I thought the first joker film was just a cheap knock off of the king of comedy.

second one is a musical and apparently a big middle finger to fans of the first film. Not that I liked the first film all that much but I think I’ll pass.

after watching Joker, i realised it was a movie that many wouldn't like, i was in awe at the Phoenix performance and the whole atmosphere, i thought the idea he was a bastard son of Thomas Wayne a nice touch, but the subject matter was deep and dark and i liked it.

Joker 2 - again really interesting, i can see why it would bomb, its confusing and disjointed, but when you break the movie down, the meaning of what happens as it happens and why, it really is quite good.

Its an arty movie that convays a message and a feeling about lonliness in a crowded world, mental health, abuse and trauma, wanting to be loved, false persona, how people see you and how you see them, and the ending was a great twist i thought.

Halfway through Threads and the wife says to me, "I don't remember some of this."

"It's not a documentary, woman."

I've no idea how we've remained married, I really haven't.

The Substance - 7/10, body horror starring Demi Moore and Margaret Qually, great film with a seriously gross out ending

Had a looks at Threads last night on iPlayer.. bleak is an understatement 🤣

Maybe someone should take inspiration from the recent Joker film and make Threads: The Musical.

It's darkly magnificent.

And yet, it only really scratches the surface of the things that would happen should the events depicted happen for real.

Been watching Threads myself recently, assume it’s reappeared on iPlayer hence the uptick in viewing?

Bleak, powerful and mildly depressing.

Mildly?

I remember there was a thread a long time ago about "most depressing/fvcked-up movies" (must have been lost in a server reset or something at some point) and Threads naturally got mentioned quite a bit.

Remember @Miquel The Work Geordie (I think) asking about it and why it was getting so many mentions, then taking a quick look and saying "Yeah, fvck that completely".

Love this film, old but gold, a spy thriller western, story by Alistair McClean, starring Charles Bronson who made quite a few top tier Westerns including playing an Indian in Chato's Land.

Just watched The Substance. That was a wild ride; still not sure if it was a good ride, but a ride it was. It will probably stick with me for a while.

Yeah but we need to talk about Tom Hanks (maybe in the tin foil hat thread).
