Imagine Souttar plays alongside O'Hora until Jan and see how Kangasniemi gets on in the EFL trophy games and ease him in to replace.

 

Lundstrum, Page and Braybrooke as midfield 3, my worry would be lack of goals, something Page and Braybrooke will need to add to their games. 

 

Plenty of rotation options in forward positions, jury out is on their quality in some cases.

Cullen looks like the only bit of bad business, I’m still hopeful Burns will come good once the style of play fully clicks and the tempo of play increases with confidence.

 

Really don’t think McCarron or Martin could have done much more tbh.

 

Ill whisper it quietly but the way Martin has cleared the decks with those who have wanted out and integrated the youth we’ve all been desperate for has actually really impressed me.

It’s been a pretty good window, to be fair. Loads of dross gone. Still hope we could get rid of Faes and Okoli. Four decent loans. Souttar staying and seemingly motivated. Two actual strikers signed. Realistically we have the strongest squad on paper in the division and we’ve gone a long way to right the financial issues. 
 

Now to actually win games consistently…

We might have the right players now but our coaches really have to do better setting up our defence. The number of chances given up to Plymouth last night was shocking. Very lucky to get away with it.

Pretty incredible, given how poor/slow we've at doing business in the last few years. But I guess financial realities, relegation clauses and low appetite for playing in League One make things a bit easier.

That depends on what we negotiated with the clubs. I can't imagine Charlton Athletic are paying all or even most of Skipp's wages, but a richer club like Watford might be covering the majority of Mavididi's, for example.

With only 7 subs, the squad feels 2-3 too heavy for me but hopefully Faes, Coulibaly and possibly Okoli go somewhere where the window is still open. Otherwise I fear we'll see them getting in the way.

 

I'm going to trust that the EFL are all over our numbers and therefore not getting some of these players out we rejected bids fo has not put us in a financial problem.

 

On paper right now, i'm pretty happy with it.

1. Braybrooke Page Alves & Joseph were starting games

2. 4 loan signings from PL clubs

3. Hamza, Vestergaard, Winks, Skipp, Mavididi, Ayew, Daka, Kristiansen, Vietes, Begovic were all no longer at the club (even though some are loans) 

4. We actually sold some academy deadwood
 

I would’ve snapped your hands off.

 

For me, the disappointments are:

1. Not clearing Faes, Okoli, BDCR and Woyo

2. The prioritisation (even if they’re free or very cheap transfers) of players that won’t grow with us, leading to Evans out on loan, Motsi leaving, and Hutchinson nowhere to be seen

3. Monga sale (even though we knew it was coming)

4. I think Cartwright could’ve contributed this season but don’t begrudge him and the club making the move

 

Juries still out on the new boys so won’t judge them as part of the rebuild just yet.

To counter the disappointments.

 

1. He gets pelters, but i dont have an issue with BDCR. He should have scored at least 2 for us, but he's not a mardy lazy one, and i think he will have a positive impact on the younger players. Faes and Okoli not going is a huge disappointment.

2. Evans on loan will be the best thing that ever happened for him. He can come back razor sharp ready for when we send the Brighton boys back. Hutchinson is really young - I dont think we should be accomodating him right now.

3. Monga's sale is a plus point for us. Good money, and its released the pathway for Alves who is 'currently' a better and much more impactful player. Monga will have the better career, but its going to take him several seasons to get there and i dont think we needed him this season. Page / Braybrooke / Alves / JJ are much more impactful players than Monga.

4. Again, i think its a positive we moved him on if we didnt feel he was right for us. I really liked him, but would rather we didnt hoard academy players 'just in case'.

 

So really the only downside for me is not dumping Faes, Okoli and Woyo.

At the end of the day, its very difficult to do an expensive rebuild in league one. This is about having enough to atleast get into the championship. Hopefully by then we will be bought and have more money. We should have more than enough in our ranks to clear this league.

I took this screenshot during Jan from Capology of the highest wages in the Championship at the time:

 

 

9 of the highest paid 16 were Leicester.

 

This was absolutely criminal mismanagement, and was going to put ouf club out of business.

 

Fair play to McCaron or whoever is responsible, but they have got rid of all but 2 (mixture of expired contracts, sales, loans, mutual agreements).

 

Shame Faes is still around, but Soutter is bottom of that list and almost like a new signing and could dominate in the division, but the slashing of the players wage bill is quite phenomenal.

 

(Will caveat by saying a lot of those salaries are estimated and should be taken with a pinch of salt, but I don't doubt the names on the list being the high earners).

Two strong lineups at this level, and only Thomas/Okoli were regulars last season.

 

Think it's safe to say the rebuild has taken a meaningful step in the right direction, finally. After years of minimal effective change (and it arguably getting worse) it feels like there's a big culture shift at the club too.

 

Hopefully it bears fruit.

All in all it's been a very good window. We've moved on pretty much all the high earners with only Faes and possibly Okoli (not sure what he's paid) left and if rumours are to be believed, Faes will be leaving whether he finds a new club or not.

 

The players we have brought in are either experienced at this level or young, hungry and talented players with a point to prove that will compliment the obvious talent we already have in the club in the likes of Alves, Braybrooke and Page.

 

The only draw back is that such wholesale change will now mean an almost inevitable slower start to the season as these new players find their feet and gel together but once we get up to speed, I expect us to be a force to be reckoned with. I'm not saying we will win the league by 20 points but I fully expect us to be right up there, top 6, top 4 maybe is realistic.

 

One thing that is also clear and that is that someone other than Rudkin must of been behind this turnaround in regards to playing staff so some credit must go to the club and whoever behind the scenes has made all this happen
