My graphics card has gone kaput, so now functioning on Integrated graphics. Having said that, my old GFX card was only a GeForce GT8500, I'd guess many budget cards could improve on that now. Anyone suggest a decent GFX card for around £50 that will act as a stop gap, as I plan on getting a new base unit soon (though I'm considering getting a really good card and then maybe carryin that over to new PC)

Right, new laptop:

Processor: i5-3337u (1.8Ghz)

Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000

RAM: 6GB

HDD: 500GB

Is this going to be able to run games like Skyrim even remotely smoothly?

How can you improve a laptop's performance levels?

I've had a general test-run on mine and the result is that it is 6.5 (when it's normally 8 or 9/10), and I noticed recently that things seem a bit 'slow'.

Tried everything, including deleting files I don't often use.

Thanks.

Have you tried doing a spybot search?

That's cheap, if you find cheaper I'd be interested where.

Yeah to be fair I've not got a clue, thought it would be a 5 minute job (it probably isn't). Ill let you know when I get it done.

If you're running a genuine copy of Windows, I'd alwayd use Microsoft Security Essentials. Completely free and tailor-made for the system.

I normally run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware alongside it to catch anything else.

I use Avast and have never (touch wood) had any problems. I do use CC Cleaner fairly regularly too.

As above, I use Microsoft Security Essentials as well. Also use Advanced System Care to get rid of anything else and to clean stuff up.

I need a new laptop for next year. I'm a Graphic Design student. Macs aside (too expensive), which is the best for me? Any recommendation...?

My daughter's got an android tablet and we've got a couple of kindle fires, do we need to download any virus protection?

If you are serious about graphic design you will need a mac, an air with student discount is about £650?

I've never understood this, why? Is a lot of software only available on a Mac? Can't you just buy a normal, cheaper PC and install the Mac OS on it?
