But, this is Russell Martin just wanting to get our culture and leadership group right, which let’s be honest, has been badly needed over the past few years. 
 

Going into the season with Choudhury and BDCR as our two most senior pros, that would have been incredibly idiotic and a disaster. 
 

Whether you favour Burns or not, we needed two wingers for each side, we’ve got the exciting youngster in Watson, we’ve got the experienced pro in Burns. 
 

Plus Burns and Chaplin have linked up in the past, so you can see the logic behind it in that regard.

I'm all for experience when it makes sense, but given he's known for his speed, has had an ACL and is approaching 32 it's fair to say his best years may be behind him. Given that it's all about the terms of the deal now. 1yr loan we'd be happy... signing for a fee (after he was a free agent) on a 2+yr deal looks bonkers.

I think the passage of time for any of this to happen runs to next summer where we'll need said tens of millions in player sales to keep ticking over and even ignoring that, my vision for this club has always been to do things differently and priority 1 is team is awash with home grown players produced in our academy. Don't want to hear excuses about you can't do it blah blah blah. 

 

Watching all of the pre-season my opinion is only Alves, Braybrooke, Page, Joseph, Aluko and maybe Evans were going to play decent minutes for the first team this season 

 

If we get that and the rest get loans I'm pretty happy.

All jokes aside, this is another transfer that will depend on the financial structure of the deal. 

 

If it's cheap and we aren't tied to him for years, it's alright. He's OK at this level, he works hard and occasionally scores bangers. 

 

I'd take Wes Burns over ten BDCRs and Ayews.

He’s on what £20kpw, but only got a 1 year  contract at Ipswich. I imagine we have offered him something like a 3 year deal (or 2+1) on £10kpw with a 50% pay rise on promotion?!

I don't see him going out on loan at all. He'll get plenty of minutes for us this season, and rightly so.

If Burns, Chaplin and McCarthy can help improve the culture and support the development of players like Braybrooke and others, then I'm all for it.

 

According to Transfermarkt, the average age of our squad is 25.6, and that's without adding Evan and Joseph. That puts us among the 10 youngest squads in League One, so it's not as if we're building an ageing team adding Burns

Based on the fact that he was still banging the goals in at Premier League level when I took Fleetwood Town all the way from Division 2 on FIFA Career Mode then it’s a yes from me.

Then what? Braybrooke and Choudhury maybe? Both Braybrooke and Page seems unlikely regardless of what the fans would pick and we seem to be thinking about letting Skipp go? Don't see much other choice?

And then presumably McCarthy?

I'm happy with;

 

Bristic/Hutchinson

Mavididi/Watson/Evans Chaplin/Cullen/DCR Burns/Alves. 

 

We are short up top, but I'd hope the club have done their full diligence on Bristic and trust him to be the main guy. Mavididi and DCR need to be sold. Mavididi especially - I can't see being a positive influence to the younger players.
