steveb Posted 23 February Posted 23 February Sheffield Wednesday deducted 18 points currently have -7 pts and become the earliest dated team to ever be relegated. Could so easily have been us, 6pts was a bit of a let off. Its going to be a tough fight to stay up for us but only 2 places to fill at the bottom to go.
Popular Post AKCJ Posted 23 February Popular Post Posted 23 February Fair play to any Wednesday fan that wanted to go and watch that. Couldn't imagine going to the City Ground to watch us get relegated in February. 10
Popular Post davieG Posted 23 February Popular Post Posted 23 February It's a somewhat artificial relegation though you can argue the merits of points deductions but it's not a relegation that's been played on the pitch. I find it very sad that this is what football has come to with dodgy owners and money dominating the discussions rather than the football played on the pitch. 35 4

We all love rivalries but you'd have to be a special kind of person to enjoy that. Okay yeah they probably did.

Tuna Posted 23 February Posted 23 February Bloody awful having your club relegated at the home of your arch City rivals.
jimsmallman Posted 23 February Posted 23 February Got family who support Wednesday so feel very sorry for them. Hopefully they'll have new owners in place for next season and they can do a proper reset. Far too big a club to be in League One.

They probably are but they've also spent enough time in the third tier. Not been a top flight club in 26 years which is incredible really. 2

adejo92 Posted 23 February Posted 23 February (edited) Its a shame its the fans that suffer. Hopefully they blitz League 1 and start to rebuild and recover. Edited 23 February by adejo92 1
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 23 February Posted 23 February Feel sorry for the club and fans, terrible mismanagement compounded by the points deduction, kick em when they’re down.
LCFCJohn Posted 23 February Posted 23 February Makes me wonder what they will do next season. If us and Oxford go down with them, we really have to be making the most of the fact are in a mess (as oppose to if other clubs went down like Cardiff this year who are dominating). Realistically we would likely be in as much of a mess and both be struggling at the wrong end!

Exactly my thoughts….. nothing to celebrate at all and it’s sad reality of the state of modern football. Games on its arse, and it’s getting worse and worse.

Tbf they've won one game all season and picked up 9 points. They've been shit on the pitch too. 2

I do wonder what the difference would be. They would certainly be down still but would they have at least been more competitive? Maybe. But it just affects the whole league as a competition. Ours a bit as well but given it only just happened we have at least had the opportunity to be competitive on the pitch but have just chosen not to be! It will likely push the points for survival above the normal amount as well which is bad news for us.

brookfox Posted 23 February Posted 23 February Honestly don’t think it’s beyond the realms of possibility if we go down that we get such a massive sanction we go down again!

Don't get me wrong, I understand that poor management off the pitch is why they've gotten in to their situation. Much like us. But I still wouldn't necessarily call it a manufactured relegation. It's not like they've been docked 60 points and would otherwise be a mid table side.

Foxin_Mad Posted 23 February Posted 23 February Points deductions are the dumbest load of shit that anyone has ever come up with. Talk about kicking someone when they are down. Its very rare that a club can gain any sporting advantage by going bust, why are the supporters of a club punished for the fact that the football authorities continue to let corrupt clowns from overseas destroy our clubs? If you are going to have things like FFP then you must punish the big boys too. In recent years Chelsea, United and City have done some very dubious business but its been allowed whilst they hammer the smaller clubs for everything they can. 3

ceebeefox Posted 23 February Posted 23 February Sad day, great old club and ground, hopefully get the owners that can bring better days. The sooner the Brentford’s Bournemouth’s Fulham’s and Brighton’s are replaced the better.
