Funny thing is, it was common knowledge he was part of a team caught for this in Germany. It’s nothing new. He was assistant at koln and they were caught at that time, so either he was doing it then or he learnt it there.

Also some more conspiracy theory stuff but was analyst when Germany won the World Cup, who were accused of spying vs France. And more speculative but an at Barnsley when there manager went on a crazy unbeaten run. The manager( v. Ismael) never tried to work with him again and never had any form again either… makes you wonder if there may have been something going on again.

in honesty, this is one of those things that you could easily have got away with for donkeys but you’re always just one bad move away from getting caught. But most clubs would have just assumed a fan was trying to watch them and would ignore anyone they’d spot.

football is unpredictable and it definitely isn’t a definitive key to success, but if a club works on hand signals for certain set pieces it gives a huge advantage at stopping them. And anyone with decent tactical knowledge can unlock a defence if you know the shape they are planning to use. It’s a fascinating situation and I have to think with his pr he won’t work for a club in England again

but if any club would do it, it would be us

I really hate questions like this. Why would someone on the crusp of premier league football drop down to the first division to a team with limited funds and in need of selling their best players?

slightly different scenerio… Pearson was only on a temporary contract there  and Southampton narrowly avoided relegation themselves that year…

Any reason why Leeds didn’t get this kind of heat?

There wasn’t a rule against it when Bielsa did it. After the original ‘Spy-Gate’ the EFL explicitly banned dying on opposition training sessions.

Because he will be persona non-grata after this. He’s effectively cost his current employers a chance at £200M!

Bit harsh..

He’s a very young manager and could get a job in a top division in Europe. He’d probably want to escape the country himself anyway. I’d bet he will resign rather thank get sacked

But he won’t be managing Leicester and I’m surprised you actually think there’s a chance he would.

Because he's getting sacked and is damaged goods. It's an opportunity to actually get somebody who might be a bit 'above' what we could realistically attract in normal circumstances.

The bit that puts me off, more than any moral thing is how much of this spying, which he clearly has a track record and reputation for, is actually his edge and now that he'll have to reign it in, is he actually going to be any good?

He has a history of cheating, just like us, and comes from Southampton. Top and Rudkin are already getting the contract ready.

If we take him we should send him on a spying course. The whole idea of spying is that you shouldn't get caught spying.

Would you drop your principles and take Tonda (assuming he doesn’t get a Football ban)?

He is 100% going to get a ban for a year or more.

No. Likely to receive a ban. Will court controversy at a time we don't need it.

Also, would he be as good at his job if it wasn't for the spying?

Hes a nothing manager. He was arrogant and uninterested in anyone or anything but his and his mates own wellbeing and career trajectory at Barnsley. Reflected in the fact hes now pressured a younger member of staff to do his bidding. He's not the person you want involved in your club at any level.

As for his coaching ability, his stint at Southampton is very much the exception to what hes shown hes capable of previously. Steer well clear of the bloke.

same reason we didn't get a points deduction for going into administration in 2002. Wasn't against any rules then

There wasn't the rules in place but it's right to point out the difference in how this is being perceived as a result of the rules.

I've not heard anyone bring up Leeds' spying since yet you can guarantee this will haunt Southampton for years.

It seemed to be more of a laugh when Leeds did it and Bielsa got his graphs out at that press conference. He had that eccentric madness Ranieri had and it almost made it into a joke.

no. It isn’t an opportunity. There is no opportunity. Stop kidding yourselves.

Rule change because of Leeds. Just like the administration rule change after us.

Not a great idea. He's probably the reason sotton have done this. Every game we would be under the microscope.

We have enough issues without that added pressure
