Alf Bentley Posted 23 March 2013 Posted 23 March 2013 I notice that Norwich City are reportedly buying one Ricky van Wolfswinkel: http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2892/transfer-zone/2013/03/22/3846893/norwich-city-to-sign-ricky-van-wolfswinkel-from-sporting Just wondered if anyone had any other good suggestions for the worst ever footballer's name? I'm sure our own Jeffrey Schlupp gets a few laughs from opposing fans, prospect though he is. Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink may or may not have had the longest name, but what is the worst? They'd still have to go some to outdo the worst ever name in pop music. Anyone remember "(You left me) just when I needed you most" by one Randy Van Warmer? Appalling, wimpy nonsense...and that name! I mean, RIP to the bloke and all that (he's died since), but I remember hearing that song during a rough period in about 1979 and thinking "Christ! I hope there's something better than this in life!" Fortunately there was.
Captain... Posted 23 March 2013 Posted 23 March 2013 Not a footballer but.... Haha Nimet Gashi, classic Junior Bent was always a favourite of mine from the past or the German from 96 Kuntz, I think there was and Austrian called Uwe Fuchs too.
21st Century Fox Posted 23 March 2013 Posted 23 March 2013 Ricardo's backup for Portugal... Joaquim "Quim"
THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 23 March 2013 Posted 23 March 2013 Martin Jol's brothers are called Cock and Dick and whenever I am in Amshterdam I call my penis "The Martin"
Danizen Posted 23 March 2013 Posted 23 March 2013 Some awful names in here. Anyone remember this joke from about a year ago? BBC SPORT: Kilmarnock interested in Belgian defender Mark de Man. Apparently, they are also interested in his compatriots, striker Skor de Gaulle and goalkeeper Bloek de Schott.
Cropwellfox Posted 23 March 2013 Posted 23 March 2013 Haha Nimet Gashi, classic Junior Bent was always a favourite of mine from the past or the German from 96 Kuntz, I think there was and Austrian called Uwe Fuchs too. Uwe Fuchs and Stefan Kuntz were the front two for Bielefeld in the Bundesliga in the late ish nineties... Best strike partnership ever?
Durnerz Posted 23 March 2013 Posted 23 March 2013 Christian Fuchs and a player who plays for MSV Duisburg who's last name is "****" Turkish I believe, very apt
shen Posted 24 March 2013 Posted 24 March 2013 Does the OP just generally think Dutch names are bad? Pierre van Hooijdonk, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Dick Advocaat etc?
The Horse's Mouth Posted 24 March 2013 Posted 24 March 2013 Does the OP just generally think Dutch names are bad? Pierre van Hooijdonk, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Dick Advocaat etc? Sounds racist amirite?
shen Posted 24 March 2013 Posted 24 March 2013 Sounds racist amirite? No, I just noticed that three of the four names he mentioned were pretty ordinary Dutch names. If anything could be interpreted as being a tinge racist, it's Durnerz' post just above.
