MC Prussian Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 £5m for a now 28-year old who mainly played lower-league and non-league football in his career is a more than decent return on the £1m we paid a while back. I suppose Fleetwood would get a chunk of the money, too. But he needs to stay at least until the end of this season - since we don't know whether we'll remain in the Premier League, I'd rather have him contribute to our own survival campaign than to immediate opposition. On a sidenote: Happy Birthday, Jamie!
LCCFox96 Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 People are basing Vardy being 5th choice striker on a 4-4-2 (4-4-1-1) formation, currently favoured, and a certain type of game. Other types of game play more to his strengths as do some of our formations. In my opinion its not about accepting a £5mil offer for Vardy to fund a move for Okazaki or even making a profit on his initial transfer fee. Its about giving us the right options across all of our systems of play to do that. With 5 strikers that is something we achieve: Ulloa as the big target man, Nugent and Kramaric as the deep lying forwards, Vardy and Okazaki (or another option) as the out and out strikers in the squad. Why are so many people who want us to strenghten our attack looking to sell one of our best performers in the promotion season and a player who could/can be very dangerous in the premiership is beyond me, particularly as we don't appear to need the £5mil cash injection.
v6rat Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 If we get Okazaki, then that's 6 strikers, so 2 will go either on loan or will be sold, plus the books need a bit of balancing, therefore 5 million may well be tempting to the club.
AKCJ Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 Britt Asombalonga went for 5m in the summer ffs. He might not be a goal scorer but we couldn't replace his work rate for 5 bloody million. If we were going to sell then I'd want at least 7. Nobody in the league works as hard as him. For a relegation fighting team, it's invaluable.
filbertway Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 Seems pointless to even consider selling him, £5 million isn't enough in my opinion to get rid of what would be a top striker in the championship if we were to be relegated.
muzzy1981 Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 He's still a key player in our relegation fight, I'd do everythingto keep our players at the mo
whitwickfox Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 And just how many goals has this £5million pound player scored for us this year. His first touch is awful. Reminds me of dyer pace but that's about all
Guest Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 I'd sell him at the right price but I wouldn't sell to another team in the bottom 10 of the Prem. We don't want to help them at all.
sdb Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 If we go down and face a season in the Champo without him, that' a massive blow. That's my concern. £5 mill feels slightly generous at the mo but he's a very useful player to have and I'd rather we have him than a rival.
RizLCFC Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 If we go down and Pulis tries to sign him again, like he did when we got promoted, he will probably leave for the PL for a much lower amount. I'm not saying sell him, because I like him, he's struggling at the moment but we haven't seen the best of him yet. However, if you bring in Okazaki as a replacement then he's a much better player, it's a tough one!
Robin JD Popley Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 Leicester City as a PLC and before - "That's a good offer, we will take it". Leicester City under the Srivaddhanaprabha family - "Jog on!"
Bettsj2 Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 If we want to stay up and compete, we have to accept that some players need to be replaced with better players and Vardy is a good example. He is a useful member of the squad but, he isnt good enough. At 28, i'm not sure his game can develop further from being a nuisance. He will have the odd game where it all falls into place (Utd for example) but generally we need better quality. Its harsh but its the reality we face. I'm amazed that another Prem club wants him to be honest as overall, he'sbeen fairly poor this season.
Max Power Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 I love Vardy but Okazaki would be a massive upgrade. Regretfully do it
sylofox Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 So by the end of this month we look like having 3 strikers that have cost us £25m plus in total. Take the £5m for vardy as he won't be getting a game and is not prem quality. with at least 2 strikers coming in we need to make space in the squad he really wont be happy if removed from the squad. He will then have no chance of a game. Cash in and get a centre back or a left back.
Dan Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 To be honest, I'd take it. I absolutely loved him last year, but it feels like 2012/13 all over again. He's got the endeavour but he's just not quite good enough for this league. He's a one-trick pony. Limit his space and he's unfortunately not got a clue how to deal with it. It was painful watching him yesterday. He's turned 28 years old today. That is nowhere near being a youngster. You have to question if he'll ever make it in this league. A shame but I don't think we could turn down £5mil.
lcfc81 Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 I wouldn't do any deals with anyone in the relegation fight with us.
lcfc81 Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 I also think he is a very good option, and imo it's about having options. Possibly in the summer, a no for me now.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 People said they'd take the money for Schlupp and Moore in the past too but it seems immaterial. It's all about the squad for Pearson and there's no way he will want to sell Vardy.
Dan Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 You only need to rewatch the United match to see what he is capable of in form and with confidence. He was a machine. Against a defence that gave him all the space in the world. I think it genuinely is a lack of quality rather than confidence. The fans are still well on his side (which I think can play a big part in confidence) but he just doesn't look like scoring anymore. That Man Utd game has gone against him completely. He gained a reputation as a diver (hence why he's had absolutely no decisions since) and as a forward who is extremely good if given space. Sure enough, he's been pretty useless since as no-one gives him any space. He's too reliant on the defender making a mistake. At this level, it doesn't work.
pazzerfox Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 If Shane Long went for £12million, then Vardy is worth nearer to £10million than £5million. Definitely NO DEAL.
Banks Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 His workrate is something else, he puts players under pressure, forcing them into mistakes. He's just a pest. I'd be very sad if he leaves, keep him and sell Nugent.
lcfcjw16 Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 He was probably our best player last season, but he's not done anything at all except for the man utd game. Clearly out of his depth in the prem. Since he's just signed a 4 year contract last summer, he might be worth a little more than £5m
MC Prussian Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 If Shane Long went for £12million, then Vardy is worth nearer to £10million than £5million. Definitely NO DEAL. You have to take into consideration that Long was bought after displaying the skills needed in the Premier League, as he had amassed more than a 100 top-flight games when Southampton went after him. And he managed to score eight goals in successive PL seasons with West Brom. The Saints knew what they were getting in order to complete their squad. As for Vardy, he's a year older and pretty much still an unknown quantity in this division. No way is he worth as much as Long.
