Apparently Wigan took 48 fans to the Emirates today.

"YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS??"

I am genuinely in awe of that though, it's fooking shameful.

If thats true then they genuinely don't deserve to have a prem team. I don't care whether they've got to where they are on merit or not, 48 away fans is just a complete and utter joke.

lol I'm sure there would be a reason, a boycott maybe? I doubt you would only get 48 fans to one of the biggest away days of the season. Still a first rate tinpot effort though.

Rugby League town in the catchment area for lots of big football clubs. They're always gonna struggle to get numbers.

Although in their defence I can't imagine ticket prices will have done much to encourage them.

They can't even fill their own ground.

Why they're still in the Premier League, I just don't know...

Because fans don't get you points, players do and they have the players to get them enough points to stay up.

Once you accept the money men in football and who are we to be snotty about that then it matters not on how big your support is as to whether you make the PL or not.

Maybe some criticism should be directed at the PL and the clubs for pricing many fans out of the game not with standing the cost of travel these days.

I know.thumbsup.gif

It's just the fact that, even after five, six years of Premier League status, they still cannot attract more fans to their ground.

A poor excuse for a football club.

Wigan's support has hit it's zenith, they're never going to be any better supported. Once they do go down from the Premier League, it's very unlikely they'll ever be there again.

That said, they deserve to be in the division because of their efforts on the pitch, you can't just base it on fan numbers. If that were the case, Leeds, Derby, Forest, ourselves and the two Sheffield clubs would never have gone down.

Although ticket prices would have been high, Wigan dont deserve Premier league football. I want them to go down just for the shite attendances they get when a dozen Championship clubs could get far greater crowds than they do.

Having said that i dont really want them in our league either!

surely some sort of protest? does anyone know for sure? i know they have poor following but 48?! i like them as a team i have to say, but they'd be no great loss to the EPL all told.

Disgraceful they don't have enough fans and don't deserve a football club.

Right I'm going to the AFC Wimbledon thread now to wank off at their wonderfulness.

It's hardly Wigan's fault they suffer due to their location. Numerous RL teams, Man Utd, Man City, Liverpool, Everton, Bolton, Blackburn are all close to them and have had more success in the past years.

Like Bilo said, if the game was based on fans, the PL would look a lot different.

Fuckin' A.

I hate some people's double standards, I've never understood the AFC obsession. Just because I'm not in favour of the way MK Dons was created doesn't mean I think Wimbledon deserved to stay in business or have league status. Joke club.

Hartlepool took more to Bristol Rovers on Tuesday. Either 48 isn't correct or something else was going on, money, other clubs, distance etc, you'd still expect more than 48!

That said, to say they should go down because they took 48 fans to an away game is ridiculous.

If you supported Wigan, would you expect them to pick up a result at Arsenal - yes you get to see some good football from the opposition, but it's not one you'd savour is it? Most have probably saved there money for some big relagation battles that are to come.

This is what the hype around big games in the Premier and Champions League does. I remember when I religously watched Super Sunday every weekend and the Champions League group games - these days I hardly batter an eyelid, partly because Sky Sports have hyped up the big games so much I realise that these sub standard and not so important games don't really matter anymore!
