Pearson's health

Recommended Posts

Posted

So Pearson had a day off for some unknown reasons a few weeks ago (and a heart check up four years ago, after which he resumed work three days later) - that's all we know, isn't it? On the one hand we have some unnamed guy having heard off some other unnamed guy that Pearson has a severe heart condition, on the other hand we have Pearson - who's been getting blissfully pissed, going on bike rides and doing all other manner of things that aren't generally recommended for the unwell - saying his contract's in the bag and he's looking forward to next season.

I said some years back that I found the speculation about O'Neill's wife - who actually had been ill some years before - massively offensive. Certain people were quite adamant that he would not be managing in the near future because his wife's illness had taken a turn for the worse. A few weeks later he moved up to Sunderland for his next post.

It was my view then, and it is now, that we can bitch and moan about the squad and the players and the tactics all we want, but if you really want to go about pissing off managers and prospective managers, then making bullshit up about them being seriously ill has got to be one of the best ways.

Now it could turn out to be true. But if it is, let's let him tell us, or at very least some credible source, rather than people constantly guessing at what the next great disaster is going to be. Did you ever hear about the woman who went from port to port screaming 'that ship's going to sink'? Well one day back in 1912 she found herself at Southampton. If you keep going you'll get it right one day, but it doesn't stop it from coming across as pretty bloody unsavoury in the meantime.

Why would they offer Phillips a coaching role if they knew the manager was leaving? A bit of an irresponsible move surely?

Most managers would want to bring their own men in with them.

Spent a little time with him last night and a much longer period with him today and his health certainly didn't appear to be an issue. They're busily scouting for players for the Prem next season which suggests to me that nothing much is going to change. If he is thinking of quitting then he gave nothing away.

wouldn't surprise me if nige is a bit of a secret worrier behind the RAF exterior. maybe he just got a bit anxious about his heart, especially being in such a highly stressed job.

I'm sure people at a certain age are more aware of health problems and actively seek check-ups, maybe it's something in the family.

In any case, just because he's been to the hospital doesn't mean he's ill.

I don't think this thread is as ridiculous as some are making out managing a Premiership club is an incredibly demanding and stressful job and 4 times out of 5 at least things turn out badly, Pearson will be getting a decent bonus for taking us up this year enough no doubt to give him a comfortable retirement. I think he will continue as many of his interviews he has referred to his planning for next season but at the same time I know if I had a heart condition at his age I would certainly be considering retiring in his position you would have to be incredibly stupid not to and Pearson is far from stupid.

Still hasn't signed a new contract has he....

I hope this isn't true and if there was much substance then the papers would get hold of it surely?

Nigel's a warrior anyway.

Yep don't understand the new contract either

Would explain him in the stands

Would explain no statement from Top.

Could explain that trip to hospital, he was in for 3 days. Wasn't a cold was it?

Big Nige wouldn't be making team plans for next season if he was also planning to retire, that make's no sense, so I'll take it as a stupid rumour!

:dunno: Just have to wait and see, wont we?

Exactly. Let's shut up about it in the meantime. As many other posters have said, in the unlikely event that it's true, it's a very poor subject for speculation...

Clear rubbish regurgitated by the OP because he doesn't like Nigel (Bentleys Roofism), evident by the fact that he refers to statistically our best manager ever as 'NFP.' On the phone in last night some quotes from Nigel.

'I will be wearing a tracksuit next season.'
'Sometimes I will be on the touchline, sometimes in the stands.'

Plus various others about recruitment and formations for next year, so clearly just re-posting the 'rumour' to cause some early friction and get a reaction.

I find speculation on this to be incredibly disrespectful and distasteful.

Apparently the rumour has been leaked from the production manager of Asics Sports, apparently they had a call last week asking to put an order of 38 pairs of size 11 trainers in white on hold

I suggest you get a new way of seeing the world. Pearson has spent a number of days and nights in hospital which may or may not indicate something about the general state of his health. If he had not spent time in hospital then it might be as you describe it.

However since then he has given no indication that his health in anyway shape or form precludes him from being Leicester City's Manager next season. If that were not the case then he would be deceitful and I do not think that Pearson would behave like that.

Instead all this speculation is ludicrous as there does not seem to be any substance to back this speculation up. So until Pearson tells us that he cannot continue then all this speculation is whistling in the wind.

More than him going on the lash; if his heart was so bad that he needs to retire from football why would he:

a) Let the players chuck him up in the air.

b) Get in with the fans and jump up and down like a mad man.

c) Go to matches where he's obviously going to get wound up. He's the kind of person who'll seriously get his ticker going in the dressing rooms when things aren't going well.

etc. etc.

I won't put this in the category of BS though...

That'd be completely slanderous to anything that's been classed as BS before
