Lowest Position Ever in Club History

Around 2021 I remember saying to someone that I don't think we would ever get relegated again. We were absolutely miles ahead of the promoted teams.

 

At the start of last season- aware of our numerous problems - I thought to myself that I would take midtable obscurity (even bottom half) for several years while we rebuild the team and club for another go at promotion.

 

Lately, with how bleak it seems to be and with no end in sight, I pondered that same question. I still wouldn't trade either, but it rung true today seeing our starting 11 and realising there's no omissions from the squad that would elevate this side. We are now a league 1 side with league 1 quality players and its a level playing field, and it could be decades getting back to where we want to be.

 

However, we dont half not help ourselves. The right manager could galvanise this club and make it fly again.

A fair number of pundits don't think so they think we're still PL but have had some bad luck and keep saying it. We weren't even PL the last time we were in the PL

Away goals count as one of the tiebreakers this season.

 

Rules for classification: 1) Points; 2) Goal difference; 3) Number of goals scored; 4) Head-to-head results; 5) Wins; 6) Away goals; 7) Penalty points (sec 9.5); 8) 12-point sending off offences. (Section 9 of the league rules)

Not a great start loads of possession xg 0.77 which was a third of that of Notts. Nonetheless management think we have enough strength up front when for the second consecutive game needed a defender to get a goal. Honestly not confident in the slightest that the position in the table will improve. Transfer business underwhelming with older pros known to the manager. Style of play might be different but still overly cautious lots  of similarities with Coopers time here so far

Can't find a table to be certain but I think they were ahead of us on goals scored between the 28th October 2008 and 11 November 2008, having played a game more due to us not having a game on the 6th September 2008 due to internationals. Never behind them having played the same amount of games.

The thing is though, I really couldn't tell you who the right manager is. 

 

 

I don't believe in calling for a manager to be sacked after 2 competitive games with major surgery on the squad still being required. 

 

I don't care about whether it's good to watch or not if it gets us promoted. However, I do accept that this football is joyless and if it doesn't yield results, then I can't see myself tolerating it for too long.
