How was my (last 2/3) day(s)? Started to ache like buggery on Sunday evening, couldn't do much Monday so took it steady. knowing I had a professional engagement yesterday lunchtime. Had to travel to Peterborough via North Leics and was freezing in my car. Got to P'boro and took a covid test, which was negative. Sweated my balls off overnight, concert was pretty tricky because my fingers felt like sausages. Drove home yesterday evening, got into bed, where I was so cold that when I got up to find layers, my hands and arms were shaking uncontrollably - which made taking a leak interesting. Found said layers and got to sleep, and of course woke up absolutely soaked through in sweat. All this accompanied by a strange little twinge in my diaphragm region. Nothing else had much happened symptom-wise, but no surprise that the lower sluice gate has now opened up very liquid.

I cannot decide if I want this to be Covid or not. Either way, it's bloody unpleasant and not the best timing.

This is guaranteed to be a python tapeworm in your brain.

When did you last get checked out?

Whatever you've got doesn't sound good, so you know what you should do!

Spend all my time wanging on on here about how right I am about everything whilst playing the victim?

There’s the whiff of Parma violet gin in the lounge. I can’t believe I drank that on top of the wine. Thank Christ the wife is coming home today so I don’t do that to myself again.

14 days of Italian with Duolingo. Not sure why anyone would pay for it, the free version works really well.

IIRC the free version restricts how much time you can use it daily, so if people want to use it a bit more they need to pay for it

Currently stuck on Level 6 of the John Lewis Car Park where no one has really moved for about 15 minutes!

Some really nice gelato on the way back to the car though.

Sounds like a new really bad computer game I don't understand why people play - like the train driver one.

Was subject to random check when using the Smartshop thing at Sainsbury's.

Only started using it a couple of weeks ago but used it loads since then so maybe they thought I was a risk (I am, obviously, for all sorts of reasons e.g hot takes).

It's brilliant, it makes it look like they think you're a shoplifter.  I was crapping myself, I was super careful to scan everything the first few times but I've been getting a bit blasé and now doing it on autopilot. Turns out I HAD scanned everything, but until the woman said it was all good I was wondering what the heck happens if it's not? Do you get frog marched to an office? Tasered?

It's put me off a bit, I'll be honest

As far as I know, they re-scan your receipt then look through your shopping for anything not on the ticket and then you get challenged.

It was all very high tech - I'd not even paid yet, but they took an electronic copy of what I'd scanned and then rescanned everything in the bags. What made it even more tense was that it said at first, just check 7 items, and then at the end of that it said she'd got to do the whole lot.

I spend a bloody fortune in that shop (and they know this thanks to the Nectar card) so I hope they'd be gentle with me if I made a small mistake but I might have been seconds away from being put in a headlock and pepper sprayed

They scan about 5 random items on a re-check.

If one of those hasn't been scanned, they'll empty all your bags and re-scan the whole lot, whilst you stand there looking like a naughty schoolboy.

Never happened to me, I hide the stuff I don't bother scanning right at the bottom of the bag, so it's never in the 5 random ones

(I'll make it clear thats a joke before someone gets the wrong idea!)

I did once walk out with a case of beer under my trolley by mistake. Didn't realise until we got home, miscommunication between my and the Mrs.

I felt awful, a few drinks sorted that out though lol

And I put a load of stuff in the food bank collection next time I was in there.

I've never hit a time limit on it but find the restriction on how many wrong answers you can get pretty annoying.

Still, for free it's a great resource. I'm on day 215 of learning Spanish.

I don't get how it can be a problem after 5 (or 7 in my case) items but OK at the end of it?

What I meant to do was ask how the staff felt about all this stuff and whether it would be better for them if folk used the traditional tills, but I was too busy panicking for no reason to do that

They save more money by not having as many staff on the till, than they lose from dishonest people.

I grabbed a bunch of bananas the other week with my small shop and it never had any tag/sticker on it, so it went through self service and straight into my bag.

You’re meant to weigh them and get the label that way
