Odds massively stacked against us now.

Dobell saying that the end of the blast and the entire Royal London cup now in doubt because of the hundred and covid. If that turns out to be accurate then it's no cricket at all in Leicester over the peak summer weeks.

It's a complete disgrace.

This worse than what the most money grabbing sport in the world does.

Yep. Especially on the back of no spectators at cricket last summer.

These problems are caused by Covid and soaring infection rates rather than the Hundred

If the Hundred wasn't a thing then county cricket wouldn't be sacrificed.

This is purely down to prioritising the new, club killing format.

But the Hundred is around. I get that you and many others don't like it. But I firmly believe cricket has to continue to evolve to find new audiences. The four day game, as much as I love it, simply does not generate much revenue. I suspect there are too many First Class Counties to be sustainable, too. I hate to say that, as Leicestershire is clearly one of the most vulnerable given its very low supporter base - by which I mean people actually willing to pay money to watch them, rather than merely following them.

That's the argument, but I fail to see how stopping people from watching cricket in Leicester finds you a new audience.

It’s not the four day game being sacrificed. It’s two things.

1) The 50 over format competition to which England are current world champions and already superb at. When winning it two years ago today, it brought more coverage to the sport than any money could

2) The existing T20 Blast competition - by which the ECB are replacing the counties abilities to gain hard ticketing cash, corporates and sponsors are throwing it all behind a TV deal.

If the 100 is a success this summer or the next, what’s the next step for a family wanting to watch cricket? Judging from the latest rumours, you couldn’t watch any cricket in the middle of the summer this year and next year you’d be left with a B Grade T20 comp or county championship to watch. I don’t see the legacy created here.

Indeed, they need to be very careful what they wish for here imo.

I don't know if there is anything riding on the game but how can Surrey bring in the worlds number 1 spinner for one game lol How is that fair?

Why not you are a!lowed  2 overseas players can sign them whenever you want

Pathetic batting display. Odd ball did a bit but nothing special not positive enough and let them bowl at us. Poor.

With the possible cancellation of the one day cup season could soon fade out

The ECB are wretched. The Hundred is actually a worse idea than the European Super League. The ESL was more galling but it made some sort of sense to the clubs doing it. The Hundred is just unbelievably shit.

Absolute twats. Potentially stopping a competition because they need back-up players for this plastic shitshow and denying fans the chance to watch live cricket played by the teams they follow.

I think the 50 over comp will still go ahead, on the subject of the 100 I seem to remember the T20 comp was met with derision by many counties when it was first introduced. A few counties shifted it to out grounds in that first season.

Leicestershire were one of the few to take it seriously.
I’m sceptical Whether we needed yet another new format when we could of revamped our domestic T20 into something special but the ECB seem determined to run it down even though there is a fantastic competition in there to be grabbed, shaken up and marketed to rival the other top T20 competitions.

Alas The 100 is here and cricket in my opinion needs it to be successful because if not they’ll use its failure as an excuse just cut half a dozen counties and make cricket into a minority sport for the select few.

Bad defeat by the foxes against the worst side in the country.

Letting an injured player who couldn't play a hook shot score 66 off 184 - if he scores 10 and 50 balls - the amount of time we'd have to just grind out the total would have been fine.
