If the approval process has taken, let’s say a month? It’s a bit worrying what he was intending to do at Derby that would take 6-8 weeks. 
 

Sounds like he had plans on a scale of signing an entirely new team/management structure which would likely be absolute carnage for a championship side if done all at once. 
 

Funnily enough Eustace was on the receiving end of something similar at Birmingham… the yanks learned their lesson there but had to spend a year in league one first!

Much as I'm enjoying Derby's misery, I'm always amazed that they've had four local businessmen over the years to dig them out and pump millions in. 

 

After Bob Maxwell (who himself shovelled loads of mirror pensioners money in) they had Lionel Pickering then Peter Gatsby (twice) Mel Morris and now David Clowes. 

 

Remarkable really that they've found four local men in 35 years to pump hundreds of millions in.

Per capita they’re a very well supported team, Derby’s catchment is tight and hemmed in for an already small-ish city. Probably about 500k all in and their attendances have been strong for decades. Our catchment is probably twice the size but that’s not really been reflected in historic attendances

Their success in the 70's helped. We missed the boat by failing to win the trophies in the 60's. The club has suffered from the small time mentality ever since.

It helped them locally but not nationally.

 

The 1970s public recall the FA Cup finals more than league title winners; Sunderland v Leeds, Chelsea v Leeds, man u, Liverpool, Ipswich, Southampton, West Ham, arsenal...and in the second half of the 70s, the league cup (as it was ITV's big love football event). Villa, Man City  Forest.... so if we'd won in 1969, it would've transformed us. 

 

Derby's two title wins were barely seen on TV.....whereas, in contrast, Coventry's 1987 cup win was a huge story at the time
