Guest MattP Posted 24 June 2014 Posted 24 June 2014 16/5 for costa rica looks pretty good with that line up. I was thinking the same but it looks like Costa Rica are going to be resting a load of first teamers as well. Could be playing against a Costa Rica Premier League XI tonight.
MooseBreath Posted 24 June 2014 Posted 24 June 2014 That must be the worst team we've ever fielded at a world cup finals. Even despite ultra low expectations England always seem to find a way to dissapoint, so I'm guessing Lampard and co won't even give us the masochistic thrill of being totally useless, instead grinding out an absolutely shit nil nil draw that goes down as the worst game of the tournament.
sidavies1970 Posted 24 June 2014 Posted 24 June 2014 Potentially good offer today on England at 4/1 to beat Costa Rica in tonights game. Probably risky given the past couple of results but still wouldn't be too surprising, especially with the pressure off England now. 4/1 for the win, plus a free matched bet from the bookie. Linky - http://btprft.in/frENCObf Enjoy and good luck!
James. Posted 24 June 2014 Posted 24 June 2014 Massively disappointed he's picked a team based on sentiment rather than one that could start against Switzerland.

Aye, the team put up on livescore is a feast of players from Saprissa, Herediano and Alajulense I'd be surprised if he changed that much though, he'll surely want to make sure he avoids Colombia in the last 16.
Mark Posted 24 June 2014 Posted 24 June 2014 Confirmed line up according to bbc sport twitter @BBCSport: England starting-XI vs #CRC: Foster, Jones, Cahill, Smalling, Shaw, Milner, Lampard, Wilshere, Barkley, Lallana, Sturridge. #WorldCup Don't these 3 all play central for their clubs? I don't think any of them are wide players. What really annoyed me in the last game was when we brought Barkley and Lallana on and played them out wide, looks like he's done it again.

I think that Lallana played on the left of a 3 last season so he will be there and Barkley will play behind Sturridge with Milner on the right.
Finnegan Posted 24 June 2014 Posted 24 June 2014 Every time I come in to the World Cup section and UB is the last poster but the Women thread hasn't been bumped I'm a little sad inside. God, I'm turning in to Buzzer_b and MikeyT.

What really annoyed me in the last game was when we brought Barkley and Lallana on and played them out wide, looks like he's done it again. Lallana played on the left for Southampton, like UB said. And I've seen Wilshere push forward by Arsenal in to an more attacking role, but he's not as good as in a more deep lying central role. That said I can't see Milner being to effective as one of the wide attacking players either. Seems to me like a team that's been cobbled together a bit. Would rather have seen Sterling start.
LCFC FOX Posted 24 June 2014 Posted 24 June 2014 I think it will be Lampards last game for England. True legend and a quality player. Gerrard being two years younger I think he will play till euro 2016 and that will be his last campaign
LCFC FOX Posted 24 June 2014 Posted 24 June 2014 What England miss are world class defenders. I'm really hoping Shaw does turn into the best left back but I think we need at least one good CB. Hopefully Smalling or Jones can prove me wrong and become world class. Attacking wise I think England are looking seriously dangerous and we could be winning competitions. I'm just hoping a quality CB comes through. As for Roy I'm not sure he's the right man for the job
Ric Flair Posted 24 June 2014 Posted 24 June 2014 Massively disappointed he's picked a team based on sentiment rather than one that could start against Switzerland. Yeah I agree mate. Fair enough giving Lallana and Barkley a start but picking hillmans like Smalling and Foster who will be nowehere near our XI or shouldn't be anyway is daft. Lampard doesn't really need a send off anyway, he knows what he has or hasn't achieved for England and captaining us one last time in a dead rubber game is hardly the topping on the cake.

Beliall Posted 24 June 2014 Posted 24 June 2014 if that happens, cue 6 months of asking why woy didnt play that team to start with,
MooseBreath Posted 24 June 2014 Posted 24 June 2014 The only managers I'd sack Hodgson for are Guardiola, Alex Ferguson or Mourinho. Since the first two are certain non-starters, that only leaves Mourinho, and he isn't going to leave Chelsea so soon. I do think the FA should be tapping him up with a view to him taking over after 2016 though.

Leicesterpool Posted 24 June 2014 Posted 24 June 2014 Well this is it then sadly... well lets try and end it on a high and try and take something positive out of this world cup. Come On England 2-1 England.
casablancas Posted 24 June 2014 Posted 24 June 2014 I'm by no means a patriot, infact I spend as much of my time travelling as possible and dread coming back. However hearing 1000's of fans singing the national anthem gives me tingles. I don't get how the 11 starting players don't show the emotion. Are they feeling it? I know people prepare for matches in various ways, but watching Brazilian and Chilean national anthems gets me thinking it has to be a start. Anyway going for a 0-0 draw.
