Given it's been a long time since he left, for me the blame lies with Top and Rudkin more so now. It's pathetic they've overseen the demise and collapse of our once great football club. More so than any manager or player. They lost their way years ago and yet are still hanging around like a bad smell. Neither of them have any humility to just walk away. They're too stubborn and the trajectory continues downwards with them.

⚰️ A Satirical Requiem for Leicester City Football Club

(As performed by a club that has absolutely no idea how it got here, and even less idea how to get out.)

We gather here today to mourn the passing of Leicester City Football Club, taken from us far too soon by a series of unfortunate events, poor decisions, and the occasional defender who appeared to be allergic to marking.

The club’s final years were marked by:

• Transfer windows that resembled a car boot sale at 3pm — everything overpriced, nothing useful, and someone walking off with your best player for a fiver.

• Tactical plans that changed more often than the King Power’s pie supplier.

• Managers who arrived full of hope and left looking like they’d aged in dog years.

• Defending that was so experimental it should have come with a government warning.

Leicester is survived by:

• Fans who still insist “we’re a sleeping giant” while nervously checking the League One table.

• A stadium that once hosted Champions League football and now hosts existential dread.

• A recruitment department that swears it will “learn lessons”, despite clear evidence to the contrary.

Cause of death:

• A tragic cocktail of hubris, chaos, and the Premier League’s annual tradition of kicking the little guy in the shins.

• A midfield that dissolved under mild pressure.

• And, of course, the classic Leicester ailment: “We’ll sort it out next season.” Spoiler: they did not.

The funeral procession will begin at Filbert Way, followed by a wake at the nearest pub, where supporters will raise a glass and say things like:

• “Remember when we won the league?”

• “Remember when we were good?”

• “Remember when we had a functioning defence?”

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ‘Please, Not Another Rebuild’ Fund, or directly to the nearest centre for traumatised football fans.

May the Foxes rest in peace — or at least rest in mid‑table, which would be a start.

Regardless of whether we go out of business, I can never say with a straight face that we are a serious club ever again.
 

Plenty of big clubs have gone down to League One and retained their pride, traditions and identity. They’ve continued to maintain that their club is a big, proud club massively underachieving. Sheff Wednesday, Leeds, Southampton, Norwich, etc. Forest even. Forest constantly overrate themselves FFS. I’d do anything to have arrogant fans like Forest rather than cucks. Being a proud club is about adamantly talking yourselves up. None of those clubs get huge crowds compared to us, none of them consistently compete in the top flight, none of them win trophies. But they don’t accept anyone telling them they aren’t massive.

 

It’s more than just what division we’re in, it’s the attitude of us as a club. We haven’t got one. We’re dead, we can never be proud of our club again because everyone involved in it from players to managers to owners to fans said we’re a small club. And nobody corrected them.

Not sure I agree with this. Personally think the club thought they were a big club, but had people managing it that were way out of their depth, and belong at a small club.

Football is supposed to be escapism, with the world as frightening as it has been since WW2 right now, it’s escapism we need, but I just haven’t got  that from Leicester or football in general since we won the FA Cup really.

 

Today, I stated it and read a book, then checked the score a couple of times. I felt nothing when I saw we’d lost and Portsmouth and Oxford won. I just shrugged and went back to reading my book.

 

It’s not even frustration anymore, it’s just apathy. Football and Leicester City Football Club have just ceased to mean anything to me anymore, they ceased to give me that escapism I used to get where for 2 hours on a Saturday, win or lose, all the problems in the world drifted away and all my focus was just on the game. 
 

To me that’s even worse than the frustration and sadness I remember feeling when we were relegated to League One 20 years ago. That relegation hurt. This relegation just makes me shrug. 
 

The club has made me just not care anymore about something I’d forged friendships over and used to talk constantly with my dad and brother about. My dad and brother recently said the same as well, we barely talk about City anymore, we’ve all stopped caring.

I suppose we can look forward - if that's the right phrase - to a documentary chronicling    the spectacular rise and astonishing fall of Leicester City Football Club.

 

Some years down the line, I also expect there will be snippets in various ex players and managers biographies, detailing the s4itshow we've all been witnessing these last 4 years or so.

So given where we are, the state of the clubs finances including the huge debt and how leveraged we are, the state of the world thanks to the Orange Bafoon in Washington, the likelihood that we are down, the state of King Power and the issues they have had/are going to have, the absolute turnips in charge of the club on a sporting and corporate level, it’s looking very very grim.

 

The Brutal Truth

 

There is a lot of confusion about what happens to the club financially if we suffer back-to-back relegations. Here is the reality of our situation, stripped of all the accounting jargon:

 

1. We owe more than we own.

Yes, we have a £130m training ground and a £40m+ stadium. But our total debt is estimated to be over £200 million. If you subtract what we owe from what we own, the club is essentially in negative equity.

 

2. We owe banks, not King Power.

Top isn't the one demanding this money. King Power actually wiped out the massive loans we owed them by turning them into shares. Our current debt problem is because we’ve had to take out massive, high-interest loans from real banks (like Macquarie) just to survive the Championship. Banks don't forgive debt; they demand cash.

 

3. League One revenue is basically zero.

In the Premier League, we made £100m+ from TV. In the Championship, it's a fraction of that. In League One, total TV and league money drops to under £2 million. We absolutely cannot pay a £200m+ bank debt and a massive wage bill on £2m a year.

 

4. King Power can't really afford to save us anymore.

Because of the pandemic, changes in tourism, current world situation, King Power’s own duty-free business in Thailand has taken a massive hit. The days of Top writing £100 million blank cheques to bail out the club's mistakes are over.

 

What is one likely path?

If we go down, administration is actually quite unlikely because it would destroy the club's assets and King Power's legacy (plus it brings a massive points deduction). Instead, another option is:

 

• The Summer Fire Sale: The club will sell absolutely anyone with a heartbeat and a transfer value for pennies just to slash the wage bill and keep the banks off our backs.

 

• The £1 Sale: King Power will likely have to accept they’ve lost their infrastructure investment. They will quietly sell the club for a nominal fee (like £1) to new owners (likely an American investment group). The new owners get the stadium and Seagrave for "free," but they have to take on the massive £200m debt and the long-term rebuild.

 

 

TLDR: If we drop to League One, expect a total squad fire sale followed by King Power selling the club for £1 to whoever is willing to take on the debt.
 

The 2016 era is officially over.

 

I’m staggered that the happy clapper idiots still think that it is ok/will be ok because we will spend millions in a league one.

There’s an element of that in the spending, yes. But the managers were not interested in ambition or standards, they constantly talked the club down. As soon as we started to underachieve, Top was telling us to be grateful. We never appointed serious managers with potential, just losers on the cheap. The players weren’t committed or good enough, and none of these people were hounded out by the fans. The fans were complicit.

 

I’m not talking about relegation or financial collapse. The death of the club, for me, is in years of self-hatred and acceptance of disrespect. I can never say we’re a big club anymore because our own fans loved KPFC so much and LCFC so little.

Said it in the KP Out Thread, but if anyone turned up to the phoenix club and so much as hinted that they shared sympathy with KP, LCFC or anyone else involved in the death of our club... well I'd personally not be holding my tongue and I'd ensure they had an uncomfortable time. At this point i'd rather watch park football with 50 people who can see the wood for the trees than rub shoulders with anyone of that sort. They're as much part of the poison killing LCFC as anyone else.
