My main concern is that Martin sticks with ‘his’ players like Cullen and Burns as regular starters, which based on today’s showing leaves the team short of the athleticism needed to be a success in this league.

Agree with this. Notts County subs were more athletic than some of our starters...

I'm surprised that some are surprised. This is the Russell Martin that had so many fans alarmed just being linked with him. Get used to it as he's shown at his previous clubs that he's happy to play this way until he's sacked.

You are the voice of reason but we’ve heard the same comments with Cifuentes’ team. I hope you’re right but that was bad, really bad.

Reminded me of the Coventry game under Enzo, which we should have lost opening day of that season.

Alves and Joseph are our best players. The players who looked poor in the championship and premier league surprise surprise still look shite (Thomas, Okoli, Reid). Howell looked good on the ball.

I felt Reid, Thomas and Okoli might have found their level… but seems we need to be lower down for them to start to look decent

On the plus side we can now answer the age old philosophical question of what humans would be like if God had made their spines out of blancmange.

We all know lower league football is direct physical, no nonsense football so we appoint a manager that plays possession football moving round the back, that achieves nothing, I can see that is flawed and so can every team we will play against this season, is isnt rock science.

i listened to Fuch on Radio 5 telling it as it should be no nonsense direct football,.

We play over complicated football, puts your own players under pressure, they will make mistakes, the other side know that, they just keep pressing till you make it, they get their chance, they score and we lose moral, cause we kept the ball for so long and gained nothing.

I think that opening statement is a little outdated, a lot thinking Lge 1 is still stuck in the 80s.

The current league leaders under Jim McNulty play a possession based game as does Luton’s Jack Wilshire with both heavily involving the keeper to start attacks, Peterborough, Blackpool, Leyton Orient & Wigan all play a similar fashion & im sure many others do, even Notts County were playing from the keeper today in parts…we just need to get better at it or hopefully change the 4 players to JJs left

Just to avoid any confusion about the match today and it’s impact… Notts County we’re in the 2nd Division last season…

I turned the game off & watched the snooker instead. If this is representative of what we will see this season, I probably wont be watching too many games.

We looked like we was sooo comfortable, no pressure, or urgency , but Nottingham kept doing this thing like they wanted to interfere with our game plan and spoil it.

Bit unfair really.

Do they not know who we are!

How many players do you think we’ve got?

Did you just start supporting this season? Thats cute.

The following player need to be removed from the squad.

Skipp

Choudary

Thomas

Okoli

Souttar

BDCR

Faes

These names mentioned above are the reason we are shite. They have a weak mentality and not 1 of them know how to see out a game, when the pressure is against them they crumble.

Keep these away from the rest of the squad because like a rotten apple that mentality will spread and screw up the rest of the careers for the other players.

I don’t think the style of play is necessarily the problem, after all Cardiff got automatic promotion with style of play whilst also scoring the most goals in the league. The difference is we are missing the right profiles throughout the team to both play this style, and provide balance.

A ball playing centre half and a better holding midfielder than Skipp and the team would be transformed. I think we could also do with a midfield than provides some athleticism should Page be sold.

Spot on.

We were overrun all game and that’s going to be a constant problem if we don’t address that part of the squad.

Before everyone gets over excited, just remember that was against Notts County, many people's favourites to win the league.

...oh.

I was caught out by how good on the ball Braybrooke was. Incredibly comfortable passing the ball, quicker than expected too.

He was caught out by how unaware Skipp and Hamza are.

It's way too early to draw any conclusions, but the disappointing thing is that it looked a lot like performances last year just with a bit more of the ball. There were flashes of good stuff in the first half but the team looks weak physically, seemed to tire quickly and the defending was all over the place at times. Would have been good to see just a bit more energy in the team even if the performance wasn't there

We need to work on having more of the ball to. That's the kind of football that wins you games. And it's exciting to watch. Glad to help.

It was a very poor game of football from both teams but I actually found it entertaining for about 30 minutes, 15 minutes either side of Half time. Watching that can't give you any hope for the season, the ones that worry you on the ball are the "experienced" players any time a player under 23 or 24 gets the ball they either spark something or give the ball away at least trying something positive.
