Today wasn’t pretty at all. The test for me is how much he reacts to players being garbage. If he throws BDCR and Mavididi into the river now rather than waiting for ten matches then at least that’s something. 
 

I’ve got used to the fact that most managers play abhorrent anti football these days anyway. It did seem like there was more running around today, so that’s a start. 
 

Im sure when we lose 3-0 next Saturday I’ll be more firmly against him but I’m not jumping onto that just yet. Bloke has a nightmare job on his hands.

Cup games are always though, never mind first and second round games. I lose count of the amount of early season cup games we’ve been poor in but actually had a good season otherwise.

 

I still think we’ll have a good season but a new manager, with brand new ideas, isn’t going to change this team in a month or however long Martin has been here. This is a team that’s suffered two consecutive relegations.

I don't think its a problem we didnt blow Northampton today. I think some of the new signings are going to improve us (Watson for sure) and the biggest problem is the deadwood, striker, and CB's, all that seem to be works in progress. Academy graduates are only going to improve, and already look good.

 

Will whinge if it still looks like this after 10 games though.

I'm not sure this style of play will suit us vs teams that are going to sit deep, and frustrate, we need to have more in our bag than, left to right back to keeper left to right be patient.. playing like that then having our inevitable brain fart at the back when the opposition pressure us...is going to cost us in my opinion.

RM can't stand Thomas, that much is clear. He was shouting back at the bench that he had "had enough" of Thomas' lack of aggression after about ten minutes  

 

Despite his post-match comments, he was furious for much of the game at how slowly we were playing. 

 

Not sure that's due to a lack of desire on the part of the players to play that way, but more a lack of ability to do so. 

 

Players such as Jakub, Okoli, Souttar and Thomas simply aren't up to playing how he wants, on the ball - or in Thomas' case, at all.

We could have gone with Dave Challinor, with an incredible lower league record. What we went with, was B-TEC Pep wannabe, with zero understanding of adaptation. I'm glad RM has happened though, hopefully the senior management, stop thinking they are Man City, and actually run a League One team when it fails. We needed a reset this summer, and the inevitable downfall is plain for us to see. I just wonder how quickly King Power want to take us into Administration. Unfortunately for us, it's a race to the bottom, not up.

I don't understand managers who are obsessive about playing in a certain style. Football is about matching up against the opposition, nullifying their tactics and asserting your strengths on them. There are many ways to win a game and the best managers adapt their tactics and team selection to play against a wide variety of opponents. There's nothing wrong with sitting back and playing on the break against superior opponents or going all out to get in front of weaker ones and then coasting the later stages of a match. Hopefully RM will become more pragmatic and make the best of the players that we have or we may be back to manager roulette by Christmas.

Challinor was the right fit,with a wealth of knowledge of lower leagues and adaptation necessary to achieve the results for promotion.He plays possession football with purpose and intensity and on the front foot.

I still can't really get over the appointment of Martin Unbelievable lazy decision.Another Rogers but worse,and he set the club onto this trajectory putting us back 5 years, with Rudkin and Top equally culpable.

Still hope im wrong and Martin turns out ok.-can't see it though.

How do you nullify a low bloke?

 

It seems this season we will face much of the same therefore we will have the lions share of the ball it’s what they do with that ball that counts and that’s not so much on RM who was going mental on the line about how slow things were, the players will need to get slicker and hopefully will do.

We didn’t have many chances to counter attack yesterday & we’ve proved we can’t be the low block team to counter in a tradition sense because we can’t defend, us & invite pressure is a recipe for disaster.

 

As for changing tactics he has said he’s buying players that will enable him to do that but if the league goes as yesterday the players need to get to grips with the speed of passes and movement around the edge of the box not so much as RM do something.

For me what was worrying was we scored early, which in theory should relate to the opponents reverting to plan B, but after the goal we created despite huge amount of  possession with no end product.  Nevertheless, it will take time for this team to ‘click’,  so patience will be required.  Let’s see where we are after 10 games.

I'm not sure if you're aware, but we had around 80% possession, scored a goal and won yesterday? Sure, we were crap and it was far too slow and dull, but I'm sure he's aware of this.

Didn’t watch the game so only off highlights. We score early and even though a cup game Northampton had everyone behind the ball still. Burns and Watson in brief clips looked direct when they came on, alves too, some good through balls by Cullen, Mavididi got in behind but for great tackle. It looked different to enzo team in that vestergaard wasn’t stood still on it and the ball was kept moving. 
 

Things to make it better and move it quicker are a central defender confident to break the first line into midfield, and a deep midfielder(maybe braybrooke when chaplain is fit) to receive that and break the next line. A striker that can be between the posts, Cullen put in a great ball that won the corner for our goal, only player in the box was alves from right wing at the back post. 
 

I’m pleased with bought in 4 attacking players so far. Hopefully the strikers next and things click a little more. Certainly wasn’t bored by the highlights. At 1-0 and Northampton sitting behind ball it looked a bit pre season friendly ish! 
 

tempo and atmosphere at Notts county will be so different, the players will be up for it as I think that’s the minimum Martin will get is they will run and try! The proper stuff is next week now and hopefully a new signing or two involved.

To be fair, it would be a quick win for him with the fans if he is the manager to finally bin off Luke Thomas.

 

Let's hope McFarlane is half decent.
