Recommended Posts

Aren't there trees and stuff in the middle of High Street?

Was and Morgan will clear those.

Leicester City will #starttheparty on Bank Holiday Monday 5 May with an open-top bus parade around the city centre to toast their title-winning side.
Thousands of members of the Blue Army are expected to flood the streets as City’s stars proudly parade the Championship trophy along the route, which will come to a climax at the Town Hall Square.

All supporters are invited to join in the celebrations with City manager Nigel Pearson and his players, who ended the Club’s 10-year absence from the Premier League with a record-breaking promotion season.

The action will get underway on High Street at 2pm (subject to change), when two open-top buses, led by the players with the Championship trophy, share the celebrations with supporters lining the route.

The open-top bus parade is to stop at the following places en route to the Town Hall Square:

- High Street – 2pm*
- High Street (Shires Lane junction)
- Clock Tower
- Gallowtree Gate (outside Visit Leicester shop)
- Town Hall Square 2.30pm*

This season’s title is a historic seventh in the second tier for the Foxes, and there will be plenty of opportunities for City fans to enjoy the celebrations along the route, before the players and staff disembark at the Town Hall Square.

They will then take centre stage on a specially constructed platform to continue the celebrations with the Blue Army, before the afternoon’s festivities come to an end at 3pm.

Half the players will want to leave if they take them around some parts of Leicester.

always amazed at dudes on the forum running down Leicester. If you support LCFC you should support Leicester. End of.

I'm proud to be from this county, but I can't deny the place is a dump. A charming, but smelly dump.

where else would you have it - st Margarets bus station? outside the Cardinal tower block on Humberstone Road?

The best one finished on Victoria Park, plenty of space, no obstacles, no danger to anyone but I guess the Mayor would be sidelined more.

Preparations are under way for Leicester City's open-top bus tour on bank holiday Monday.

Thousands of people are expected to line the route of the tour to celebrate the club's promotion to the Premier League and winning the Championship.

The parade starts in High Street shortly after 2pm and will continue along East Gates, past the Clock Tower, along Gallowtree Gate, Granby Street and Bishop Street to Town Hall Square, where it is due to arrive at around 2.30pm.

People are being encouraged to line the parade route to welcome the bus on its journey.

It will stop for five minutes at Shires Lane, in High Street, the Clock Tower and at the Visit Leicester shop in Gallowtree Gate.

Entertainment on the Town Hall Square stage will begin at around 12 noon, before Leicester City players, managericon1.png Nigel Pearson and the Championship trophy arrive at around 2.30pm.

No alcohol is allowed in Town Hall Square.

A spokesperson for Leicester City Council said an area of the square will be set aside for wheelchair users on a first-come first-served basis. Additional areas for disabled people will be provided at the Clock Tower - next to the sporting statue - and outside the Visit Leicester shop in Gallowtree Gate.

After the celebrations, the buses will leave the city centre via Granby Street and Northampton Street at around 3pm.

Road closures

Leicester City Council has said restrictions will be in place from 6am on Monday in Granby Street, Northampton Street, Northampton Square, Bishop Street, Every Street, Horsefair Street and Bowling Green Street. Waiting, loading and unloading will be prohibited until 6pm.

Bishop Street, Horsefair Street and Every Street will be closed to traffic from 6am until 6pm, while Granby Street will be closed from 2pm to 4pm.

Rolling road closures will take place on the roads along the parade route from 2pm until 4pm to allow the two open-top buses to pass.

City mayor Sir Peter Soulsby said: "This is a wonderful opportunity for the city to show how proud it is of its team. The football club was very keen to celebrate with their fans in Town Hall Square, so we have put in place these measures to allow them to do so.

"We're expecting a huge turnout, and while only so many people can get into Town Hall Square, people can also line the streets along the parade route to welcome the bus tour. I'm sure people will want to congratulate the team on its well-earned success."

City centre businesses along the route and bus operators have been informed of the road closures, but those coming to the city centre on Monday are advised to expect delays.

A Sunday bus service will be in operation on Bank Holiday Monday.

Surely it takes a diversion to that route to pick up Sam Bailey from her house?

Just heard they couldn't get an open top bus so they're going to drive a standard one through the low bridge near Lancaster Place / Mandella Park which will lose the roof, Whitbread and St Ledger and due to Wasilewski's presence half a ton of brickwork.
