Kasper Vs England

Recommended Posts

I was wondering what people's thoughts on Kasper potentially playing against England tomorrow are? With the whole contract situation, a good display could really put him in the window for a lot of clubs. Which I don't want to happen, but I also don't want him to have a bad game. I realise that most people don't really care about the national team a huge amount these days, but personally I'd like England to win without Kasper conceding... somehow?

Personally I want to see anyone that is contracted to us put on a good show. If we go up then with what he's said about how much he enjoys it here I would personally be surprised and a bit disappointed if we didn't manage to get him to sign a new contract.

Him having a good game tomorrow will have very little bearing on whether he leaves or not. Any club who would be interested will be well aware of his contract situation. I imagine if we get promoted we might stand a chance of keeping him - after all, he'd be a first choice Premier League keeper - but he'll still have offers if he fancies going somewhere else.

TBH, I'm not even sure if he'll get a game tomorrow night anyway.

I think there's enough attention on him as it is and this friendly probably won't have much of a bearing.

But I hope he does play and does put on a good show.

I'd rather he puts on a good show and as it is only a friendly, I'm not fussed about if England win or not.

The national coach Morten Olsen always seems to pick Stephan Andersen from the MASSIVE Dutch club "Go Ahead Eagles"...........

I would be very surprised if Kasper starts in goal tomorrow. In Denmark most fans regard him as by far the best keeper in the country and it is a mystery

why Olsen doesn´t use him. Apparently he is the only keeper playing regularly at a high level although the Championship in Olsens opinion might not be "high enough".

Actually Olsen played with Schmeichel "the older" so maybe there are issues that require pay-back time now :giggle:  :giggle:  :giggle:  :giggle:

I suppose both Lindegaard & Sørensen can't get into the team due to lack of playing time, right?

Is it really bad that I care more about Schmeichel playing well than the whole England team? What are your feelings on national team loyalty. How bothered are you? It's the whole club vs country debate... Is it wrong to care more about the club?

I couldn't give less of a shit about the latest 11 out of touch millionaires Roy Hodgson's assembled to put in a half-arsed performance in an England shirt.

There's absolutely no debate when it comes to club vs country for me, I'd much much much rather see Leicester win an FA Cup or compete in Europe than England win a trophy.

I think I'm in the minority looking forward to the game. Being an Englishman in Denmark adds a bit of extra spice to it! I hope Kasper plays and shows Olsen that he should be no.1 for Denmark. That said, I'd be heartbroken if fat Wazza throws a mardy and stamps on his hand sidelining him for a few games :(

Well that should actually be the case however many players in the Danish national side are "back benchers"....... a certain Arsenal player being one of them, so with Olsen you actually never know. Lindegaard is not as far as I know picked at all and neither is Sørensen who is past it anyway.

thats a tough choice but i think i would have to go for an england trophy (only just). Be very lucky for football fans to experience a world cup or euro win in our lifetime (Unless you were alive for 1966). Leicester have won trophies and had a european journey (very short one) before so now i want to experience the whole nation celebrating an england trophy win

I'd like to see him play well but I don't think he'll play! Daniel Sturridge is guaranteed a goal, he's on fire!

Would love him to start tomorrow but I don't think he will. Seems he never gets a chance and I don't see why considering he's played consistently well for us.

If Kasper plays i'll probably be cheering on the Danes - or at least hoping for a 0-0.

Over the years my interest in England has waned. England is now more of a 'brand' than a group of players representing the Fans. Watching England is like watching a Nike advert these days... I feel absolutely no connection with people like David Beckham, Frank Lampard, John Terry or Ashley Cole. They are 'superstars' and good luck to them. But if you don't care about the players in your team, then it's quite hard to support them.

Last time I felt anything for England was when I saw Scott Parker crying during the national anthem when he'd been made captain. Unfortunately, as soon as Lampard was fit he replaced Parker - most probably because Umbro wanted Lampard back in the team as he promotes the brand and sells more replica shirts than Parker.

Conversely, people like Liam Moore, Andy King and Jamie Vardy I want to see do well. Probably just because I've followed their ups and downs over the years and feel more of a connection to them.

I'll probably change my tune come the World Cup. But for now, COME ON YOU DANISH PASTRIIIEESSSSS...

i agree with you there, im a tournament fan, dont give a crap about england for 24 months then love them for a couple of weeks

I'm just so indifferent to the national team, that's why I was curious about other peoples thoughts. I don't want them to fail, but at the same time I'm not at all bothered when they do, whereas I'll always want one of our players to do well regardless of who they're playing. It'd be different if it was an outfield player facing them I think, but the keeper will take the blame for the goals 9 times out of 10. It'll be an interesting watch I reckon.

I get your point but none of those really play anymore!

Olsen has just said prior to this game that the battle for the goalkeeper spot is 'wide open'. Already during the WC qualifying campaign he reiterated that the goalies he had at his disposal were at a very similar level (which I don't really think you can argue against). You also seem to forget that Kasper played our final game against Malta.

I do not know where you have this 'most Danes think' Kasper is the best keeper. I'd be very surprised if more than a select minority have actually watched any of his games for Leicester. Stephan Andersen has been an apt servant to the national team and IMO outperformed Sørensen, our undisputable #1 at the time, during the qualifiers for Euro 2012. It's Andersens consistent and reliable performances along with his many years of experience in and around the national team that means he's been Olsens preferred choice. A decision I for one fully understand and support.

The situation has changed now with Andersen not getting any playing time in either Evian or Betis and thus ending up at a poor Dutch club, which will only pave the way for Schmeichel whom Olsen OBVIOUSLY sees as the long-term solution.

I suppose both Lindegaard & Sørensen can't get into the team due to lack of playing time, right?

Sørensen retired from the national team after the Euros in 2012. Lindegaard is constantly injured and is now definitely out of the picture in Manchester.

Well that should actually be the case however many players in the Danish national side are "back benchers"....... a certain Arsenal player being one of them, so with Olsen you actually never know. Lindegaard is not as far as I know picked at all and neither is Sørensen who is past it anyway.

Those are the conditions of the Danish national team. I don't see how you can argue with the selection of Bendtner, (if this is indeed what you do). His record for the national team is just superb. Not only that, but his absence/quarantine (which Olsen imposed himself, remember?) highlighted how DESPERATELY short we are of quality strikers. The only one coming anywhere near his level was rookie Cornelius, who subsequently got injured for a long spell and more recently flopped totally at Cardiff. Bendtner gets recalled and hey presto, on his first appearance he scores two world-class headers against Italy and puts us within a whisker of the playoffs.

I'm getting very tired of defending Olsen in my home country. I can understand some of the frustrations people have with him, he's not perfect. But I strongly argue that he gets the overwhelming majority of his calls right. Danish football fans just seem to have unrealistic expectations when it comes to the national team. Something about that rings quite familiar....
