Unfortunately there are many cases of death row prisoners turned out ot be innocent. I'm in no way advocating to get the death penalty back. Don't get me wrong on that, sir.

Every justice system has its flaws but you hear more often than not that pedos and rapist are back on the streets as quick as you can imagine. Doing a lot less years that they were supposed to.

You're correct. You do hear these things. In The Sun and the Daily Mail. I wouldn't wipe my arse on them.

But that's my point, you hear that WHERE? The Sun? The Daily Mail? The Mirror?

BBC World to be honest. :D

No i dont agree with the death penalty.

Ive watched programmes and read interviews about it before and just do NOT agree with it.

In cases of the lethal injection, they give the same dosage to every person. They dont take into account peoples weight or height and in a few cases ive read that the person is in excruciating pain and unable to let anyone know as another part of the paralyzing drug stops them from from doing anything at all.

I'm not a scientist or anything like that, i'm just reiterating what i have read. :S

I don't agree with it, but I voted yes.

In an ideal world where the prison's could hold people and justice wasn't a joke then it would be very wrong to every resort to killing someone.

However, as the prison's cannot hold people, and justice is often a joke. I would prefer proven murders and paedophiles killed than be put in prison for 5 years, let out and re-offend.

People talk about the rights of the criminals, how about the rights of the 2nd and 3rd victims, don't they have the right to live? What about the children that are raped and abused by repeat offenders? They have rights too.

Yes, innocent people die, but as it isn't an ideal world, I would take the small percent of innocent people dying over the lives ruined by criminals reoffending.

Another options is to scrap the jail system and bring about chain gangs, lets murderers and peadophiles do some work, free up the jails and allow for better justice. Yes it isn't a nice way to treat people, it's horrible. But they don't exactly deserve nice treatment if they have killed someone or raped a child IMO.

I'd say no for a lot of the reasonsalready posted. I'm a little surprised at the replies and the number saying no. From previous posts I thought there were a few barbaric types on here. Only because when there is a major story about a killing there is a lot of calling for eye for an eye revenge.

It is difficult to stay nuetral when a child is murdered in a horrible fashion but for others most murders are domestic committed by a spouse or partner. It only takes a moment of desperation to grab that kitchen knife. Despite what the tabloids say a lot of killers feel remorse and have sleepless nights because of it. I know I would. Sorting out the sane and those whose minds are unbalanced would not be easy using todays rules. You might have an IQ thats in the top hundred but at the same time have a desire to kill. How do you define insanity?

There isn't really a black and white answer to this. I voted no because killing people is just wrong, however I do have doubts. I think about people who will never be let out like Ian Huntley and I think what's the point? It's costing us a fortune and it would probably be kinder to him. :dunno:

Just because they've been found guilty does it mean they did it? ;)

I heard this week that my sister-in-law's friend's son was murdered in Bedford by 3 youths on Boxing Day. When the parents went to the court for the preliminary hearing, the youths looked at the parents and

sneered at them. I'm not sure that it would be a deterrent but it sure would get rid of this filth if guilty.

I say no to the death penalty but i also think they shouldnt just sit in a nice cushy cell watching tv and using my tax money to pay for their keep. Get them out doing hard labor. and i dont mean 5 hour days with a fag break every hour, nice solid hard 10 hour days digging roads. Heavily guarded with nothing but water until lunch and the same until the end of the day.

Sod their human rights as they didnt seem to care about the rights of the one they murdered.

I agree in principle. But it wouldn't work. You cold guard them as heavily as you like. A lot of these people aren't as stupid as they are sometimes depicted. They would get away.

The only solution to "keeping them inside at our expense" is by killing them. I don't believe in killing people who have killed, mainly because it's an easy way out for them. Let them suffer. Plus the particularly nasty criminals such as paedophiles get an almighty pasting in prison, which is a good thing.

So arguing about the expense is pretty pointless in my opinion, it's a cost we have to accept, a tax that we must pay. What's important is that this money isn't wasted on pointless imprisonments, miscarriages of justice and the like.

Err so I suppose what I'm trying to say is no they shouldn't bring back the death penalty. Whether I would feel like that if someone close to me was a victim I don't know. But then that's why victims don't decide the law isn't it.

Not with a ball and chain round their ankles.

Im sure if they have the equipment to dig a modern road, breaking a chain won't be a huge challenge to them.

Who said anything about digging roads? Let them pick litter up from the motorways.
