He was dreadful in so many matches last season, people tend to forget that and just look at the goals+penalty stat. Whilst it's a decent amount, we as a team were creating an abundance of chances every game, many of which Nugent missed unless we were playing Burnley or Ipswich.

Fair enough mate but that is a little harsh. How many assists did he have as well for Vardy, those 2 were excellent together

They were very effective as a partnership, which makes me even more frustrated to see we've abandoned what they had together and stuck Ulloa up front. We should have gone out to improve upon the success it brought. We signed the wrong type of striker, and had to change the way we play which going into a new league isn't exactly ideal.

Nugent's link up play last season was brilliant. Which people always fail to see. The same reason why a lot of people always say "Goes missing in matches" about Andy King. If he's not scoring that he's had a bad game in some peoples opinions which is totally wrong. There's more to being a striker than just scoring goals.

Bench at the minute as he's probably our third best striker - though that to me points to us needing another in January. I don't think Wood is any better than him.

I can see us spending a fair bit on another forward in January to be honest.

Nugent had the 2nd most assists in the Championship last season behind Kieran Trippier. It's nothing to do with people looking at how many penalties he scored last season.

Last season, his biggest attribute and why he was such an important player to the team was his link-up play from midfield to attack and the number of chances he created. The goals on top of that were just a bonus.

Can you see him creating any goals this season? By the time he's made up his mind what to do the balls gone, his speed of thought isn't good enough for this league.

I wasn't saying anything about this season, I was just defending him against ludicrous claims that people just looked at his goals+penalties stars and assume he had a good season last season. When I think most could just watched us for 46 games and recognised what an important player he was in terms of us creating chances last season.

Imo Nugent should be playing as a poacher. He's hard working but simply not effective in any deep lying or free role. He can't pick a pass or make a cross or beat a man. He's not a bad finisher though and has decent pace. I don't think we've used him properly for a number of seasons.

He's been poor for a month. Sadly so has Vardy and Ulloa. Can't help but feel the Nugent is the scapegoat for what is a much, much bigger problem.

I'm not entirely convinced Wood will be much of an improvement either much as I like him. But like it or not, their our options and there isn't much we can do about it, not until January at least.  Basically we have to hope one of them finds some form from somewhere soon. And to be fair to them they aren't getting a great deal of help, that's not going to change unless we get a bit more creativity going and fcking off the diamond is the first thing we should be looking at doing in that regard. If we're going with 4 in the midfield get some width, use Knockaert, Mahrez, Albrighton, never thought I'd say this but even playing Jeffrey is preferable to playing FOUR center midfielders it is ludicrous.

I agree and I don't fall the work rate bit either. His runs are aimless or into a position where he won't have to take responsibility or can't be passed to giving the illusion of being quite busy. Quite often to be found out on the wings when his presence isn't required due to others being there, would do better to make himself available in and around the box and gamble a bit. Quite often is overtaken by a midfield player busting a gut to make it into the penalty area whilst he strolls in. I don't see the 'link play' myth either, the law of averages states he will touch the ball occasionally. When listening to the radio for away matches he can sometimes go nearly a  whole half without a mention.

Nugent was instrumental in our good start to the season, but has been as poor as anyone since the United game, and nobody has a divine right to start so I put him on the bench. I struggle to see how Nugent will score goals at this level, he doesn't have the pace of Vardy or Schlupp, the aerial prowess of Ulloa or Wood, he can't beat a man like Mahrez or Knocky and doesn't seem to have the intelligence or speed of thought to get himself in space in goal scoring positions. He does work hard and links up well with other players, but in terms of goal threat he apart from the Chelsea chance and penalty against United, he has barely troubled the keepers.

I agree with that. There's no particular aspect to his game which is outstanding and that's why he struggles. He's very much a jack of all trades and a master of none and in this league that isn't enough. I think he's better than Wood but at least Wood does have a strong attribute in his shooting.

Unless we are preparing for the Championship again next season we need to get rid.

If we go down fair enough he might be off some use to us.

But that isn't really a forward thinking statement is it? It's not positive and it's not something any us want to think about, for that reason we should look at offloading him in January.

I like the bloke, he always seems a happy chappie, always does try but he simply isn't good enough and we're not in a position to carry people, we need to be ruthless, get rid, but we must replace, with alot better.

Gonna go against the grain here. I'd start him. For me, the issue isn't Nugent per se (his ability to score goals cannot be in question..he's been our top scorer for the past two seasons), the problem is in the lack of supply to him.

When you have a striker with the pace and confidence of Vardy, being limited in a home game to sod-all chances, you know you're in trouble. Same with Nugent. Stick either in an attack minded, confident and free-flowing side (like we were last year), they'll both score goals.

The problem of not scoring enough is a TEAM problem. Our record signing, for the past few weeks has looked like a donkey! We know he's a decent striker..his problem at present is endemic of the bigger issue. We don't create enough.
