Jakemoore Posted 14 October 2014 Posted 14 October 2014 Does he have a huge problem commanding his area? He's just dropped a clanger for Denmark....dont shoot me, I'm just asking the question.
MPH Posted 14 October 2014 Posted 14 October 2014 I think you'll get GK's with strengths and weaknesses. And we have one just as do 95% of teams. GK's with few noticeable weaknesses usually play for champions league winning teams.... and im not trying to be condescending and its ok to point out his weaknesses just as long as you also acknowledge his strengths. I personally wouldn't call it a huge problem, just something he needs to work on.
Jakemoore Posted 14 October 2014 Author Posted 14 October 2014 He's one of the best shot stoppers in world football. But he's quite short by goal keeping standards and doesn't command his area at all
Dan Posted 14 October 2014 Posted 14 October 2014 He's a limited goalkeeper with two extremes. Superb shot stopper but pretty crap at most other things. We have been shit from set pieces in the three+ years he's been here.
shen Posted 14 October 2014 Posted 14 October 2014 Oh give it a rest, he didn't drop a clanger at all. Coming for crosses is not his primary strength, no, and he's not that tall for a goalkeeper. He's pretty quick though and saved a certain goal against Ronaldo. But he's not the first or last keeper who will fail to punch above Ronaldo's head...

Agree with this Ronaldo jumps higher than the average NBA Basketball player when heading a ball, no big deal with this issue the lad is another level!
MC Prussian Posted 14 October 2014 Posted 14 October 2014 Players go through ups and downs, just like everybody else. Just because Schmeichel's not being able to keep up his good form of previous months right now doesn't mean he's a bad goalkeeper. Besides, it's hard to find a keeper with little to no flaws to his game.
st albans fox Posted 14 October 2014 Posted 14 October 2014 Ironically, he is castigated for staying on his line too much and yet here he is being slaughtered for coming off his line! Looks like an error of judgement to me though had he 'stayed at home' the header would probably had beaten him anyway.
Guest MattP Posted 14 October 2014 Posted 14 October 2014 Think it's something we have known for a while that he is a brilliant shot stopper but extremely average in command of his area.
Bayfox Posted 14 October 2014 Posted 14 October 2014 kasper has always been weak at commanding his area. does it come as a shock to you?
MPH Posted 14 October 2014 Posted 14 October 2014 He doesn't command shit. Au contraire... He commanded quite a hefty wage when he re-signed his contract....
ealingfox Posted 14 October 2014 Posted 14 October 2014 Handles crosses like a vampire amongst his other incompetencies. Getting punished more and more now he's playing at a higher level. Could get away with it in the Championship but you feel, like Nugent, those small but significant increments of quality that they are missing will just be ruthlessly exposed time and time again. Sad but true.
Stadt Posted 14 October 2014 Posted 14 October 2014 His abilities aren't very balanced, one of the best shot stoppers in the league, great at one on ones and fantastic reflexes; he struggles with the physical side of keeping which is probably down to his height and probably why he'll never be as good as his dad.
Storming Posted 14 October 2014 Posted 14 October 2014 A clean Sheet wouldnt go a miss would it we only have one so far and that was Kaspers day off , Still rather have him between the stick though
Bert Posted 14 October 2014 Posted 14 October 2014 Foxestalk in slate the best keeper we've had in years shocker. Cast your minds back to just this summer and the amount of panic people were going through at the thought of him leaving us. He gives absolutely everything for us everytime he plays and is a great goalkeeper. Of course he could improve but so could everyone else. He isn't solely responsible for why we've been so bad at set pieces either, first and second balls not being defended properly are part of the reason. Either way apart from the top top keepers in the league I wouldn't swap him for anyone else. We could do a hell of a lot worse.
johnny the fox Posted 14 October 2014 Posted 14 October 2014 Don't you think he studies his own performances? he is his own worse critic. You never learn from your successes ,you learn from your failures .Im sure he knows he could of done better in the last month, and will.
maddog Posted 14 October 2014 Posted 14 October 2014 Hamer should start at Newcastle. Based on going to all our games bar two this season and watching them on the tele not tonight. Hamer looked class at Stoke and made some world class shot stopping saves in the second half himself. Commanding and a shot stopper you say? And the only keeper with a clean sheet to his name? Get him in.
lgfualol Posted 14 October 2014 Posted 14 October 2014 Once he gets over his hesitance to come out of his goal, he'll be the savior we all deserve. I think he needs to realise he'll get knocked out eventually so might as well go for it.
Jakemoore Posted 14 October 2014 Author Posted 14 October 2014 I'd just like to say that firstly, he did drop a clanger on Tuesday night for Denmark. Of that there is no doubt. If he had stayed on his line and conceded then fair enough, good header. Also, as it says in the title of this thread, I love kasper. Great goalie, and seems a great guy to have around. But he really needs to work on commanding his area. No one is perfect right, just an observation. I wouldn't swap him for any other keeper in this league. Neuer might get in to our first 11 though
LAprice_ Posted 14 October 2014 Posted 14 October 2014 Ironically, Kasper is quite commanding when he's in the opposition's box. I've only seen him there a few times but he always looks likely to win the header. If we're being critical, we could moan at him for not scoring against Portugal. Maybe he would deal with crosses better if he just ran out and headed the ball clear. Who needs hands? Seriously though, Ronaldo.

As I can think of at least 10 goal keepers who I would prefer from this league, with the likes of Guzan & Begovic amongst them, whom I doubt you class as 'top.'

Just like I've expressed mine?
Zapp Posted 14 October 2014 Posted 14 October 2014 Did anyone notice his save from Ronaldo with his legs earlier in the game though. Other keepers would not have prevented that. I'm not defending that the goal was his fault. Unfortunately it was imo. But like someone said all keepers have strengths & weaknesses. Part of the defences job is to prevent opportunities to exploit the weakness.
Mad Dog Posted 15 October 2014 Posted 15 October 2014 Kasper is a top goalkeeper. If he signed a ten year contract today that said he had to start every game he's fit for, I'd be delighted. We will not get better. He has a long top flight club career and long international career ahead of him.
