FoxesAreBlue Posted 18 May 2013 Posted 18 May 2013 I bodily remember an Aeroflot flight to Moscow which slammed into the Tarmac and bounced twice. I practically coughed up my heart and bollocks. Not to mention my spine which practically ripped out of the top of my back. Aeroflot? More like Aeroflop. When I run te Athens Marathon I'm flying with Aegean Airways (summat like that anyway) - it looks equally slap dash. Not looking forward to the flight.
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 18 May 2013 Posted 18 May 2013 It's great if you just need a short hop to Dublin at the lowest possible price, but you're often better off flying with the national airline from the country you're heading to.
jonthefox Posted 18 May 2013 Posted 18 May 2013 Try Alliance air who run internal flights in india. Truly terrifying.
leicsmac Posted 18 May 2013 Posted 18 May 2013 Can we turn this into a general 'terrifying airlines' thread then? I'm sure there are some great stories out there.
lavrentis Posted 18 May 2013 Author Posted 18 May 2013 When I flew from EMA I saw this old granny in a wheelchair getting patted down. Made me sick tbh, what happened to common sense. Old dear was only off to Spain for her hols
Guesty Posted 18 May 2013 Posted 18 May 2013 I've had some dodgy bouncy landings with Ryanair - like others have said you get what you pay for. Not worse landing ever which happened when 100 ft above ground we hit a pocket of turbulence and dropped 30ft in a split second and landed with a massive thud. ( I swear I thought I was going to die - that was American Airlines) Back to Ryanair - we once had a problem once when the person forgot to print of the boarding cards and we all got charged £40 each - fookin' nightmare. I'd only ever fly with them if it was a lads holiday and we had no suitcases.
Vacamion Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 I was on a Ryanair flight last week from Greece and there was a lady sitting in the opposite row of seats who bought EVERYTHING they were selling. She paid for a reserved seat, drinks, a sandwich, some perfume, a copy of Hello! magazine and two scratchcards. I bet the flight cost more than her accommodation.
RowlattsFox Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 Flew to Milan with Ryanair last year. No real problems other than losing a few contents out of our hand luggage, sun cream etc which was annoying. We were told plenty of times to remember to print your boarding cards off so if you don't then get charged then you've only got yourself to blame. Would use them again, but only if I didn't require much luggage.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 I've never had a bad flying experience yet and I've flown quite a bit- touch wood- though I've never flied with Ryanair yet will be doing so next month! The only time I remembered anything even remotely strange was when we were flying out to Basel for the England game. The plane was specially chartered for England fans using Jet 2. The pilot brought us down at such a steep descent I thought we were on the way into the drink!
lavrentis Posted 19 May 2013 Author Posted 19 May 2013 They aren't the worst airline I've flown with either. Step forward Alitalia for that honour. I have flown with Alitalia and thought they were pretty good. Short and Long haul both good, giving free food whilst on the flight and the flight attendants were punctual. Good airline.
fleckneymike Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 Balkan Airways, left hand side of the cabin smoking, right hand side non smoking. Inflight meal. 1 tomato, slice of cheese, plain youghurt. My tomato had mould on it.

Parafox Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 This may be utter bollocks and please correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard that pilots take some sort of exams to qualify at the end of their training, and Ryanair take the lowest pass mark out of all the western airlines? Easy Jet apparently only take the highest scorers. Just something a drunk guy told me once. Was he wearing a blue uniform with a badge saying "captain"?
AmericanScott Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 My girlfriend lived in Madrid last year for uni so i'd always visit as frequently as possible. Always used Ryanair from Stansted and i've never had a problem with them. Staff were always friendly, flights always on time, etc. Spoke to a pilot for Ryanair once and he said the wings on Ryanair jets are smaller so they can make more controlled landings and fit in to smaller airports. Worst airline for me is Air Europa. Went from Madrid to Barcelona with them and we were delayed longer than the flight actually took! The plane also looked like some kid had built it with mud and sticks.
Fox92 Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 Thats good then. I've got a 9 and a half hour flight with them in july. You're in safe hands with Monarch. I've been to Portugal 9 times, for most of that time, we flew with Monarch. Used to enjoy them. Virgin Atlantic are excellent, too. Free drinks onboard when I went to America!

Virgin Atlantic are excellent, too. Free drinks onboard when I went to America! Virgin Atlantic are the best airline I've flown with. Used them a couple of years ago when we went to Vegas, lots of legroom, staff very friendly. I wasn't too impressed with Emirates, heard a lot of good things about them but when I did use them we were quite disappointed.
Guest Bilo Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 Aye, Virgin Atlantic are very good for long haul flights. I'm a fan of British Airways as well. I flew Delta a couple of times and was somewhat unimpressed by the flight, but they did put me up in a very nice hotel when I missed a connecting flight due to a customs hold up so I can't complain too much.
DB11 Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 I flew with Delta to America last year and thought it was good. Good selection of films on, free drinks (including alcohol). Only downside was that they didn't have USB for me to charge my phone where I was sitting (front ten rows did but I was in the 27th or something)

Flown to America a couple of times with Virgin & a couple of times with British Airways. They both offered free drinks.....whisky for fun & wine with the meals. Virgin just wins it......better quality planes, better in-flight entertainment & better stewardesses. I've never had a problem with any of the economy airlines & actually enjoy the convenience of it all. Like catching a bus..........it turns up, everybody piles on, scramble for a decent seat & away you go!!
Fox in the North Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 I've flown to Sri Lanka with etihad, without doubt it offered the best in flight food I've ever had. I flew with Ryanair from Malaga to ema today, I survived!
separator Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 I've never flown with Easyjet or Ryanair but flew from East Midlands to Dublin back in 1999 with British Midland (as it was then). Cabin pressure failed crossing the Irish channel. Ears started popping and the cabin started filling with some sort of mist or smoke. Anyway, we carried on to Dublin but at a much lower altitude, Landed safely which was the main thing. Not the most comfortable of flights. When it comes to long haul I had great flights with Singapore and Thai airways. Used BA last year to south america which was also surprisingly good. Worst airline i've used was United, Charged $5 for headphones, when we took off in flight entertainment stopped working. 6 hour flight with nothing to watch.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 Flew on a red-eye direct from Honolulu to NYC on Delta; the flight was okay, apart from the fact that when I checked in they said that my seat "wasnt guaranteed". This caused some panic as I had to get from JFK to La Guardia to fly back to London just a few hours after. Luckily I did get on the flight, but I was on the back row and the seat didn't recline. I was also sat next to another English chap who was so posh it looked like it hurt and he wanted to talk to me the whole 11 hours. Luckily I bought a book in the airport so could do my best to ignore the pleasant, but annoying fellow. Nothing wrong with the actual flight though (I had heard some horror stories about Delta), internal flights are so common in the US, people use the, like taxis.
Jon the Hat Posted 19 May 2013 Posted 19 May 2013 Singapore airlines are my favourite airline. Emirates also I like mainly due to fond memories if 7 hours in the bar on an A380 from KL to Dubai. Nothing quite like it.
