sdb Posted 14 January 2011 Posted 14 January 2011 A short loan maybe but no way should he leave the club. Personally I think he should be gettin more game time with us anyway, he'll only get rustier otherwise.
deep blue Posted 14 January 2011 Posted 14 January 2011 If they are willing to pay that much for him, he should go. Better £3m in the clubs pocket than sat on the bench or occassionally coming on in the 90th min Very short-sighted. First, he has the potential to do well for us once he's had a few games to get his confidence back. Second, he might not be getting a look-in at the moment, but it will only take one or two injuries to our forwards and he'll be needed. We need a sizeable squad to maintain our performance over the rest of the season.
Jacnah Posted 14 January 2011 Posted 14 January 2011 I'd sell him for 3 mill. A tidy 1 mill profit Can go towards Yakubus wages! I would as well...but..we were stupid to pay (allegedly) £2m rising to £3m, I doubt anybody else will be ....and...is there any sell on clauses to sunderland?? so on might not be any value in selling him on..
cc_star Posted 14 January 2011 Posted 14 January 2011 No one's willing to pay £3m for him - Its was a mistake in the OP, they may offer £1m seeing as he's not figured in the managers plans. Every good squad has 4 forwards who can do a job & he's one of the 4, we don't need to sell so I can't see him going. Yakubu & Vassell look to be front-runners with Howard & Waggy waiting in the wings should their form drop, one of the get injured or anything else. Personally I think he just needs minutes on the pitch, so bringing him on the 60th rather than 85th minute would do him good
wurmer Posted 14 January 2011 Posted 14 January 2011 2 Points to make:- 1. If we loan Waghorn out for the cost of his wages, we give him experience, we can evaluate any progress, we save on his wages, and then we can evaluate whether or not we want to keep him, or what price we want to sell him for. What is so difficult to understand? 2. As a fan I want the club to progress in the best way it can. I do not want the club to be giving players time on the pitch simply because people feel sorry for them - aaaarh diddums and all that trash. Conclusion: - If Waghorn cannot be risked by Sven for extensive game time, the best option is to let a bunch of no-hopers like Derby play him so that we can judge how good he is! ( Alexander the meerkat would say simplessss ). Option 1, but with a recall clause is a good one - if we need him back to cover for injuries..
Tuna Posted 14 January 2011 Posted 14 January 2011 Wagorn can't move until end of season - he can't be registered with more than 2 clubs in one season (Excluding loans), Don't think he'll be pushed out like Matty.
Guest NGoloMode Posted 14 January 2011 Posted 14 January 2011 loan him to charlton I say. I remember him saying he really didn't enjoy his time at Charlton. He might not want to go back.

shailen Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 As much as i like waghorns commitment and desire i cant see him getting into the team ahead if some of the strikers we have got. I really hope he can mke it here but i rather see him play first team football whether on loan or if we sell
ajthefox Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 Waggy just needs a decent run in the starting 11, if he goes on loan it would not surprise me if he just did what he did here and then got moved on, I don't think Sven rates him at all. He hasn't been given anything like the chances that Vassell and Bednar were as soon as they came in, and it's not like either of them did anything spectacular in their first few starts is it? I'd be so gutted for him more than anything if he moved on from here without ever really continuing the form he showed last season.
z-layrex Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 I'm rarely sentimental about stuff like this, if ever at all really, but I feel genuinely, genuinely gutted for Martyn Waghorn. He very much pinned his colours on the Leicseter mast last year. I don't consider myself a naive person, I'm well aware footballers are performers and building a rapport with the crowd is all a part of that. But I really believe he meant it. I'm well aware he'll move on, find another club and another love and in four or five years he'll barely look back at us and think twice. But for now this feels very much moving your missus away from her job, family and friends to jet off somewhere else and then breaking up with her. Can't really be surprising that he always comes on with his head down looking lacking in confidence and happiness. Would love it if Sven could pick him up but it's not really looking likely, is it? Poor lad. Oh well - if he isn't good enough he isn't good enough, he'll survive. He's earning enough! You could see how much this club's season meant to him last year when Kermorgant fu**ed us in the arse. He broke down on the pitch. :[
grth2004 Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 Massive fan of waghorns attitude , he gave 100% last season and scored some vital goals , you can tell he cared and that means alot these days , i hope sven can give him his confidence back and hope he stays because hes an honest hard working player with loads of talent . i like vassell and yakubu but we all know they will be injured at some point so i hope waghorn will get his chance and take it
Arkie Bennett Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 I heard Alan Young say on RL that Waggy's time will come this season, and I think he's right.
Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 Sven doesn't rate him, it's a similar situation to Fryatt. IMO his days here are numbered unless there happens to be an injury crisis and Sven is forced to give him a run in the team and he takes his opportunity. I feel for the guy, he was great for us last season but the person that made that team 'tick' isn't there now, and it's a huge change. Maybe he doesn't look good in training, he certainly doesn't look good pre match. Trust in Sven.
superfox1980 Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 Looks like he could be going out on loan according to the merc. Sven insisting he's not interested in selling Waghorn. Good move for me as long as it's a league 1 club and he get some much needed confidence back along with a few goals.
Leicfox Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 Sven-Goran Eriksson has admitted that Martyn Waghorn could be allowed out on loan, but insists the young striker still has a future at Leicester City.Waghorn has been unable to break into Eriksson's starting 11 this season, and the City boss revealed several clubs have expressed an interest in taking the 20-year-old on loan for the rest of the campaign. However, Eriksson said he is not looking to sell Waghorn, who signed permanently for City from Sunderland for £2million in August. The deal could potentially rise to £3m. "There were at least two clubs on Thursday who have called about taking him on loan," said City boss Eriksson. "We will see what happens over the next few days. "I am not very keen to allow him out on loan until we have Darius Vassell back from injury. Hopefully he will be back on Tuesday and we will see then. "I think Waghorn still has a future at the club. He wants to play football of course. He wants to score goals and he has had few opportunities, so I understand him. But we have never talked about selling him, only on loan. He is young and good. "His lack of opportunities might not be his fault, perhaps it is my fault because we have taken in other players." Waghorn is a big favourite with the Blue Army following his successful season-long loan from the Black Cats last season. He scored 12 goals in 43 appearances, and his permanent signing was well received. Despite his lack of first-team opportunities, Eriksson said Waghorn's honest qualities will ensure he remains a fans' favourite. "He will always be a favourite with the fans because his work-ethic is fantastic," he said. "He is always running and fighting for every ball. Every football fan wants to see that." Eriksson said there may be other players going out as well, including full-back Tom Kennedy who has just returned from a loan spell at former club Rochdale. "There might be some other players going out as well," he said. "Tom is likely to go out again, but we will see what happens." Eriksson admitted he did make an enquiry about Manchester United goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak, but has stressed he is only interested in recruiting a top-quality goalkeeper as he is happy with the performances of current No.1 Chris Weale. "Tomasz doesn't want to come to us," said Eriksson. "But I am only interested if he is a top, top keeper. The goalkeeper we have, Chris Weale, is doing very well for us so I am rather confident in him. "We are not going out to buy just a goalkeeper. It must be an absolute top keeper or we will stay with what we have. "I think the last few games Chris has played he has been brilliant for us."
JD+Fox Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 My first reaction was to sell sell sell... But only for 3 mill or above. Now im swaying more towards loaning him out to get his confidence up and some more first team experiance. Need to be careful who we loan him to though. Starting to remember some of the things he did for us last season. Pretty rare these days you get a player that cares enough to cry when you miss a penalty in the play offs. Especially since he was only on loan at the time.
Finnegan Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 You could see how much this club's season meant to him last year when Kermorgant fu**ed us in the arse. He broke down on the pitch. :[ To be fair, that might also be something to do with the fact that he put his own penalty at a fairly comfortable height for the keeper. But no, generally I agree.
Guest BlueBrett Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 Good decision Sven. Especially the bit about Weale.
sdb Posted 15 January 2011 Posted 15 January 2011 There will be times this season when we need Waghorn's energy and ability. Especially at the tail end of the campaign. Don't think letting him go would help us, the more i think about it, especially as it'll probably be to a play-off rival.
