Exactly why Martin is not the answer at all.

BDR up front is because he isn't a striker and, therefore, will be more adept at keeping hold of the ball instead of taking chances  - the exact thing Martin wants from his teams has been 80+ % possession.

It comes at the expense of everything else.

This guy has a 38% career win rate and that's with a promotion season.

Look I don't really want to be seen defending Russell Martin but this is obviously not him turning down the option to sign another striker. This is a case of resource management.

He (rightly) wants to prioritise centre back and centre mid because we have two key players leaving with no other back up.

Leicester fans love to whinge about a lack of strikers but Bristric, Chaplin, Cullen and Reid is more than enough for a League 1 club, especially when you factor that there's still two and a half weeks of the transfer window to go and we can go again in January if needed.

Assuming we're selling Souttar and Page as heavily rumoured... we're one injury to Okoli from playing young Kevon Gray, one injury to Skipp from playing Hamza Choudhury and one injury to Bristric from playing Cullen or Chaplin up front. To me that says we don't need a striker as much as other positions.

My hope in Martin was extremely minimal but it’s even less so if he believes BDR is an option as a striker.
I’m not convinced he’s even a professional footballer let alone a striker.

Doubt it's really his choice if budgets are as thin as we all think/know they are to be fair.

We lack pace in this team. It will affect our ability to press and the ball played in behind to for the striker to run on to (even though 70% of the time teams will sit in).

Unless im mistaken and Bristric is fast. Either way, we know BDCR and Cullent aren't.

Everyone is misreading this thanks to a misplaced comma.

RM actually says, "He's an exciting young forward and one I'm looking forward to working with him. Hell." At which point he does a double facepalm.

I'm not against Cullen being the second CF option personally, considering he played there earlier in his career and - as I pointed out with Bristric - he only has to outperform two generational bozos in Ayew and Daka in order to be considered an upgrade. At the very least he has a clean slate and is one we should judge after a few games under his belt, rather than write off as wrong for the position from the outset.

BDCR being considered as a genuine option ahead of a youth product is appalling though, a timely reminder that despite a lot of good work over the summer we still haven't cleared out the rot at the heart of LCFC. I wouldn't have even been that bothered if he was, say, 3rd choice at #10 behind Cullen and Chaplin where he's played before, but him leading the line due to a sheer lack of foresight to plan for our outgoings is just embarrassing.

Hi record as striker or second striker is abysmal, even the one good season nearly 10 years go he got his goals from an attacking midfield position

BDCR, third choice, Otchere has gone to Cheltenham and has the no.9 shirt so arguably first choice. Far more game time, far more development

Russel is like one of those chaps who you think is sound, good hair, seems genuine, passionate, down to earth level headed kind of guy, but then he throws out an absolute stinker that pretty much erases all of those qualities.

Blokes a space cadet.

that's a total of one actual striker, who's not proven outside of the Slovenian leagues, in what way is that enough? Cullen isn't a striker and has never been any good in that position, Chaplin has one good season 4 years ago, Reid is just generally ineffectual. One injury to Bristic, or even him just not settling into English football, and any realistic person can't see where the goals are coming from

Or its not his call and he's working with what he's got rather than throwing his toys out of the pram. We have no idea how the 'real' conversations are going on around this and if Russell has to be pragmatic about a number of things.

If i was our manager, i would be sh1tting myself about the CB position, where is possible we will have no one in a few weeks. The choice for the weekend is INSANELY horrible:

  • Play the belgian twat, and suffer the fans fallout from that. When Wout makes his inevitable mistake, it gets toxic fast.
  • Play Souttar. Wasnt convinced by him against Northampton and his possession is hit and miss.  He's also an injury nightmare, and wouldnt it be just marvelous for him to pull his hammy against Notts?!? If a transfer is very likely, its a MASSIVE risk to play him.
  • Play Okoli. One of the worst footballers you will ever see, even at this level. Can't depend on him, utterly useless with the ball, and has more mistakes in him that Wout. Not as unpopular as Wout because he comes across like a nice guy.
  • Play Gray. Barely got minutes in preseason because either he's not fancied by the manager, or just isn't ready. Could knock his confidence to bits.
  • Play Aluko. Rate the guy, but not played there in preseason, and is our rotation option for RB.
  • Play Skipp or Hamza. I shall stop there.

I can imagine some pretty heated discussions happening about the CB position behind the scenes, and its likely with finances and the owners wanting to sell that everyone is having to prioritise. If you were Russell, now might not be the time to get toxic so he's likely taking this on the chin.

They're just never 'ready' are they. Can you remember the last season we went into it without any big concerns about key positions? I'm not expecting it to be 100% every time with the window still open for another 2/3 weeks but it always feels like it's too much to recover and alas, it virtually always is.

Wether you think Cullen is a striker or not or if he is good enough or not is irrelevant. Martin DOES think he is a #9 he said exactly that today and has played him as a 9 previously so clearly thinks he's good enough.

We need to face the fact that he was brought in as a striker and him and Bristric will be our two main options.

so the point (that it's an entirely terrible read of the squad to declare that Bristic, Cullen and Reid are enough up top) still stands then. if we play cullen up front we're ****ed. If we play Reid up top we might as well just forfeit the game

Imagine if we sold Souttar, Faes and then signed a striker and Okoil got injured, people would be going mad.

Our attention in the short term is going to be CBs, because we are about to have 1 fit one.

Then we more than likely go back to another CF.

😂 FT meltdown

Did you predict JJ would be our top scorer last season? Or that Andy King would be such a goal machine last time around these parts?

Cullen, Alves, Page (if he stays), Chaplin, Burns... We could absolutely have a genuine goalscorer at the club already, it doesn't have to be a striker.

Had suspected this would be the case, it will be a couple of center backs and maybe a third keeper signing?

We've already got 3 keepers

Very much enjoyed the term 'generational bozos' here lol

T’was a joke. Getting withdrawal symptoms after about a week of not signing a new keeper.
