The bond is a great idea.

As for Chansiri he could have done what the old Derby owner did and wave his right to any money owed, this ensured Derby got sold for a reasonable price and minimised the risk of a further 15 point deduction.

I listened to the Price of Football podcast they had a Sheffield Wednesday special it was really interesting, discussing that the interested parties will have an overall budget to buy the club and to invest in players, infrastructure etc so the buyers will be taking calculated risks as to how best they spend what they have available. Do they pay the full asking price and avoid the 15 point deduction but not have funds to strengthen the playing squad and infrastructure or do they take the 15 point deduction but have more to invest to improve the playing squad with a view they can make up the difference and sneak into the play offs.

You do have to feel for the Sheffield Wednesday fans in all this, as this will be two seasons in a row where there season has been derailed before a ball has even been kicked.

Anyone buying a club should have to put a % of money into a bond, the bond is returned if they decide to sell.

The bond doesn't get returned if they are found to be unfit to run the club and is used to support the club until a new buyer is found.

This is an excellent suggestion basically is a way of implementing what I said above in a organised way.

Agreed. I find the whole thing bizarre. PSR is supposed to protect clubs from bad owners and here the EFL want to punish the club if the bad owner doesn't get rewarded,

Who's more corrupt?

Well remember its the owners who vote on the rules that are brought in.  It explains why this rule would be in place, they protecting themselves.

I was googling and couldn't find out what's happening with the appeals against the points deduction. The club appealed the deduction. The Premier League wanted more points deducted. With two months of the season left , surely this would be sorted soon? Perhaps it's not being sorted because of the position we are in? ... Wouldn't want to start next season with a further points deduction whichever league we are in. What's everyone else know or think ?

It makes me so angry seeing Chelsea getting a £10 million fine today, for a historic financial breach.  No question of a points deduction.  The PL just save that for the smaller clubs.  No need to punish the big boys. £10 million is small change to them.

We were bang to rights and defended cases, they brought the news to the PL upon take over, otherwise it would’ve likely never come to light

A points deduction was considered, but not given, because the new owners blamed it on the old owners basically.  Essentially the dodgy stuff happened on abramovich’s watch.  The new owners spotted it and owned up.  That honesty has got them a light punishment.  So it’s OK to commit a crime if you don’t get caught at the time, and fess up to it years later.

Aren't they appealing our deduction because they believe not submitting accounts on time is worthy of a points deduction yet this discrepancy is only worth a fine?

Does anyone know what grounds we are appealing the points deduction? Are we appealing the whole 6 point deduction or are we counter appealing the PL's appeal to try and deduct us more points because we didnt file our accounts on time?

If we are appealing the whole 6 points, which I assume we would do on Nick De Marco's recommendation, then we must feel like we have a strong case.

I did always question the legality of the points deduction, as even though its clear as day we breached, the PL/EFL recently changed their rules to tighten up the loopholes for relegated teams, so im not sure how they could retrospectively punish a team using rules that weren't actually in place when the offences happened.

I don't know enough about it and im just guessing at it all really, but this has the potential to cause a huge shit storm if our appeal was successful, we got the points back and stayed up as a result. Or even worse, the decision didn't get decided until after the season finished, we'd already been relegated but yet still won the appeal. How would that work?

Nah, thats ludacrus. They cheated the rules for years to win titles. The premier league released a statement when Everton were first charged saying that a fine wouldnt be suitable because it wouldnt prevent people breaking the rules in the future.  Its beyond hypocrisy and they bank on people shrugging it off like you just have

They can only punish Chelsea based on the rules in place at the time.  PSR was not.

Not sure on the appeal, but they said that the conclusion for this will come before the end of the season.

I think they are counter appealing the EPL for extra point that they feel we should have been given. I might be wrong though.  Retrospective action shouldn't be allowed. You shouldn't be able to change the rules to your liking them go back and punish us, however much the clowns at the club deserve it.

PSR and I feel football in general is a big joke at the mo. I really hate what it has become. It isn't enjoyable, it's decided on paperwork and isn't exciting because teams want to pass to death and players in general seem to becoming thick and robotic. Where's the characters, the flair?

Henry Winter said on the BSLB podcast that there was a ‘bit of tit-for-tat’ going on with the two appeals. He didn’t specify which side decided to appeal first and which tried to counteract it with its own appeal. I suspect you’re right and that the PL drew first, but I wouldn’t put it past us to do so either…

We know we broke the rules at the time and we were punished. We also know the rules were flawed and the premier league want the “elite” to stay the elite.

But facts are facts I guess.

That said it might help our appeal cause, though probably not.

Bloody hell that sounds like a decent idea tbf, why can’t anyone at the football authorities actually do something that would protect clubs. No one legitimate should have an issue with that.

The Everton ruling wording is interesting

I wasn’t aware of that

but it’s typical premier league ‘corruption’

the clubs vote and the clubs decide

nothing will happen but it’s possible that the FA may try and stick their oar in,  a regulator certainly would have. (Which is why the PL don’t want that)
