Finnaldo Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 Going to repeat what I said in the post match thread. Phillips our best player when coming on. Got himself in great positions, held the ball up well, use his experience to set up Kingy and for the goal. Certainly going to be very important! This. Holding the ball up, good passing and as you said two good set-ups. Looks like he could be a very good asset.
ozleicester Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 He rubbish.. he completely missed that ball into the box tonight, just as well Nuge was there to finish it
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 Loved him kicking the ball into the stands after Nugent's foul to kill time and make sure Leeds couldn't take a quick free kick. You can't beat experience.
Corky Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 Improved our threat when he came on, played sensibly.
Guest shearfox Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 Improved our threat when he came on, played sensibly.showed his experience, the little run for Nuges goal just showed how intelligent of a striker he is...
The Horse's Mouth Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 I must admit he really surprised me when he came on. "He's still got it" sort of thing, should be interesting to see how he settles in but he's made a good first impression.
Guest Col city fan Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 Played very well today I thought. And I think it was a Phillips dummy that led to Nugent's goal? Just a few minutes in and you can see just what quality Phillips was in his pomp.
Guest ttfn Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 Improved our threat when he came on, played sensibly. "Sensibly" is exactly the right word and exactly what we needed.
Guest Bilo Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 The experience he brings will be invaluable. I've said it before and will say it again, he's very much a Chris Powell type signing. Huge experience, intelligent and a good man to have around the training ground. The groans from the Elland Road were audible as he was warming up, he certainly comes with a reputation even at 40.
woddyuk Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 He'll play till he dies He'll play till he dies Kevin Phillips He'll play till he dies! That has just GOT to his song
Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 Loved the Sky commentators description; 'You can't buy that type of experience, but you can sign it on a 5 month deal til the end of the season.'
Happy Fox Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 Needed him and he certainly helped us win the game that is why we brought him in because of his ability to effect games in which we are drawing or potentially losing.
cityfanlee23 Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 Needed him and he certainly helped us win the game that is why we brought him in because of his ability to effect games in which we are drawing or potentially losing. He was only on the pitch a few mins and he was more involved than some players on the pitch for 90! His positioning was very good for he brief spell I saw him and his movement for our goal was top notch, without him there nuge would of had a keeper and 2 defenders on him ... Instead paddy saw Phillips go towards the ball and stayed on his line... Then when Phillips ran forward with the summer he dragged a defender away and it was nuge vs a poorly positioned paddy... Credit for nuge for battling through and of course the finish Up the foxes!!!
yorkie1999 Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 At least Dyer will be alright for cadging a lift home now.
Happy Fox Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 At least Dyer will be alright for cadging a lift home now. and Shakespeare.
dayday Posted 18 January 2014 Posted 18 January 2014 I think his presence alone on the pitch unsettles defences.

Powell was a great player/coach, I'm feeling Phillips is going to make an impact on match day and just as importantly through the week at the training ground with some good talent to bring on in Vardy and Wood plus the development boys, proper professional and been there, done it and has to be listened to and respected

davieG Posted 22 January 2014 Posted 22 January 2014 Kevin Phillips admits joining Leicester City may convince him to extend his playing career By Leicester Mercury | Posted: January 22, 2014 Fit and healthy: Kevin Phillips during his City debut against Leeds Comments (1)Kevin Phillips admits joining Leicester City may convince him to extend his playing career. The 40-year-old has joined City on a short-term contract until the end of the season and has said he is 99 per cent sure he will retire. However, manager Nigel Pearson has admitted he would like to convince Phillips to stay on as a player-coach, while the striker said being among the excitement of City's promotion push has reminded him how much he will miss playing. "I will review it," said Phillips. "Let's see how the rest of the season goes. "It is getting harder and harder. It doesn't get any easier. "You never say never in football. If things were to go well here and I feel good in the summer and I look after myself again, then who knows. "I don't want it to end. People keep saying how you are a long time retired, which you are. The closer it is coming, I don't want it to end. "That makes me work even harder. Even when I am not at the trainingground, I am working at home to keep myself in tip-top shape. When it finishes, it finishes." Phillips has been able to extend his career so well through managing his ownrecovery after games and tailoring training to how he feels. However, he admits it gets tougher as he gets older and says the joy of playing drives him on. "When I have a tough session now, it probably takes me one or two days more than others to recover, which is natural when you get older," he said. "Even when you have hangovers, it affects how long it takes to get over it – not that I have many of those. "It is just a natural process of getting older but the last few managers have been brilliant with me, giving me extra days off. "I pretty much know what my body needs. The manager is pretty lenient here and he will let me get on with what I need to do to be ready. "Chasing promotion is fantastic and the buzz of it is incredible. I never get tired of it. I am so excited now about this run-in. "There are going to be twists and turns towards the end of the season. "We hope there won't be, but there will be a loss of form and it is how you react and bounce back which makes teams stronger. "If it was all plain sailing it would be boring. Having said that, it would be nice to run away with it." Read more: http://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/Kevin-Phillips-admits-joining-Leicester-City/story-20476478-detail/story.html#ixzz2r7ZFdbuL
KFS Posted 22 January 2014 Posted 22 January 2014 Come on Kev, just hang the boots up at the end of this season and be a coach at Leicester
Dan Posted 22 January 2014 Posted 22 January 2014 You've got to admire him really. Genuinely breathes the game. Right type of character to have about.
Harry - LCFC Posted 22 January 2014 Posted 22 January 2014 Passion really comes through in his words. Sounds like he'd keep playing forever if he could.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 22 January 2014 Posted 22 January 2014 Looked good for the short time he was on against Leeds, his general movement in and around the area creates opportunities for himself and his teammates. Would love him to chose to stay on has a coach.
