ealingfox Posted 21 January 2014 Posted 21 January 2014 Occurred to me last night that what is now our accepted first XI contains 8 English players (7 if you want to insist Morgan is Jamaican), with plenty more in reserve. Should we not be getting a bit more bumming from the media for this?
StanSP Posted 21 January 2014 Posted 21 January 2014 Our total squad value has just jumped up by £80m.
AmyLGK Posted 21 January 2014 Posted 21 January 2014 How does this compare to other teams in the Championship?
Poznan34 Posted 21 January 2014 Posted 21 January 2014 When (If) we get to the Prem it'll get more notice, if we still have a majority of English players.
glenny_fox Posted 21 January 2014 Posted 21 January 2014 Not until we are in the premiership. i think that the majority of Championship clubs have mainly English players (only a guess).
C-man Posted 21 January 2014 Posted 21 January 2014 Not until we are in the premiership. i think that the majority of Championship clubs have mainly English players (only a guess). Burnley and Blackburn have entirely British first X1s apparently. Fairly commendable.
Mark_w Posted 21 January 2014 Posted 21 January 2014 Burnley and Blackburn have entirely British first X1s apparently. Fairly commendable. Think I'm right in saying that Zak Whitbread is the only player in Derby's squad from outside the British Isles.
Dan Posted 21 January 2014 Posted 21 January 2014 Bumming for that? It's disgraceful. I think we should fill our squad with average foreign players just to fit in with the stereotypical modern way of going about things. I hope we sack Pearson and replace him with Pedro Mediocra if we go up as he's obviously a step up
????? Posted 21 January 2014 Posted 21 January 2014 Just looked at it and going from the last starting XI's from the championship (18/01/2014) we are just above average, average being 7 English players per team. Table looks like this: Bournmouth - 9 Charlton - 9 Derby - 9 Blackburn - 8 Bolton -8 Huddersfield - 8 Ipswich - 8 Leeds - 8 Leicester - 8 Nottingham forest - 8 Queens Park Rangers - 8 Barnsley - 7 Birmingham - 7 Blackpool - 7 Burnley - 7 Reading - 7 Yeovil - 7 Doncaster - 6 Wigan - 6 Millwall - 5 Sheffield Wednesday - 5 Middlesbrough - 4 Brighton - 3 Watford - 3 165 English players out of a possible 264 at the weekend.
Haydos Posted 21 January 2014 Posted 21 January 2014 Schmeichel and De Laet are basically English as well

How have QPR come out with 8!!!

Vlad the Fox Posted 21 January 2014 Posted 21 January 2014 I saw the thread title and thought it was going to be about billy davies employing all his family and friends at North Korea (f****t).
Guest Sharpe's Fox Posted 21 January 2014 Posted 21 January 2014 Schmeichel and De Laet are basically English as well I love that beautiful Euro-Manc accent they both have.
ramadaone Posted 21 January 2014 Posted 21 January 2014 Simple explanation 30 years ago most of these English players would have been playing in the top flight. Now with all the "better" imports from abroad they are playing in the next rung down. Wether you think English football is in a better state than 30 years ago is another debate

Watford last? Surely not! Great group of hard working English lads..surprised Wednesday are so low down the table considering they were in league 1 two years ago. You tend to think that the lower you go in English football the fewer foreigners there are right?
Aus Fox Posted 22 January 2014 Posted 22 January 2014 How have QPR come out with 8!!! I think they have 8 or so who have played for England in the last few years
Super_horns Posted 22 January 2014 Posted 22 January 2014 Watford last? Surely not! Great group of hard working English lads.. Ironically one of the 3 in McGugan is probably the laziest of any player in our squad! Forest fans did warn us TBF. He wasn't playing anyway but Doyley usually does - he's British born but plays for Jamaica - which way does that count? Maybe it explains why SW seem to have not as many as you'd think?
Jace Posted 22 January 2014 Posted 22 January 2014 Good job penalties don't count in the Championship
Dan Posted 22 January 2014 Posted 22 January 2014 How have QPR come out with 8!!! Redknapp signs his old mates from Spurs/Pompey that's why.
