dayday Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 I am still in the 50/50 camp.before we won the league one title,we had a little matter of playing MK Dons,we were losing 2-1but a equaliser from Gradel in the last kick of the game ,propelled us to believe we could actually believe we could reach our goal, still pleny of twist and turns yet
Monk Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 I think if you look at the teams in the automatics over the past few seasons, none of them have been world beaters but they all have the ability to score, hold a lead, and to be resilient and come from behind. This season we seem to have those qualities and a solid squad. There's a much more positive feeling around the club too compared to last year. I think we will do the distance and win the league fairly comfortably now, but I am prepared to eat my words - we are Leicester city after all.
Guest Col city fan Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 I said a few weeks ago () that there's nowhere on the pitch where we are particularly weak. There are some Championship sides I would swap players with. Eg. Nugent for Rhodes but I cant think of many. However, I remain cautious until a bit later in the season because of what happened last season. Not that I think we will capitulate like that again... but it kinda hurt. The boys are looking confident though I must admit.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 I believed we would get promoted last season and was given one big massive shit sandwich. So I'm not prepared to put my neck on the line again, even if the scenario is alot different there is still along way to go. My opinion on promotion will probably be concluded around March time.
Happy Fox Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 15 points clear of 7th, playoffs are guaranteed I would say even at this stage, it is going to take about 8 games for those sides to catch, up.

In reality it would be longer than that. Thats assuming that teams from 7th and below go on a run in those 8 games wielding an average of 2 points a game. Seeing as no one out of the top 6 currently is scoring more than 1.5pts per game, your probably looking at 9 or 10 games before anyone out of the top 6 caught us. Playoffs are already looking very good as a minimum.

But as we are only just past halfway we still have a long way to go. I believe that this manager/team/squad has what it takes to achieve promotion but because of what happened last season my optimism is combined with a certain amount of caution. Just hope we can remain consistent and I'm pretty sure we will be able do it.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 We do look like a promotion gaining side, or we wouldn't be where we are now, but we have to remember that there is still a long way to go. Memories of last season about this time last year, have hopefully instilled a determination for such a thing to not happen this season. We have a team who are playing far better football than last season. We need to grit our teeth, and maintain the high standards.we have implemented. There are still some fine teams chasing us, and we cannot afford to sit on our laurels, and hope they drop points. This is a job we have to do ourselves, Can we get automatic promotion this season. It;s going to be a long haul, but yes, I truly believe we can.
Paulmot Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 I'm sticking with my negative thoughts to the end. It's seems to be working. I realise now u are a reincarnation of an over optimistic poster who has gone the opposite way. There is a middle path to walk if you let the anger and disappointment go. On a serious note did u enjoy the Bolton game?
Tielemans63 Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 I still think a couple of quality additions in this window could make a world of difference down the line. The team are doing so well but it is a relatively small squad and come the business end of the season players will be knackered - I'm convinced that last season's slide was largely down to fatigue (we played at a crazy tempo for those first few months) so we need a few more decent options IMHO. A winger, another striker and a versatile full back would do nicely.

foxfanazer Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 We could do with a couple of clever additions and I trust Nige to do exactly that. He won't sign someone that doesn't fit the mould of the squad

Nigel mentioned that the other day about the squad failing to cope last seaon, pretty sure we will see some activity in this window byt i think it will be 2 players max unless a few are going out.
Lionheart Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 At the present time we are looking very much like a side who could get promoted.
harpendenfox Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 This four game winning streak is way beyond anyone's wildest imagination I'd suggest. We have the very good habit of winning, and have now won three more than anyone else. Being a Leicester fan there is no way I'm going to make overtly optimistic statements, but right now I'm thrilled to bits. We have a better chance than at anytime since our relegation nearly a decade ago. We must all keep reminding ourselves to take one game at time. Derby is our next cup final
Tielemans63 Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Nigel mentioned that the other day about the squad failing to cope last seaon, pretty sure we will see some activity in this window byt i think it will be 2 players max unless a few are going out. I think you're right mate. I just hope they're really decent quality additions. While you're strong it makes sense to strengthen.
FoxTrott Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 I think we do. We played a few fringe players today, still came away with 3 points. I am hesitant to say it, 20 years as a Leicester fan has taught me better. But I am feeling that this could be our season.
Finnaldo Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 I would settle for that Riyad Mahrez (Right Winger, we all know about him), Stevie May (Striker, aged 21, 55 goals in 74 games in the Scottish Third Division, First Division and Premier, with 11 goals in 19 games in the scot prem this year) and I'm not sure about the Full back. May and Mahrez (if the rumours are right) would cost probably under a million together and getting a Full back on the cheap would keep it around £1 million. If we can also offload Waghorm for around £500,000 then that would mean a net loss of about £500,000, which isn't shabby for three players.
fazzyfox Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 We do at the moment, I don't just mean the table but the overall feel is different, we have a sense of authority about us. There is usually a team that hasn't been in the mix that goes on a run soon and I feel it will be Wigan who could cut right through the pack and challenge us and QPR for the two places. I can see the unlucky one of the three plus Burnley, Derby and Forest making up the play offs. Reading and Leeds have managers who can take teams up (as have Ipswich) and Watford may steadily improve also Bournemouth could be dark horses for a play off place. You heard it here first! Fasten your seat belt for a nerve shredding part two of the season.
MPH Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 We're as close as we've been for a long time, but for me it's a no. I think we do have the players, and the manager is nearly good enough, but Pearson's inability to instill enough confidence to prevent us from falling apart whenever we get into a good league position and his regular infuriatingly incompetent team selections and tactics are why we won't be going up this season, and why he won't be here next. Comedy gold, moosey!
Finnaldo Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Last season and earlier this season I thought that we would struggle maintaining a top two place, seeing as before when we've gone top it only lasted one game where we promptly seemed to lose confidence and bottle it. I think the festive period has been crucial. I think the players who were previously intimidated by going top (as Nuge told us) have now turned it round to become a confidence boost. I'd probably put this down to the more experienced players, mostly Taylor-Fletcher who has added both quality and possibly even a positive mindset having been previously promoted. Now I can see us going forward and do see us as contestants for promotion come May.
haraven Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 With this latest run solid victories I can't really believe we're not geared up for promotion. We're packleaders. Alpha males of the Championship.
Durnerz Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 For me, we havn't yet hit our stride, there always seems to be another gear we can move to which is not necessarily a bad thing.Perhaps a new striker in January could give us the energy to get over the line, looking down the division there isn't a mass of quality as in past seasons, now is as good of a chance as ever we'll have, I just hope we can take it.
Corky Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Still think we've got more to offer at home, if we really click we could sweep teams aside. Show the required grit, determination and the added quality should come through in away games. Pearson won't get carried away and that is so important.
