foxfanazer Posted 25 November 2012 Posted 25 November 2012 With the team playing good football and picking up points (most of the time) do we need to strengthen in the January transfer market or stick with what we've got? If we sign a couple of players could this disrupt the harmony in the dressing room or boost us further to really give this promotion push a shot? Thoughts please
KingPowerLCFC1884 Posted 25 November 2012 Posted 25 November 2012 the table by Christmas will tell us if we need to.
MGLCFC Posted 25 November 2012 Posted 25 November 2012 Forest made the mistake of not strengthening 2 seasons ago when they were second with several games in hand. Strengthen for me, another striker would be a useful acquisition as Beckford will leave and Vardy id struggling. That only leaves Waghorn and Nugent as in form strikers. Futacs is a useful foil to have, but I don't he is ready for leading the attack as yet.
Mark_w Posted 25 November 2012 Posted 25 November 2012 The last thing we need is an influx of new players while we're doing well, I'd be sceptical about any new signings if we're still doing as well as we are. But I'd trust Walsh and Pearson if they decided to bring in one or two new additions. Really don't think we need anyone at the moment though, we've got a good keeper, if Whitbread and Schlupp can keep up their recent form I can't see any reason to add in defence, the midfield is fine and I think Vardy and Waghorn have done well enough to suggest that they shouldn't be third and fourth choice. I imagine it's going to be a transfer window more about selling than bringing players in unless the situation changes between now and then.

Maybe only for goals as before his injury Vardy was down as the 16th best player in the Championship on all round contribution according to the official stats.
LCFC FOX Posted 25 November 2012 Posted 25 November 2012 Make Lingard permanent would be nice. But would love to sign Charlie Austin or Chris Wood.

Tommy G Posted 25 November 2012 Posted 25 November 2012 Another striker to give Nugent and Waghorn competition
Adster Posted 25 November 2012 Posted 25 November 2012 Make Lingard permanent would be nice. But would love to sign Charlie Austin or Chris Wood. On what Evidence can you use that Lingard should be signed permanently? He's had two sub appearances.
Babylon Posted 25 November 2012 Posted 25 November 2012 Pearson is no fool and understands harmony is important, but he won't be scared to strengthen if there is an opportunity to. I think with Leeds potentially having some money to play with we could find we get a few quid from them for some of our players out on loan that can be used to strengthen.
kingfox Posted 25 November 2012 Posted 25 November 2012 A striker and someone to replace Danns/Lingard(If we don't extend his loan)
cc_star Posted 25 November 2012 Posted 25 November 2012 NP will sign players that wouldn't disrupt the harmony, to join us they'd be choosing to buy into his ideas of teamwork and a close squad. I'd expect Beckford to be leaving on a permanent, Gallagher & Wellens too & probably Danns, but they'll involved paying off in some way. These departures are basically a forgone conclusion and won't have a detrimental impact on the squad or our continued progress. Hopefully that will free up enough finances to also bring us below FFP limits by enough for us to be able to bring a couple in to galvanise or improve our position depending where we are after December.
Leicesterpool Posted 25 November 2012 Posted 25 November 2012 A striker needed 100%, Vardy i've stuck up for him hundreds of times, trying to convince people to give him time but the last two performances I've seen him in, he's simply struggling. Futacs should be also given more playing time,
theessexfox Posted 25 November 2012 Posted 25 November 2012 A few weeks back we would have said left-back cover, but now I feel we're fine in that respect.
dpjfox Posted 25 November 2012 Posted 25 November 2012 The central midfield partenership of Drinkwater/King has proved to be our best combination and quite rightly NP has started them whenever possible but an injury/suspension to either and we may struggle to keep up the momentum, it seems Wellens/Danns are surplus (as Beckford) so i imagine those 2 areas will be strengthened should we lose a couple of squad members. It seems to me that NP knows the tyoe of character that will integrate with the others as all his signings seemed to have gelled (in Zaks case eventually)
Captain... Posted 25 November 2012 Posted 25 November 2012 We shouldn't make signings for the sake of it, but if Wellens, Danns, Gallagher and Beckford do all leave (hopefully for inflated January prices) we will be a little light on the ground. We need to be looking at 2 types of players, your young hungry talented players that will be happy to play a squad role for the rest of the season. Or Prem experienced 25+ year olds who will walk into the team and greatly improve what we have in the first team, a Yakubu type who could really fire us into the prem. I don't see Charlie Austin as the answer as good as he is at this level we need to be thinking about next season and we will need some prem experience in there.

Agreed we need a striker who could have the effect Roberts had at Reading towards the end of last season. Vardy needs to find himself again with a spell in League one, see if he can cut it there.
Dan Posted 25 November 2012 Posted 25 November 2012 Charlie Austin wouldn't be coming here anyway. I can see him going for a good £8mil at this rate.
Happy Fox Posted 25 November 2012 Posted 25 November 2012 I would seriously consider going for Chris Wood won't cost that much being rumored to leave for a £1m from WBA.
Guest Col city fan Posted 25 November 2012 Posted 25 November 2012 IMO the mistake Pearson made last January was to not strengthen the strike force. Although I think he tried with Sharp who ultimately chose The Saints. Beckford and Nuge had no partnership, despite rubbish to the contrary. This season it's harder to see where we need to strengthen. It's not rocket science... The key players make the rest tick. If Morgan, Drinkwater and/or Nuge get injured, we will be considerably weakened. But I guess it's hard to sign replacements of similar quality, just in case, so to speak. Therefore, this season I'd leave it alone. Unless we are to sign any players better than what we have already, and who 'fit' with the 'Pearson type player' I see little point at present. If pushed into an answer, I'd suggest a really good striker at this level, although Waggy looks to be getting better and better.
Dan Posted 25 November 2012 Posted 25 November 2012 I would seriously consider going for Chris Wood won't cost that much being rumored to leave for a £1m from WBA. If that's true I'd be straight in. He'd be literally the ideal signing.
ithuriel Posted 25 November 2012 Posted 25 November 2012 Strengthen if possible, how many times down the years have City played safe with the cash and then fallen away when in good positions to push on? Perhaps as many as we have spent loads of cash trying to reach good positions to fail miserably but it all depends on who is managing and we know Pearson usually does not waste cash.

Perhaps as many as we have spent loads of cash trying to reach good positions to fail miserably but it all depends on who is managing and we know Pearson usually does not waste cash. I can't think of many times in recent years we've been in a good position in January (or any other month) to push on, apart from NP's first spell, when we were in and around the play-offs and had no money, but still finished 5th. January is not a great time to buy players, prices are inflated, and at the moment there is no obvious glaring weakness in our starting 11 or on the bench, especially now Schlupp has staked his claim to the LB spot.
LCFC FOX Posted 25 November 2012 Posted 25 November 2012 On what Evidence can you use that Lingard should be signed permanently? He's had two sub appearances. Why wouldn't you? If Man Utd were willing to sell I would snap there hands off. A young potential who will be a class act.

So just because he's from Utd reserves he's promising? Great. Let's get Bebe too then while we're at it. LCFC FOX for manager.
