Are there positives to this situation? There must be but I’m struggling to think of any expect the obvious ones like certain contracts coming to an end.

Though I must say I’m looking forward getting stuck into the Football Manager version where we’re in League One and I can rebuild the club 🤣

The positives are that we are going to be forced to use the young talent we have and are producing.

The deadwood that have absolutely stunk the club out in recent years are going to want to move on because they think they’re better than the level that we are going to be playing out.

The players on ridiculous amounts of money that are out of contract (bar Ricardo) that will be leaving at the end of the season.

The disdain that those who can see what’s happened, and what’s going to happen to this club, have for this bunch of charlatans that are running us into the ground.

Hopefully KPs delusions of grandeur that we can maintain a top 6 position in the PL by splashing out top 6 wages on a mid-table income will be forever gone and that reality smacks them hard across their faces.

KPFC fans were demonstrably humiliated.

Not really as they will just say ''we are where we are'' and continue to shag KP. You know that will happen!

Our parachute payment will go further next year without the silly salaries we are currently paying.

If we still get it that is?

Already cashed into the loan bank, like a gambling addict.

The only positive I can think of is its the only timeline that gives us a chance at actually changing either the ownership or removal of Rudkin.  There was no way anything was changing if we stayed up.

I wont hold my breath. But I certainly think its increased the chances of real change.

One positive is that the current journey which delivered so much began with a relegation to league 1.

and that’s a straw clutch !

This is only slightly positive thing I keep saying to myself. Do you think the chances of history repeating itself exactly for the next eight or nine years are more or less than 5000 to 1?

I'm looking forward to a time when we don't have several new threads which are the same as other threads, just with a slightly different wording in the title.

Being in receipt of one more year of parachute payments should give us an advantage over every other club in the division. All we'll need to do is make a few shrewd signings and.....ah. Alright, fair enough, no positives.

The only positive i can see is that certain players will be forced to move on and it might also force the clubs hand to give some of the youth players more opportunities.

I can imagine the financial implications will be horrific, but if we had have survived, I could see us going into next season with the same dead wood.

If you've got to remove a dying tree by its roots, then I think thats what this relegation will do.

also, when I am older, and things go shit again, i'll be able to say "we were in league one once" and just use that as an excuse for any future failings at the club.

But that should have also been the case this year. You'd think it will be a certainty this year but I worry that Top will still have his head in the clouds and not understand the gravity of the situation. Would surprise me to see many of the bigger names still here

As much as I'm about 90% Top out at the moment, in fairness, until we see how good McCarron is and how what exactly his full remit is, it's a little hard to say.

It's possible Rudkin really has been promoted completely out of the way and that JM is going to be given the freedom to rebuild. It's also possible he could be very good at his job, we just don't know yet.

If both of those things are true then Top has largely done what we wanted him to. I've said before that it isn't personal for me, I don't "hate" him and I don't give a shit if he keeps owning our club as long as he learns from his **** ups and does it properly.

Now personally I think if he had Davies and Rudkin would be long gone, BC Game wouldn't still be out sponsor and Whelan would have stayed instead of JR. But we'll see.

The other glimmer of hope is the same thing it is every season at the moment and that's a bunch more contracts are about to expire and our wage bill is going to drop significantly again at the end of the year. Unfortunately, so is our revenue but I'm guessing the drop from Championship to League One isn't as severe as the drop from the Prem. I'm guessing our wages to revenue ratio will improve even if we do lose income getting relegated.

So that's it, TLDR: we now have (supposedly) a proper sporting director and a reduced wage bill to perhaps begin rebuilding.

But I'm 100% clutching at straws here and I should make it clear I'm not enthusiastic about the near future.

One good thing about McCarron if he does end up staying on next season, despite the Belgian side being in the city group they spent little to no money and most of his signings were free transfers. So he's at least used to that level of deals!

The worry for me is that we just approach this the same we did the Maresca season.

If we still have some quality, L1 teams will park the bus and Enzo (Pep) ball will probably work in our favour. If we do well and get promoted this papers over cracks again.

I want to see a big shift in a approach / style etc

We still have too many under contract this year that we can't get rid of.

Tbh even next year Faes, Vestergaard, BDCR and Choudhary don't expire til 2027 and they'll quite possibly be the four highest paid players in League One.

You could probably have between 7 and maybe even 10 cracking young EFL players with loads of upwards mobility and resell value for what we pay that lot in wages.

We're definitely not completely out of the woods.

Especially with Kristiansen, Okoli and Skipp all here for another two to three years and all of them being paid too much to be able to sell them easily.
