DerbyshireFox Posted 15 July Posted 15 July Wrexham also spending £7m on a centre back from Fiorentina 2
Sly Posted 15 July Posted 15 July The fact we are potentially losing players to Wrexham. If someone had said that at the end of 15/16 ….. you’d think they were crazy.
JimJams Posted 16 July Posted 16 July I'm ok with the last few we lost to them though to be honest. 1

Merchant_Banker Posted 17 July Posted 17 July I thought they normally have 2 weeks off. Maybe he is keen to get back to the club. 3

fleckneymike Posted 18 July Posted 18 July He’s not value for money at this level. Lincoln won the league with a wage cap of 3k. Souttar will be on about 10x that. No matter his ability you can’t justify that expenditure as it’s just not needed. The average league one club loses 100k a week. We are going to be so far beyond that it’s frightening 3

I like the bloke, but he will be head and shoulders above any other defender in the league and deserves to be at a higher level than us. If we were in the championship, we could keep him but @fleckneymike is correct, wages will be the issue not the player with this one, as I would love to keep him, but financially it just doesn't make sense, sadly. I'd rather move Faes and Okoli on and keep Souttar but that probably won't happen. In an ideal scenario we loan him out and have all his wages covered and comes back when we've been promoted.

They all have to go. We don’t need any of them. This level is so bad that we can get players on a fraction of the wage that will still be head and shoulders above everyone else. 1
Haywood_6 Posted 18 July Posted 18 July If we have to keep one of our senior centre backs then it needs to be Souttar for me. He was excellent last few games of last season. Hopefully he's in the first team plans and we're looking for buyers for Faes and Okoli. Nelson is going to be an interesting one, feels like he wants a fresh start if he's not going to sign a new deal. Can see him going

We need a total rebuild, no senior player is not for sale. At the end of the season he will have 1 year left on his contract, it will be a case of signing a new one or b sold. He's just come back from a World Cup were he play well, he probably going to be at his most selling now and we can get a decent price. End of the season his price will be a lot less. Sell and bring in some who a good young CB and grow and develop them. Edited 18 July by coolhandfox 3
ThorpeAstleyFox Posted 18 July Posted 18 July The issue with selling our best players is that the money will be used to service our debts NOT to reinvest in the playing squad. I'm not saying that I wouldn't sell Soutter (I would), but the fans who are expecting us to reinvest this money are deluded. We will be shopping in the free transfer and loans market this Summer. 2
jv1 Posted 18 July Posted 18 July Got to try and keep him - our best cb by a country mile - get Okoli and faes gone - this guy is everything you need in league one 2

I would argue Souttar wasn't with us last season so wasn't part of the toxic culture we had. Yes this level is crap but we still need enough quality to get out of this league. We've finally started to shift high earners and toxic players with is a great start (for once). Okoli, Faes n Choudhury next to go imo and start Souttar n Nelson together for the first game.

If we stand firm and refuse to let him leave on the cheap is he really prepared to run down his contract!? Given his injury record one serious injury could leave him out of contract and unable to play and without any guaranteed football income or financial security. 1
Chief Keef Posted 18 July Posted 18 July If Nelson/Okoli/Faes are also set to leave then centre back becomes the biggest priority for recruitment. Wilson-Brown and Gray will be involved it seems but we will need 2/3 players in the position who are top end of the league in terms of quality.
AyewSerious Posted 18 July Posted 18 July He said this over a month ago, anyone know if he knows anything? PSR bit sounds a bit muddled up

They can all be replaced quite easily with lower cost options. No one in that current squad would play in the prem (aside from Abdul) and very few would get in a promotion chasing championship side. Therefore why keep them and keep paying them wages beyond their ability or use? Abdul aside, who, hand on heart would you sign? Who would you think would warrant above 10k a week? 2
AKCJ Posted 18 July Posted 18 July I like Souttar and he would be our best CB but he's 27 which means he's probably at prime selling age. Keep him and his value goes down. Plus selling him means we're more likely to keep Nelson and give Gray game time to develop. Sell him and Faes, keep Nelson, Gray, Wilson-Brown and Okoli. Should be more than enough and all retain value.

So if this translates correctly, basically, if he's on the plane come Monday, he's happy to stay.... but as we know, everyone's for sale. Fingers crossed. If he's not on the plane, we know he wants out for sure.
