I can’t get Martin’s time with Rangers out my head. Let’s face it they were shit… against similar opposition. I need convincing, so I was against his appointment and I still am. Let’s hope I’m proving wrong and he has learnt a lot and turns us into a force

812 passes and no creativity suggests he hasn’t learnt a lot.

I can't be arsed listening to any whingers.

Braybrooke, Alves, Joseph and Watson were all very impressive.

We need to give them time to iron out mistakes and await the signing of a striker.

I'm enthused that the youngsters were as good as they were. Like new signings.

Come on now, that was a dreadful performance that would have resulted in a defeat against any half decent side. We are very fortunate that Northampton are an incredibly poor side. Im all for the youngsters but I fear they will all be ruined playing Martins horrendous football. No urgency and very little positive play in the final 3rd. Yes we need a striker and yes we need to bin Reid and Mavididi, but that really was a terrible performance.

We weren't great though. No-one can say we'll steamroller sides and go straight back up based on that, but I suppose I didn't expect us to.

We weren't, but it was a glorified pre-season friendly and the first semi competitive game we've played. It's glaringly obvious where the weak links in the squad are if we're to play this way and we'll need to solve that if we're to be successful.

Get Caleb up front. TOP GOALSCORER!!!

I mean, I suppose he's better than anything we've got but I think he's busy running Jeremy's farm

The system needs an outlet otherwise it’s just pointless passing.

We haven’t got any strikers. Judge RM when we get a striker or two in.

If we fail to do that then the anger is better directed at those upstairs as RM will be powerless

I feel people are free to judge today, and they know Martin with his previous teams… honestly did he show he learnt and was willing to adapt? Today was a typical Martin performance, we looked lost at times, nothing upfront and dodgy at the back. One game sure, and maybe we get going… but right now, I didn’t see anything different from a standard Martin team

Fair point. I would say though, that a striker would need service. We barely got near their net all match and were seemingly happy to pass it around the back and middle of the park. A decent striker would hopefully link play a bit but im still concerned that Martin's style of play does not suit our players or our situation.

Sorry but not seeing that. Braybrooke was good in pre-season, but he gave the ball away time and time again today, kept turning back and took way too many touches. The same could be said for every player who took part today.

The only player who played well was Skipp, and only because he was never under any real pressure so he had all the time in the world to turn and pick his pass. Watson I will give you was good when he came on, but we didn't see enough of him to really comment. But no one on that pitch was impressive, even for the low standards we set for ourselves these days.

If a team is going to play possession football, then the speed at which the ball is moved is the key to it working. It doesn't need to be fast all the time, but when you make your move, it's got to be a series of first time passes that are fast and accurate to cut the opposition apart. Every player on our team took at minimum 3 touches every time they received the ball and it meant that every move we made was over before it ever began. Given we had drinks breaks, it's disappointing that the manager didn't also see this and tell them to speed it up. If we tried to play the ball quickly but lost it because of misplaced passes, that would have been better at this stage of the season than taking too many passes for me. What I saw today was concerning...

I thought Aluko did well when he came on. It's a shame that two of our best young players play in the same position.

Dynamite going forward, but I think JJ's picked because he's better defensively. Against a low block where we need more creativity, it may be better to play Aluko.

People forgetting how poor we where under Enzo for the first few weeks.

Takes time people.

It wasn't good under him early doors but at least we were creating chances.

My expectations of this team aren't as high as most but **** me I thought we'd create a bit more than that. This is a Northampton side that have just fallen to pieces in the very league we're in. If that is our level I don't think we'll be going up. Heavily contingent on the new signings (and we need a few more) being gamechangers and Martin being ruthless enough to get rid of the wasters.

That performance was reminiscent of so much wrong with us in recent years. Even if we'd lost today and actually really managed to create a few chances (take a look at some of the other teams of a similar levels stats today) where you could say we'd been unlucky I think I'd feel better than that.

Wasn't hugely confident beforehand. I admittedly hadn't managed to watch a single friendly of ours but there is too much water under the bridge for me to overlook this type of performance. If I'm Notts County I'm licking my lips at that today.

The positives of course are Braybrooke and Joseph. I've definitely overlooked Joseph a bit thinking Aluko would have it locked down. We look good at right back.

Did Alves show anything to warrant the constant clamour for him to be first choice?

One of the better attackers, only one of the starter who could beat a man.

No, But he was played on the wing which seemed strange when we had 2 new Wingers in the squad. He's better as an 8. and I'm sure we'll see him there soon.

Not great but also not sure it told us much we didn't already know - youngsters on the whole looked quite good, same old wasters looked quite shit, playing out of defence with the Stolarczyk/Okoli/Souttar/Skipp diamond of doom is probably not a good idea, really need a striker.

He’s not played 8 whole pre season lol

Well, no, not if you're talking about people who slated Cooper for not giving him a chance! But I thought he showed a bit of promise here and there.

A couple of positives :

- Watson looked very bright when we came on and it was good to see a winger running at their full back!

- Joseph had another solid game at RB- hard to believe he’s only 19!

It wasn’t great but we’re through

Suggest you go back and look at the xg for the first 5 or 6 games, created very little, against Cov, Cardiff and Hull at home, same Huddersfield and Rotherham away.

Think its to early to panic.
