Dan Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 Can't get Wickham on Championship Manager 2000. But you can get Siem De Jong?
kingfox Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 But you can get Siem De Jong? Nope, you can get Phillip Cocu though
RedSoxUK Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 Think you answered the first bit with the second bit if we have put the bid in. I do think some thing has happened between Wood and NP though. Think a reasonable bid would see wood gone if we got Wickham in. I didn't do it on purpose! but that's how it will go down - if our staff see the potential in him, then we should get him in. Experience goes a long way, even if some of that is bad with Sunderland, but the lad has promise, has shown his worth to Sunderland, and can probably gel with this youthful Leicester side. If he was to come, Wood would have to go as a surplus which is sad because he was fanatstic for us when he first came. Wood still has the quality and I think he can still be an important part of our team for next season. Chris wood has not been great for us bar the first few games he played for us, afte that to me he's been a bit of a flop, he can't head the ball to save his life Wickham has not been great for Sunderland bar their last few games - an 8mill flop resicitated by some form.

I agree I've not mentioned wickham being the answer either tbhBut I don't understand how people can say Chris Wood is quality I have not seen it, I see him as slow and clumsy tbh
BoyJones Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 Wickham is clearly a better footballer than Wood. I like Wood, but for his size, he doesn't dominate in the Championship, what chance had he in the Premier League? Campbell won't improve the side, as far as I am concerned he can go elsewhere. If we buy Wickham, a great acquisition.
Countesthorpe Fox 1884 Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 £5M for Sunderland would help them in their bid for borini.
sylofox Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 A little surge at the end of last season, makes all the difference then? I'm sure before last season, people were looking at him, and were calling him overrated. But no point going on about it, until something more comes to fruition. The Daily Mail, linked us with Pelle nothing came of that, they linked us with Movsisyan nothing on that, now with Wickham and it only says considering a bid. Majority of players we have been linked with may not even be on our radar. As I keep saying every transfer is a gamble. All I am saying is I would rather spend 5 to 7m on Wickham who has had games in the prem and a major part in Sunderlands survival. Than I would spend 10m on Ulloa that has never played at that level. Not saying either will do the job just think Wickham is a lesser gamble depending on price.

Personally I wouldn't sign any of them, just depends what takes your fancy, do you want to get in an experienced Premier League striker, someone like Wickham who has hardly been given the time to prove himself in the Prem, buy someone from the Championship, or focus on going abroad.
MC Prussian Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 He hasn't been consistent for Sunderland, although he had a purple patch at the end of last season. Not totally convinced he would be right for us, but that is merely my opinion. Which 21-year old has been consistent in his first three Premier League years? One of those seasons, he was injured for a long spell, then benched by O'Neill for almost an entire year. Please elaborate on how a youngster can be consistent under those circumstances? Bloody hell, you and your expectations.

Bloody hell, you and your expectations. Add to that, do you think we'd have a chance of buying a 21 year old striker that had Consistently scored goal in the top flight for 3 years? We need to shop on potential or fig players that aren't on the radar of big clubs.
Big_Nige Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Would love this, he's got everything in his game to become a top striker, just was never given a pro-longed run in the Sunderland team. First rumour I've been excited about all summer.
suffolk fox Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 This is not going to happen. Sunderland paid 8 million for him in 2011. There is no way they will sell him to us for five. He scored some crucial goals for them that kept them in the premiership last season. His worth to Sunderland is certainly more than five million. More paper talk clap trap.

He'll be worth nothing to them next summer though and having just lost Colback the same way I'm sure they're wary of losing Wickham for free. Having said that I think they'll still want more than 5m.
dbtcity Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 He has ONE year left on his contract therefore will be lucky to get 6m
johnny the fox Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 He has ONE year left on his contract therefore will be lucky to get 6mhe he is 21 so they WILL get compensation..
jayfox26 Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 he is 21 so they WILL get compensation..compensation always ends up being nowhere near s players value. If he left on a free next year, they would get no more than £2m in compo I bet. If he refuses to sign a contract, they may have to accept £5m so they can at least replace him.
Carnosaurkid Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 What's with all this Chris Wood hate? He was injured most of last season and when he replaced vardy against burnley, didn't he touch the ball to Nuge for the first & then smash one into the top corner from 25 yards for the second?and who said he's not good with his head? Did you not see that wonder goal against watford?!ahem.I still think Wood is great, but if we're looking at Wickham & Ulloa then I think Pearson doesn't trust Wood to be the target man we're looking for.
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Connor Wickham has the potential to be one of the best strikers in England. The problem he has had is a lack of consistency and has been loaned out too many times since he moved to Sunderland. Honestly think he is a completely different gravy to what we already have and I think NP would get the best out of him. Anybody that thinks Wood is in the same class as Wickham is imo deluded.

Can't get off the floor. There is no doubting his finishing ability but there has to be major doubts about his athletic abilities. Too slow and hampered by this to ever be a top player.

He got off the floor quite a bit at Burnley. Really excelled in the role of target man that day. It's frustrating when he doesn't perform because I think we've seen often enough that he can be very good.
lee7 Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 This would be an amazing signing if Pearson can get him playing well consistently. Sometimes he's unplayable and can change games on his own but then another game he'll be useless and constantly make the wrong decisions/runs! He's still got a lot of potential!
dpjfox Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 we are linked to every player in thier last contract year!
