Am I the only one who doesn't have a 5/10 year plan of where I want my life to be/go?

I've always been a fairly laid back individual and will take things in my stride. I have goals but I don't like to attribute time to them so specifically. Some things I want done in next couple of years and other things further along the line. But I've never been one to focus on 5/10 year plans - I think because there's always something that happens within that time which can throw the proverbial cat amongst the pigeons. And if something isn't done within 5 years, does that make you a failure? It shouldn't, but do people think like that?

Some of the 'gurus' will say it's important to have 5/10 year plans and goals and I was always a big believer in it in my 20's.

Until one day in 2004 I was merrily on my way to achieving my goals and suddenly ended up in hospital for the next 18 months on and off which pretty much fvcked everything up and turned my life upside down.

My mantra and outlook on life has now completely changed and I really do try and live each day as if it was my last. I know it's cliche but we really don't know what's around the corner.

There's nothing wrong with having 5/10 year plans and fair play to those who do, but it ain't for me anymore. I certainly don't think it makes us a failure if something isn't done or we don't achieve what we set out to. Things change, situations change, people change, circumstances change and life is always evolving.

Some of the most happy and content people I know have never had any sort of plan for life. The problem as I see it is that too many people go through life thinking "I'll be happy when....(I achieve my goals/plan).

Just be happy now. Happiness leads to success much more often than success leads to happiness...

As long as you're happy in life in general - good family/friend ties, job stability, financially secure, physically and mentally well - what else matters really?

What would you like to achieve within a certain time period and why it has to be within that period?

Not sure if you're thinking about career or life out of work or both, but as long as you feel satisfied with yourself/progress at the moment - that's all that matters imo.

I think the hardest part about of this is being too hard on yourself and also comparing your self to others at your age. The latter shouldn't be thought about as there's plenty of people your age that would like to be in your position (obviously I don't know you, but you come across as well-educated, diligent, able to manage yourself well and have interest in others).

This is exactly where I'm coming from, especially the first part. So much can happen in one's life that it sometimes becomes too late to start enjoying things you wanted to before.

Thanks. All those things you mention first I believe I have.

It's not that I necessarily feel like I have to achieve things within a certain time but I don't want to feel like I'm going to miss out. I'm quite happy with where I am in life right now but don't want to be made to feel like I shouldn't be. Ironically I'm always telling others 'why do you care what other people think?' lol

Any electricians on here? I'm buying a new house and the electrics flagged up on the survey. We've had an electrical condition report and the guys said it needs a full rewire and rcd installing. The estate agents are dubious about it and are sending their own guy in to check it out. The agents think it just needs a new consumer unit to pass. I dont really know anything about electrics. The house is 50 years old and the agents say it shouldnt need a rewire. Are the electricians having me on or are the agents just trying to get the sale done?

I don't know anything about electrics, but I know all you need to know about estate agents.

Get a second opinion from another electrician is my advice.

Surely if they are getting a guy to come in and fit a new consumer unit though he will be certifying the fact the electrics are safe. Isn't he liable if the system is no good?

I know the agents just want to sell the house and to be fair I have many reasons to think she isn't good at her job but her electrician surely has stick to the rules.

I have no idea, tbh, I just know enough to not trust an estate agent as far as I could throw one.

@Strokes is a sparky, maybe he might have time to give you the benefit of his opinion.

Yeah it’s on the electrician to say it’s safe and it’s them that will be under scrutiny if it’s not.

I seriously doubt anyone would tell you it needs a complete rewrire unless it’s completely ****ed. So my guess would be, the estate agents guy will either confirm the above or his integrity is in question.

Have you had any issues during your time in the house, any dodgy work done?

Thanks @Buce and @Strokesfor the feedback.

I'm the buyer not the seller of the property, sorry if I didn't make that clear.

My thoughts on it were this; if the agents guy says it only needs the consumer unit and installs and certifies that it's safe it's on him if it turns out not to be safe. If the guy I hired does the work for the £3k he quoted once the work is done there no evidence whether it need to be done or not. So shouldn't I go with the agents guy because the work will be certified by him? I understand it may not be so simple.

The Mrs found the guy we hired on trust a trader or something similar and he was highly rated but said he was available to do the rewire whenever we needed. Would a good sparky thats well trusted not be more busy than that?

Just been quoted £525 to decorate a 10' by 8' bedroom, 2 walls painting and the other 2 papering. It seems pretty steep to me but it's been years since I've paid for any decorating. Does the price seem reasonable?

Yeah that does sound rather steep tbh. Was that them supplying the materials also? I’m not a decorator but that sounds like a days work.

I’ve recently just had my kitchen, porch, glossing 10 door frames, skirting boards, hall, stairs & landing done. That was 3 days work and I paid £500 but I supplied the paint which was another £120.

No I've got the wallpaper and the paint, there's no glossing, all they would need to provide is the paste and the brush!

My quote does seem high compared to what you paid, someone else is going to quote me tonight so hopefully it will be more reasonable ?

I've received an unusual amount of SPAM e-mails during the last week and yesterday received this one..

Hello!

My nickname in darknet is orson01.
I hacked this mailbox more than six months ago, through it I infected your operating system with a virus (trojan) created by me and have been monitoring you for a long time.

So, your password from x[email protected] is xxxxxxx

Even if you changed the password after that - it does not matter, my virus intercepted all the caching data on your computer and automatically saved access for me.

I have access to all your accounts, social networks, email, browsing history.
Accordingly, I have the data of all your contacts, files from your computer, photos and videos.

I was most struck by the intimate content sites that you occasionally visit.
You have a very wild imagination, I tell you!

During your pastime and entertainment there, I took screenshot through the camera of your device, synchronizing with what you are watching.
Oh my god! You are so funny and excited!

I think that you do not want all your contacts to get these files, right?
If you are of the same opinion, then I think that $820 is quite a fair price to destroy the dirt I created.

Send the above amount on my BTC wallet (bitcoin): 1NXNt72qfMhPZDffUEqryCYpEUzyR6LmgH
As soon as the above amount is received, I guarantee that the data will be deleted, I do not need it.

Otherwise, these files and history of visiting sites will get all your contacts from your device.
Also, I'll send to everyone your contact access to your email and access logs, I have carefully saved it!

Since reading this letter you have 48 hours!
After your reading this message, I'll receive an automatic notification that you have seen the letter.

I hope I taught you a good lesson.
Do not be so nonchalant, please visit only to proven resources, and don't enter your passwords anywhere!
Good luck!

Now I realise it's a hoax but the worrying thing is that it was sent to me from my own e-mail address and the password they quoted is a password I regularly use (although it's not my e-mail/Outlook password)

My PornHub days are well behind me so I'm not worried about threat to send video stuff to my contacts but it is a slight concern that my password is known and the e-mail came from my e-mail address.

I'm running Anti Virus software and do regular scans etc. but even so.

Should I be concerned and more importantly, how do I stop it happening again?

Further to this:

This scammer has now taken over half a million in bitcoin from worried victims. There have been some major data breaches in the last few years and I strongly advise that everyone visits this website to check if your email details have been compromised.

Edit: I'm clear but my daughter's email details were hacked from a website she uses for revision - they hacked her email address, username and password - so if you're a parent, check your kids' emails too.

There's a new pre match video we've had since the new screens, it plays before the fox one. Shows clips from the season so far.

What's the song? It's just some current cheesy chart Gem 106 fodder I think, I can't say I particularly like it but I've got the chorus stuck in my head.
