At a time when everyone was ranting about Gerrard and Lampard (who ARE both spectacularly over-hyped) it was great to see a player with some very good technical ballskills and a bit of flair. That goal against Sweden was one of the best I've ever seen and I mean that truly honestly.

(That might not make any sense to anyone, but I don't know how to re-phrase it!!) Ok, he's not worth the money that Aston Villa paid for him, but he's scored a fair amount of goals wherever he has been really. I know his spell at Tottenham wasn't exactly superb, but he was still top goalscorer in one of their season's. Overpriced: Yes

When he was younger he was one of the most naturally talented English players and had a hell of a lot of promise. Granted he's gone off the boil the last few years and never fulfilled his potential but people don't rave about him any more. = Not overrated.
