumeration by the club, but also applauded by the supporters.

Near to the bottom in running & sprints. Near to the bottom in tackling and heading duels. Near to the top in unforced errors leading to conceding goals. Yet the players tell us that continuing to work hard is the answer.

Seems their definition of hard work differs to mine.

I can stomach players on high wages when they were signed for the prem.

we signed winks as a championship club. In a year after we just got relegated because we couldn’t make any moves because of our overspending and psr issues. That is beyond incompetence it’s criminal negligence

As well as Coady who I'm sure was on £75k a week and hardly played. Ridiculous contract management which shows how outnof touch they are. I'm sure allotment contracts given out in last 5-7 years have been in relation to Vardy's 125k. You can imagine Winks' agent saying 'Vardy's on 125k so Harry should be on 35% less than that as he has played in a CL final.' With Rudkin thinking he has played a blinder.

Does the lack of distance covered stat actually surprise anyone?

With the exception of the last four or five games the coaching/ management staff have actually encouraged laziness and sheer sloth by having Boubakary Soumaré as a guaranteed starter. Without doubt, the other squad members, young and old alike, will have seen him get away with expending the absolute least ammount of energy in each game and yet still get picked - and still get paid way more than themselves (bar 1). Talk about setting the wrong example - he has turned strolling about the pitch and contributing NOTHING into an artform - basically taking the p*ss and yet actively encouraged by the coaches for the first four months of the season. No real surprise then that others follow suit.

Is he injured now? or finally dropped? He really does need to be gone this month and take his £80,000 pw wages with him - maybe things will improve then (slightly:D!!).
