ousefox Posted 20 March 2009 Posted 20 March 2009 If we could get him for anything under 750k it would be a bargain!
Legend_in_blue Posted 20 March 2009 Posted 20 March 2009 400k is too low for a player of his quality. If we get him for that I will be over the moon. Conducting business at that level would be nothing short of brilliant. He's got to be worth more surely?
Matt Posted 20 March 2009 Author Posted 20 March 2009 Daily Mirror reports that Liverpool defender Jack Hobbs is wanted by Leicester, and that the East Midland club is ready to pay £400 000.Hobbs joined Leicester on loan in front of this season, from Liverpool, and has been a great hit at the Walkers Stadium. Leicester manager Nigel Pearson looks certain to stear the club to a promotion back to the Championship. Hobbs has made his full Liverpool debut, playing for the Reds in last seasons League Cup. Hobbs was signed by Liverpool from Lincoln in 2005 for a fee believed to be £750 000. http://www.soccervoice.com/n090391.htm Despite Liverpool have no doubt many £££'s would they really want to make a loss with Hobbs?

No doubt the £750k was the maximum including add ons for playing prem football, making international debut etc. That is usually the way it works. They probably got the figure from a Lincoln source.
Fox in a Box Posted 20 March 2009 Posted 20 March 2009 I think £400k for Hobbs would be a very shrewd bit of business indeed he is actually worth double that so therefore £400K is very resaonable..... thanks Mandrichblokeybloke short arms long pockets!

They probably got the figure from a Lincoln source. I think that figure is correct. I can see Liverpool asking for more as he also has a sell on clause for 25% owed to Lincoln. Lets hope it goes through. I was having a search about this on google and came across this. The 16-year-old defender was set for a move to Liverpool's Premiership rivals Arsenal but the north London club and the Red Imps could not agree on a sell-on clause as part of the deal. This notified Reds boss Rafa Benitez and it now seems that the Reds have struck a deal for the highly talented defender. Lincoln director Keith Rowe earlier told the BBC: "I have sent a proposal to a major Premiership club in the north west." If Hobbs successfuly finishes a one week trial for the Reds he will join the European Champions, leaving Arsenal empty handed. Seems Arsenal were also interested in him in the past. This will be a steal if NP pulls this one off.

Thracian Posted 20 March 2009 Posted 20 March 2009 If Pearson gets Hobbs for £400,000 he should try walking on water, just to put his mind at rest.
dandannieldanok Posted 20 March 2009 Posted 20 March 2009 Good price for a promising young English centre-half, providing that this story is true and then the bid is accepted.

Cobbo Posted 20 March 2009 Posted 20 March 2009 400k is a bit steep. How much did Tunch cost us Less than that, more than that Either way need to compare Tunchev's price with what we pay for Hobbs. Is one fu cking insane? £400k would be a snip for Hobbs! I am a bit dubious of the reality of this bid however.
MPH Posted 20 March 2009 Posted 20 March 2009 The opening bid in what i perceive to be a couple of weeks of negociations. lets just hope mandaric doesnt delay and play it too smart so other clubs are able to get a foot in the door....
iancognito Posted 20 March 2009 Posted 20 March 2009 Hobbs, Morrison, Tunchev, Brown, Kisnorbo. We'd have the best collection of CBs in the championship. Even if Brown went back to Hull, it still bodes well for the defence next year. Let's just hope we can start finding the back of the net at that level too.
Corky Posted 20 March 2009 Posted 20 March 2009 Is one fu cking insane?£400k would be a snip for Hobbs! It's maddog, so yes, one is.
Bryn Posted 20 March 2009 Posted 20 March 2009 If they don't want a 7 figure fee I'll be mighty surprised.
MPH Posted 20 March 2009 Posted 20 March 2009 If they don't want a 7 figure fee I'll be mighty surprised. 800k plus add ons, i suspect
knowitall Posted 20 March 2009 Posted 20 March 2009 KNOWITALL please confirm if true!!??Personally think 400k is spot on, he is good defender and will get better and better. Tunch and Hobbs pairing next year with Morrisson as back-up would be great!! CONFIRMED I did post a week ago that Leicester would want to buy him. However I did post it in the middle of another thread. I am getting a bit parnoid. Hobbs and Leicester want the deal, waiting on Liverpool. Would think a Liverpool source leaked the info to see if anyone else is interested. Hobbs has never thought of himself as a "Liverpool player" He was forced to sign a new two year contract with Liverpool before he joined Leicester. If he had not he would have had a season in Liverpool reserves and looking for a new club himself at the end of the season and Liverpool still getting a fee.

Very interesting, cheers agin Whay are you paranoid? Also can you confirm the rumours that Jack Hobbs eats (steals if you wish) Matty Fryatt's cobs? The reason for Hobbs bulking up & Fryatt losing the pounds?
Daggers Posted 20 March 2009 Posted 20 March 2009 Hobbs has never thought of himself as a "Liverpool player" Anyone else consider this an odd statement? So, he never considered himself part of the team who paid his wages? Who nurtured him? He never considered himself good enough to make the grade? Why did he never consider himself a Liverpool player? Does he consider himself a Leicester player?

Alf Bentley Posted 20 March 2009 Posted 20 March 2009 CONFIRMEDI am getting a bit paranoid. Hobbs and Leicester want the deal, waiting on Liverpool. Would think a Liverpool source leaked the info to see if anyone else is interested. This occurred to me, too, and the scousers do have a bit of a reputation for trying to be ruthless in the transfer market lately (e.g. Gareth Barry)... maybe rival bids, I'd say... Centre back situation is looking interesting: Assuming promotion, presumably Tunchev & Morrison will definitely stay, so how many of Hobbs, Brown & Kisnorbo will join them? Surely, we need 4 first-team squad centre backs at the most? Even then, 1 of the 4 wouldn't even make the bench unless there were injuries....
Koke Posted 20 March 2009 Posted 20 March 2009 £400k for Hobbs would be an absolute seal. The Scousers would probably want to recoup some of the money they paid to Lincoln, and on top of that they'd probably put a sell-on clause on his head.
STUHILL Posted 20 March 2009 Posted 20 March 2009 Well they didn't exactly do good business on buying and selling Robbie Keane so I'm still hoping 400k is on the table!!!
Candidcamera Posted 21 March 2009 Posted 21 March 2009 Really pleased with this and from Knowitall's previous post the bid may have been made a short time before the news has broken. This shows real ambition by City and to get in before the anyone else. Let's have Hobbs for years like Steve Walsh.
