Pathetic batting display. Odd ball did a bit but nothing special not positive enough and let them bowl at us. Poor.

With the possible cancellation of the one day cup season could soon fade out

Yeah, not great at all. Take away our 3 overseas players and we scored very few runs in either innings in this match.

A couple of further reflections:

Have no idea why we played Hill as an opener in this match when he has been averaging nearly 50 at number 5 and Azad was fit. I know Azad has been off form but Hill is not an opener.

We need to find an all rounder who can bat in the top 6 as our tail is far too long - Mike and Parkinson should be 8 and 9, not 7 and 8.

Agree completely.

By my quick calculation the other 8 players scored 103 runs between them in 2 innings .

Agree with posts above. Can't help but feel Harris should have opened given his experience there allowing Hill to return to 5, Ackermann has also batted at 3 before too so fills in nicely behind Harris.

I think if we'd gone into this season with Mulder as planned that would have really helped with the balance of the side. Though obviously not if it had been instead of Harris! The two would have been ideal.

Agree with all, finally get Hill batting well and we move him to opener. Probably could have put Ingliss to open then kept everyone else in their normal spots. Give us a start at least!

Also think Swindells should have kept. Unless injured.

Seemed to knock him off his stride. Batting timedly both innings.

May even be worth looking at playing steele at 6 or 7 a spinner I think you can trust and can bat. I think he'd contribute more than Mike with bat and ball. Could be a good all-rounder if the weather improves and grounds dry.

Leaves you With less of a tail. Three seamers probably enough. Davies Wright Sekande or Barnes. Still play Parky as I think his bowling is improving.

Does anyone know much about whats going on with the RLODC assuming it goes ahead?

I believe we only lose Ackers and Parkinson as well as Inglis though I'm not sure the latter was with us beyond the Blast anyway.

So we'll need a new captain and some options in terms of spin.

Rhodes has had a pretty good season in the 2nds so assume he'll come in and provide that spin option alongside Lilley and Steel. Though Bowley could be an option as well Rhodes actually has a decent record batting in 50 overs which surely gives him the edge.

I know this is supposed to be a development competition now so wonder if any other young players could come in as well.

Assuming we aim to pick our strongest side could we see something like:

Welch

Steel

Harris (C)

Lilley

Patel

Hill

Swindells (WK)

Rhodes

Mike

Barnes

Davis

The three spin options likely eat up plenty of overs however if Mike is getting carted do we want just two other pace bowlers in the side? Mike finding some concistency would really help.

Dearden or Bates are other batting options.

This will be interesting.

Harris

Welch

Azad

Dearden

Hill (WK)

Rhodes

Mike

Klein

Davis

Griffiths

Sakande

Steel

Bates

S.Evans

Lilley

Patel

Swindells (WK)

Kimber

Barnes

Bowley

A.Evans

Wright

Without Parkinson and Ackermann I think we could just about put out two opposing 11s so considering injuries, rest and those less suited to white ball (Azad and Evans?) We should see a few young lads in the mix.

Pretty much this, although Nat Bowley and Kimber need to be fitted in somehow.

We have a ridiculously big squad don't we?

I wonder if we picked up a few extra players anticipating covid absences etc. Looking at those two XIs I think we've a lot of decent players and not enough really good ones. Finding them easier said than done but we can't afford to carry the likes of Rhodes and Dearden if they're not playing surely.

Next season I suspect we could shed a few and perhaps put any budget freed up towards an overseas fast bowler to supplement the attack in the four day games. A Neser or Mulder type would really boost the side.

Yep. Especially considering a significant percentage never play. Batsmen coming out of our ears.

Yes, best analysis I've seen. Dobell has always been on the money better than most about this.

Sad how there's been little critical analysis from the Beeb because they need people to actually watch this. Although I do feel a bit sorry for them - as he mentions, they're getting a product completely different to the one they were sold.

One or two counties probably means us and Middlesex.
