The questions were on hole-punched cards. You had to feed the cards through some device that could recognise the pattern of holes which would then, eventually, print out a sheet of the calculations and the answer.

 

I think it was called COBOL.

COBOL was (is) a programming language. COmmon Business Orientated Language. Sadly old enough to remember having to write programs in it

 

No idea what make the computer was though .
