davieG Posted 23 October 2013 Posted 23 October 2013 Sky Crystal Palace manager Ian Holloway has left the club after several rounds of crisis talks, according to Sky Sources. He is due to appear at a press conference in central London at 5.30pm with co-chairman Steve Parish and it is understood they will announce his departure. Holloway's position at the club has looked shaky since his side were beaten 4-1 by Fulham on Monday night. He was called in to talks with Parish after the game with further key discussions said also to have taken place on Tuesday. Palace have won just once in nine matches this season and remain second from bottom of the Premier League, five points from safety. Holloway took charge at the club just under a year ago and took into the Premier League but before the press conference was announced, Parish seemed to be planning for a return to the second tier. He said: "We've tried to get a squad that can keep us in this division, but also be a very strong squad in the Championship should the worst happen. "When you go down it's about what state you're in. You have to plan for both eventualities and we'll do our best to stay up. It might be about whether there are three worse teams."

Ric Flair Posted 23 October 2013 Posted 23 October 2013 I can see this happening to us if we ever go up, look at Southampton & Reading last season. Sacked their managers early on in to the season who had taken them up, luckily Southampton had built an innovative squad that stayed up under their new man but I think Adkins would have kept them up anyway. Reading were the pits to get rid of McDermott, seriously what more could he have done? Palace barely stood a chance of staying up and it doesn't matter who is in charge. They surprised everyone by going up in the first place and like Blackpool a few years back I can see them struggling to challenge for promotion repeatedly. So why get rid of him? He's got promoted twice in about 4 years which is as good, if not better than any other manager at this level even if he is a complete penis. Moronic.

Took them down the league since he has been there but got away with it thanks a play off system and showed no sign of building a side that can even compete let alone stay up in the Premier League.

I'm not just talking about Holloway, but we've seen many times (look at Southampton and Reading) that this happens. Don't really like Holloway for what happened here, but no doubt he'll get another job because he did well at getting Palace up (although the foundations were laid for him) and he did very, very well at Blackpool.

Why then not also stick with the manager who is the most likely to take them straight back up for another shot and build a side who can do it? Don't forget when he went down with Blackpool he got them in another PO final a year later.

They're already massively unsavable, obviously, but a chairman can't sit their in October and start thinking about who's going to get the promoted again next season when they've gone back down. But Holloway would probably be best for this division when they inevitably end up back here in a few months.

Can't think of anybody who'd be interested in the job? Possibly Pulis outside chance of luring Di Matteo.

His record with Palace wasn't great, and I think he made a massive mistake with buying loads of players in the summer, Crystal Palace have one if not the biggest squad in the Prem, have used the most players this season, how you going to keep them all happy, what was the point of buying some of those players. I'm probably one of a few Leicester fans, who actually still likes him, but all in all I think it was the right decision, he was speaking of stepping down anyway. Pulis or Zola for them I think.

Agree with most of this, he had the wrong team when he was here, tried to make an defensive style team play attacking football.
