kingfox Posted 1 June Posted 1 June The fact they are seemingly trying to persuade Martin, just goes to show how thick our board is. Two seasons of capitulation, where a broken fanbase needs galvanising and motivated, to the point where the club needs to build attendances back up. Russell Martin isn’t the answer to those three things. His style of football has run it’s course at this football club, a large section of the fanbase are bored with it. The club will turn more fans away if it’s Russell. Seeing his face on the back of today’s Leicester Mercury is depressing enough. 2
AKCJ Posted 1 June Posted 1 June (edited) June and no manager. Can we get a ****ing move on for once please? Edited 1 June by AKCJ 3
Tuna Posted 1 June Posted 1 June About time posters were banned for vagueposting just a name and "incoming". Silly, juvenile behaviour. 1

How many championship players can play it well? Not many. This is the reason this doesn't make any sense. His stats aren't great over a number of years. Thisan would be a disaster and his football won't work in league 1. We need to be direct robust and that everything Martins 'tactics' are not. Another short sightedness from board. I hoped with McCarron we would have a wider net to look at potential managers, but if we end up with the usual suspects, nothing has/will change, not a single lesson has been learnt from the last 4/5 years. Please let it be bull bottom, because that is what it'll be be I agree with you, tight pitches, everyone’s cup final it’s going to be an absolute slog for 46 games Chanillor is my pick but I can’t be us being in for him unfortunately

The thing is, we haven’t been playing Russell ball. Martin dials up possession football ball to 11. It’s like the board have decided the problem isn’t the style, it’s we aren’t committed enough to it. Edited 1 June by Chelmofox
Popular Post Ric Flair Posted 1 June Popular Post Posted 1 June Got it on good authority we haven't even spoken to Brussell this time around. However, I have always been convinced he ends up here at some point and staggered it hasn't happened yet. 9 1

Lineker's Left Foot Posted 1 June Posted 1 June Have it on good authority that no news will happen this week.
winteriscoming Posted 1 June Posted 1 June I hope we’ve at least spoken to other managers who have no previous connection with Southampton. I somehow doubt it.
Iwebema Posted 1 June Posted 1 June I wondered if they will be looking for a biggish name, someone that will pull in some global/commercial attention. Rather than someone like Challinor, perhaps Steven Gerrard. As always there arent many leaks but I am getting a bit concerned we are in June now and all I have heard is Russell Martin, I actually dont think it will be him, I think he will try and rebuild his reputation abroad where a fan base may have less preconceptions about him.

Alan Nixon, who first reported our interest in Martin, was weirdly distancing himself from the story last night. If it turns out that all of those—including me—who have lost their heads over this rumour have been getting into a complete paddy over nothing, today will be a good day 2

Wink84 Posted 1 June Posted 1 June Cba to look through, can anyone update me if were lose to signing a new manager yet? Or even rumoured interest from us?

We're 0 from 4 with Bertrand, Vestegaard, Glover and Aribo in terms of successes. It's been said before but I'm absolutely certain that it's because Rudkin is so ill-informed and poorly regarded in football that he just relies on Glover's contacts who was previously there. Our talent pool is basically Wasserman and Southampton. 1
winteriscoming Posted 1 June Posted 1 June I could see us going for Ruben Selles. Ticks the boxes with these clowns. Previously at Southampton and has experience in league 1.
MPH Posted 1 June Posted 1 June We are not going to get the ‘ finished article’ manager in league 1. It’s either going to be a relatively unknown or someone with a damaged reputation and a point to prove. i can actually see it being Martin. Hopefully just on just a 2 year deal so that we can get the manager we need when on the ascendancy..

At this point I might be one of them, simply cannot be bothered anymore, I haven't been to games regularly for a long time, can't see it changing any time soon. I'm a 2 hour one way trip. It's an interesting tactical approach, I get the strategy, but I watch this sport to be entertained. I watch F1 because it entertains me, I don't watch Tennis because it doesn't. For far too long I've planned my weekends around watching a Football club that doesn't entertain me, not sure I can be bothered wasting my time on it much longer if we bring in RM. I've followed F1 since the 90s growing up as a "side sport" but over the last 5-6 years, it's taken a far bigger portion of my attention than it has in previous years. Happy for those that want to watch it, but I'm not tribal enough about the club to waste my weekends watching football I despise. Love this club to death, but I respect my time more. The club right now feels a little bit like that conspiracy theorist relative that you love because they are family but avoid them because of their nonsense. Edited 1 June by cityfanlee23

That said we were horrendous defensively last season and had he been in charge I don't think we'd have conceded more goals. The upside to his style of play is his teams score a similar amount of goals than they concede. Both Hull and Wrexham conceded a similar amount of goals this season as ourselves, but scored as many as they conceded. One made the playoffs and will now play PL football, the other missed out on the playoffs by 2 points. Yes, we were seriously crap at the back last season, but arguably our failing wasn't defending, rather our inability to score goals. To be fair, and playing devils advocate, you can also see where a club has scored a lot less like Millwall and finished in a strong position because of their defensive record. We were similar in our title season with all those 1-0’s and the defence seeing us through those fixtures. If you can’t get both right, you have to get one, I’m not sure it matter which. Our probably was both ends, well across the pitch in true. Personally I felt the defence cost us massively with the points we through away.
Happy Fox Posted 1 June Posted 1 June John Mousinho would be the standout name if we could prise him from Portsmouth but he will go to a club on the up and certainly not us.
