Langston Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 Great win, if I'm nitpicking for negatives (and I'd really be nit-picking) I feel disappointed we didn't really cap this month by getting something from the "easier" games in the guise of Wednesday and Brighton. Still, we haven't lost the "mustn't lose" games and look to have bounced back immediately from the slight blip at the start of the month, beating a side unbeaten at home all season and doing a job against a notorious bogey side. Testament to the management and the players, fantastic. The thing about Derby is and im not taking anything from their run of 7 wins, but they were against Doncaster, Bournemouth, Sheff Wed, Charlton, 8 man Blackpool, Middlesbrough etc. Thats a good run but id be more impressed if a team took 7 from 9 against Burnley, QPR and Reading..... Yeah, Sheff Weds, Charlton and Donny are an easy nine points, aren't they? Oh, wait....
Tom17LCFC Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 Buzzing!! Delighted with that, top of the league!
lgfualol Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 Fooking hell!! Millwall sacked their manager! Just in time for us! Sheff Wed all over again! :xmassad: Oh ffs..
Langston Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 Doesn't matter if any side changes their manager, never bought into it - we are where we are for a reason and if we play as we can we'll beat them.
Matt Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 Oooh yeah, also, Waghorn, Impressed. Looked eager, point to prove, perhaps tried too hard, but i'd certainly be tempted to give him a chance over Nugent in his current form, although didn't think Nugent was that bad today.
Dan Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 That was a bit surreal really enjoyed today's game though. Thought it was actually a decent atmosphere. Once again I feel we could've had more. I love Dyer but he needs to learn a bit of composure in front of goal.
TrentFox Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 Excellent result against a good Reading side. They were fast, strong and organised and won't be far away at the end of the season - as long as they are behind us!! At times our attacking play was excellent. Shame we couldn't convert one or two more of those chances, but a very pleasing performance in the main. If we are going to add anyone to the squad, please let it be a first-choice striker. Nuge and Vardy have lots of strengths, but would love it if we had one player that could displace one of them.

Once again I feel we could've had more. I love Dyer but he needs to learn a bit of composure in front of goal. If he had composure in front of goal he would have been at a top 10 club years ago. Such acceleration, ive not seen a full back he can't beat.
Wink Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 Oooh yeah, also, Waghorn, Impressed. Looked eager, point to prove, perhaps tried too hard, but i'd certainly be tempted to give him a chance over Nugent in his current form, although didn't think Nugent was that bad today. I thought his shot that went out for a throw in was class too On a serious note he did score the peno that won the game
Wink Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 Good win, controlled the game for large periods. Another clean sheet and not too much threat from Reading. My only worry is we will get punished in some games along the way if we can't take our chances. We're not clinical enough in front of goal, and that's our weakness ATM. We need to kill games off when we're on top, if we can do that then we will be flying!!
Corky Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 Just wish we could combine the first 11/12 home games of last season with our away form this- very similar in terms of results but with larger wins which would improve the goal difference hugely. Still, hopefully goal difference won't be an issue at all
Beliall Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 not something to be said very often... *whispers I hope forest win.
Devonfox1884 Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 Thought Waghorn was gash He didn't do anything wrong... Saying that, he didn't do anything great. Mediocre from him today.
Babylon Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 Oooh yeah, also, Waghorn, Impressed. Looked eager, point to prove, perhaps tried too hard, but i'd certainly be tempted to give him a chance over Nugent in his current form, although didn't think Nugent was that bad today. Thought Waghorn was an embarrassment to himself, up there with Schlupp's shite showing last week.
MGLCFC Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 It just made me realise that Waghorn isn't up to being our fourth striker and we need to invest in a bit of quality in Jan IMO.
Captain... Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 Really enjoyed the game, we dominated Reading for most of it, really good to see the ball shipped forwards quickly and effectively on the counter attack, not seen that too much in recent years, just a shame we couldn't finish off any of those chances, but we got in behind them about 10 times. There really wasn't a weak link in the side today, a lot of energy in closing them down limiting their space, solid in the air. When we had the ball we were looking for the quick breaks when they were on, but able to switch to nice patient build up play and work an opening. Only negative from the match was the wastefulness and poor decision making in their area. Whenever we should have shot we seemed to pull it back and pick out a man, when ever we should have looked for the pull back, we had a shot. You could also say it just didn't drop for us at times, getting caught under feet, or just having to stretch to make the shot. Can anyone tell me what happened after Knocky beat a coulpe of players and got into the box in the second half and was bearing down on the keeper, probably a yard away from him, I thought he must score, but the ball ended up out for a throw in on the far side about half way up their half. Did he try and cross it? Did he spoon his shot? Or did I just not see it hit the woodwork (I was in the kop behind that goal.)
Guest Col city fan Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 For fooks sake! And I get knocked for being sometimes negative! Waghorn was introduced into a game where Reading were pressing to equalise. He's not played in our team for months and he had precious little to feed off. Give him a chance.. Fair play, judge him after a couple of starts.. not after only 20 minutes of being in a game that was a quick one to jump into.
Captain... Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 Don't see what Waghorn did wrong, a couple of poor touches when he came on, but other than that, he won the ball a coulpe of times, ran with it, there was some decent link up play, created a chance for Vardy, one wild shot. I'm not going to judge him on one poor shot when the rest of the team were woeful in front of goal today. He didn't make a case for starting, but was good to see him back, and that we have options.
Bert Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 Played well throughout the first half and looked dangerous on the counter when we were soaking it up second. Another solid team performance.

Some people can't do anything right
dynamark Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 to be fair waggy was just fresh legs for nugent.Wood would(get that)be in if he was available. Enjoyed the game but they threatened from the many set pieces they won/bought.Good effort all round
Daz93 Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 Great win. Thought first half we passed it about well and were well worth our lead. Did a good job of closing the game out in the second and but for some very poor finishing could have scored more. Need some target practice I think! Wasn't particularly impressed with Reading as a team, but with players like Drenthe, Guthrie, Sharp, Pogrebnyak, Le Fondre they should be doing better. Good to come out of three difficult games with 7 points, now just a win against Bolton and we'll be looking good going into the New Year.

As much as Leicester were good, Reading were bad. I cant recollect them making a clear cut chance. I agree they'll be up there at the end but I expected them to be much better.
