Hack Posted 26 May 2014 Posted 26 May 2014 This is perhaps the dumbest post amongst some very dumb posts. You suggest we should just release our top scorer, because you do not believe his is good enough for the prem. Surely then, over half the squad should be axed at the earliest oppurtunity. Maybe we should cull all but the 5 or 6 players you think are good enough, and then sign another 15 to make a team with? I am sure that is exactly what this game player would want us to do. Doesn't suit his team on FM or Fifa having most of our real players in the side.
fox123 Posted 26 May 2014 Posted 26 May 2014 There seems to be a lot of debate on our Nuge. Personally, I feel Nuge is a quality squad member. Not just for his footballing brain, but clearly he has a good effect on the team morale. Teddy Sheringham wasn't blessed with pace, but his footballing brain was second to none. Nugent is a similar player to Sheringham, maybe not ability wise, but his footballing brain is what makes him different. Vardy doesn't have the same footballing intelligence, but his work ethic and pace is what has made the partnership effective. Agent Fox - to say it would be financial suicide to sign him on a 3 year deal, you are talking utter nonsense - I'm not quite sure what you are expecting from a player who I suspect Pearson doesn't see as our main striker; hence me referencing Teddy Sheringham.
roblcfc84 Posted 26 May 2014 Posted 26 May 2014 Bizarre that fans are debating nugents value to the club. Always works hard, is quicker than he looks, has a habit of popping up with a goal when needed, better in the air than he gets credit for, clearly loves the club, and won't be on mega wages compared to the alternatives in this league. Trust me a hard working, committed forward will be worth more next year compared to a striker who may go missing when things arnt going well. Next year is about survival... Don't know what fans want sometimes. Wasn't that long ago the fans wanted shot of vardy and drink water.
ZeljkoKalac1 Posted 26 May 2014 Posted 26 May 2014 There are so many things wrong with this post. I'll mention two. 1) Nugent's game is most certainly not based around pace. Infact, he rarely runs at players or makes darting runs into the box. 2) Just because Sir Alex Ferguson does something doesn't mean we should copy it. Ferguson signed Zaha for £15 million so should we do that? Signing zaha was not a club policy! It was a single action. You have to be careful what packages you offer players of a certain age, look at wayne bridge for example, when man city signed him he was a quality premiership player, the problem was that they gave him a contract that was too long and the last two years of it they were stuck with a player on big money who was now only championship standard. Say for instance if Nugent is asking for a four year deal, can you honestly say he will be the same player at 33??? I can't. Is he even good enough for the premier league now??

At 32 I don't think there will be much difference in his quality.
dayday Posted 26 May 2014 Posted 26 May 2014 No, of course Nugent won't be as good when he's 33 but he's asking for a 3 year contract. At 32 I don't think there will be much difference in his quality. It all comes down to Pearson,it looks like he is trying to get a striker or two in,which means Nugent will have to settle maybe for a bit part in games,if that's the case it could well be that a two year contract is what he will be offered.
Matt Posted 26 May 2014 Posted 26 May 2014 No, of course Nugent won't be as good when he's 33 but he's asking for a 3 year contract. At 32 I don't think there will be much difference in his quality. I'm not getting into this argument but I am going to play devils advocate. So what you are saying is between now (29) and 32 there won't be much difference in his quality yet you have admitted at 33 he won't be as good, so you think there will be a dramatic downfall within a year? Do you not think it will be gradual difference year on year, over 3 years? What i'm getting at is you seem to state there won't be any/or much difference within the 3 years but then that crucial year taking him to 33 is going to have a huge effect.
XLM Posted 26 May 2014 Posted 26 May 2014 Those suggesting we don't offer him a contract, what's the solution? We sign another striker who might not necessarily fit our system? It can't be news that strikers who score goals in the premiership are very expensive, not just to buy, but to keep on your books. Take example from Reading and Birmingham, who signed Pogrebnyak and Zigic respectively. Both of them are on above 60k a week, playing bang average championship football. Nugent scored 20 goals last season. Whatever people say about his contribution sometimes, he has scored vital goals, and is a very important part of the way we play. So if he's rubbish next season, but we stay up, that's a sorry fact of football. But I think you have to have faith that our leading goalscorer this season will do alright.
davieG Posted 26 May 2014 Posted 26 May 2014 Hull interested? http://www.clubcall.com/hull-city/foxes-star-linked-1726718.html

This is exactly what I was getting at in the first place when I said Sir Alex didn't offer anything other than yearly contracts to outfield players over 30, there is a good reason for this!
LCCFox96 Posted 26 May 2014 Posted 26 May 2014 Hull interested? http://www.clubcall.com/hull-city/foxes-star-linked-1726718.html Surely that's a bad career move. In terms of club stature it's a sideways move set best now we have hit the premiership. Jelavic and Long + any new additions needed for Europe, will likely keep him firmly out of the side. To move for European football which Hull will likely only have for one year reaps no long term benefits either.

chapero82 Posted 26 May 2014 Posted 26 May 2014 I'm not saying get rid but he's not worth 3 years I would say 2 years as he definitely is on the decline, look at the season before last his goals were quality but he couldn't score many of those kinda chances season just gone, and he looks a bit slower than he was, but he may do a better job as a cam? he does get some assists for us so that role maybe perfect for him now

Gary Eatfood Posted 26 May 2014 Posted 26 May 2014 Yeah lets compare his whole career to one goal. FFS. It's like trying to compare Kevin Davies' career to this beauty. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjkR91QEjFg
Bert Posted 26 May 2014 Posted 26 May 2014 You mean like Nugent from February 2013 - January 2014?Them few months are certainly outweighed by the rest of his time here.

65RosesFox Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 Nudge to is a decent player but doesn't work hard enough, he looks like he's not bothered half of the time..... We need clever grafters in the prem. Let's hope Nigel and the scouts know some builders with A Levels or a Uni Degree then.
