Happy Fox Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 Leicester City 1 Doncaster Rovers 1, City need a win to claim the title. It's the 93rd minute, Alan. Nugent comes off for Kevin Phillips, right decision Alan? No. I think we can safely say it's the play-offs, Ian. If only Danny Moore had converted that header. Dyer wins a corner. Ker-Nockaert is heading to the corner flag, Kasper's heading up. Ker-Nockaert takes the corner, whips it into the middles of the box to Phillips. Right footed, IT'S THEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEE Just a slight amendment.
Danno Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 Leicester City 1 Doncaster Rovers 1, City need a win to go up to the Premier League. It's the 93rd minute, Alan. Ker-Nockaert is heading to the corner flag, Kasper's heading up. Ker-Nockaert takes the corner, whips it into the middles of the box to Phillips. Out Foxed Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 low risk, high reward. won't rock the boat, experienced and a clinical finisher in the box. doesn't hurt he knows what's necessary to get promotion.
Harry - LCFC Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 If he only scores two or three goals in his limited time on the pitch it'll have been a successful signing IMO.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 With 21 games left if he can get 5 goals for us then he will have been a very worthwhile signing as he'll be a 1 in 4 man without being a starter. That should be a reasonable target for him if he can stay injury free and if we keep playing as we have been. When this was rumoured I said that this is a no-risk signing. Guy who's been promoted out of this league numerous times, has a great goal record, only wants a 5 month contract and already knows the management, wants to sign for you?! Absolute no-brainer.
Mark_from_USA Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 Leicester City 1 Brighton 1, City need a win to seal automatic promotion, then they can kick back for the last 5 games It's the 93rd minute, Alan. Nugent comes off for Kevin Phillips, right decision Alan? No. I think we can safely say we'll have to wait another match, Ian. If only Moore had converted that header. Dyer wins a corner. Ker-Nockaert is heading to the corner flag, Kasper's heading up. Ker-Nockaert takes the corner, whips it into the middles of the box to Phillips. Right footed, IT'S THEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEE Amended it for you. I don't like your scenario - too pessimistic!
Guest ttfn Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 I'd be surprised if he gets more than 250 minutes on the pitch between now and the end of the season (just under 3 games, maths fans). With that in mind, any more than 3 goals would be brilliant. If he can grab one winning goal for us he'll have been worth it
kingfox Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 My Dad was saying for years, why aren't we in for Kevin Phillips everytime he left a club - WBA, Birmingham & Blackpool. We've now got him, all of 5-10 years too late; however this is still a good little signing. Pearson was never going to bring in another starter, because there would be no way he would drop Vardy & Nugent, and if one of them was to ever get suspended or injured, he would start Wood. But with Phillips he adds experience, he's had promotions under his belt, and is capable of chipping in with a goal off the bench. Some people won't be that excited, but like Wasyl & Fatty Fletch it's a shrewd signing.
howlinmadmurfdoc Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 I have no idea who Kevin PETERSON is.... Pieterson on the other hand.... :-) All these Kevins, I believe the cricketer your referring to is Kevin Pietersen!!

lgfualol Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 Welcome to Leicester! Hopefully he reads this, though he might be too old to work computers.
Guest Bilo Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 I can't wait for the testimonial for his 50th anniversary.
Kitchandro Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 I can't wait for the testimonial for his 50th anniversary. That's his grandson.
5waller5 Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 Chris Powell is our oldest ever player (to play in a match) at 40 years and 200 days. KP is currently 40 years, 174 days. Edit: I lied. Joe Calvert (back in 1947) was 40 years and 313 days. Chris Powell was oldest debutant at 38 years and 354 days, according to Wiki. How old was Kevin Pressman?? That's who sprung to my mind as the oldest debutant.
5waller5 Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 Great signing, won't cost us much as a free agent and will give us genuine cover upfront until the end of the season. Then when (ok if) we're promoted we go and get someone better without having to offload. Can't see any negatives ..... he could even make a good addition to the forward coaching.

Totally agree Waller, also think he'll be great for banter and further heighten our already tremendous team spirit. You were right first time bud it's WHEN.
A fox for life Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 amazing . . . i've just read on Wiki that he came through Southampton's Academy. they seriously know who to nurture them there Amongst the players who passed through the Saints Academy and went on to represent their country are: Chris Baird Gareth Bale Leon Best Dexter Blackstock Wayne Bridge Arron Davies Adam Lallana Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Tim Sparv Jake Thomson Theo Walcott In the past, prior to the establishment of the academy, the Southampton youth system has produced other international players, such as Terry Paine, Mick Channon, Matthew Le Tissier and Alan Shearer.
Arriba Los Zorros Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 Not a fan of him and don't think he fits our style, but I suppose it can't do any harm. As long as he doesn't get much time. Meh.
iamafox Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 I've always admired Phillips as a player. It's never too late to retire from football if you still have the hunger and desire to keep playing and score goals. He deserves respect for that.
MGLCFC Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 Not a fan of him and don't think he fits our style, but I suppose it can't do any harm. As long as he doesn't get much time. Meh. He may not fit our style, but when our style comes unstuck like it did against Forest and Leeds earlier in the season, he is the type of player who will create an opportunity from nothing and get you something out of the game. Would have loved him to come on for the last 20 minutes against Burnley and all those away games where we lost by the odd goal. Great scoring record at the highest level - if Giggs can still perform in the Prem, then Phillips will be more than capable of doing the business in the Championship. I hope we don't see much of him too, because that will mean our first choice strikers are doing their job, but it's reassuring having him on the bench just in case they are faltering. I've got more confidence in Phillips changing a game if needed, than Waghorn.
dmayne7 Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 I have no idea who Kevin PETERSON is.... Pieterson on the other hand.... :-) The irony is too much! Pietersen!
LCCFox96 Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 I have had my doubts about KP being the man for us at 40 years old and whether or not we could have done better with signing a striker this month. I don't see any point continuing those comments now he's our player and I hope I'm left eating my words. Here's to some last minute, match winning strikes. Hopefully he will stay on as a coach too. Welcome KP.
Guest Bilo Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 Anyone thinking he's being touted as a player signed to score 20 between now an May is missing the point. I think this is very much like the Chris Powell signing in NP's first tenure; he'll offer a calm head and another option from the bench, but he'll mainly be employed to be a 'good head' around the training ground and move into coaching. I cannot see this signing doing any harm at all, and he seems to still know where the goal is.
Mickey O'Neil Posted 15 January 2014 Posted 15 January 2014 I can't believe some of the negativity surrounding this. Seriously...look at yourselves. We seriously went off the boil last year and limped into the play-offs ...just. We desperately needed a bit of experience last year to help in those games where we went for weeks without a win. If you think we are going buy younger strikers like Ings at this time of the season then you're all madder than I thought. *IF* we'd just been promoted then I'd understand the moaning and sniping a certain degree more. You all seem to forget that we haven't done anything yet. We might not. And we are not even got to FFP yet! Just a reminder of how this usually works..clubs sign older, experienced players to see them over the finishing line. These players then get moved aside and those clubs who just miss out on promotion, lose their star players like Ings to the teams that have just gone up or those teams that scraped staying up. Finally, as for Phillips starting against Leeds, he may well just do so. Who knows? We had to shuffle the team for Millwall to combat their thuggish players. It might be a similar scenario for Leeds. We know they're going to try to stop us playing. Oh, and if we do lose, don't come back to me giving it the big one and saying crap like 'why was the team changed?' It's GTF's/KP's fault because they are old.
