StanSP Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 Is that a joke? We won today in spite of the fact he missed 2 sitters. Fortunately a fvcking left back showed him how it's done. I'm not having Nugent is better than Vardy based on this, or in fact last season. Because Nugent scored a cracker against Liverpool he's all of a sudden a hero and Vardy is yesterday's news. It's not all of a sudden though, is it? His goal against Liverpool was more of a reward as to how he's played in matches and the role he plays for the team when he's on the pitch.
lcfcsnow Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 Nugent and Vardy have contributed 2 goals from open play all season. That kind of goal return from strikers will get us relegated. If the offer is there, take it and have a go at improving the side or carry on missing shedloads of chances and get relegated, who knows when we'll be back? Plus it's about time we made profit on a player.
Mark_w Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 £3m more got a Championship striker who's been decent, not fantastic, at this level. Kramaric was almost double the price and he's completely unproven outside of Croatia. £5m is not going to get us much. I doubt we need that sort of money to 'push deals over the line', we've already bought one for about £10m and have bid about £8m more for someone else. If Ulloa has been decent then what has Vardy been? (I think you're being very harsh on Leo, rather than overrating Jamie for what it's worth, he's up there with some of the top scorers in the division at the side that's bottom of the pile. Without him we'd probably be as good as down already). £5,000,000 is not nothing, and whilst I'd like to believe we can spend £10m on Kramaric, and similar for the Japanese striker, and add the defenders we're supposedly looking at, and maybe a winger as well, without selling anyone and without failing FFP. I doubt that is the case. I like Jamie and I'm not saying we should snap their hands off, but it's a good offer we should be thinking about.

Least he's getting in the positions to have a chance of scoring. Nugents work rate is just as good as vardy's, his link up play is much better than Vardy's, they both miss a lot of chances but Nugent can make something out of nothing.
Kitchandro Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 It's not all of a sudden though, is it? His goal against Liverpool was more of a reward as to how he's played in matches and the role he plays for the team when he's on the pitch. His goal against Liverpool was a reward for how he played in that match. I think on the whole he's been extremely poor this season. I thought he did alright today as well tbf, but he did his best to give Villa a clean sheet all the same. He's come into a little bit of form and Vardy has gone out of form. In the short term. Least he's getting in the positions to have a chance of scoring. Nugents work rate is just as good as vardy's, his link up play is much better than Vardy's, they both miss a lot of chances but Nugent can make something out of nothing. Can see what you're saying in the first sentence but the bit in bold is just lies.
The Doctor Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 strange offer, man utd aside he's looked out of his depth. Having said that, he did the same first season in the championship then really came good once settled...
Guest Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 Offer them Nugent for £2.5m instead. Bargain. You having a laugh? Despite many being unable to understand what it is Nuge offers, we are a crap team without him quite often. It's not goals, it's link up play.

You can't knock Ulloa too much in terms of goalscoring, he's adapted well in that sense, and I do think he's a good player, but unfortunately he is and always will be one dimensional at this level. He's slow and cumbersome and needs service. He's a very different player to Vardy, who doesn't score as many goals but can make a lot more in open play. But for what it's worth I wasn't comparing them anyway. I was comparing £5m with £8m - £8m which we paid to get a player who'd never played in the Premiership before, and with all due respect wasn't even a top goalscorer in the championship. I'm not having a dig at Ulloa at all, but he is a Iimited player at this very high level and we still had to pay a lot. I just think you're overestimating the importance of £5m to us. The bit in bold.....you clearly know sod all about football. ok.
ScouseFox Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 berahino's off then... vardy is different to anything else we have got. I thought we missed him a lot first half today, not because he's good, but because he gets us up the pitch by running the channels etc, he turns a lot of useless hoofs when we've not got an easy ball into half decent passes and wins us throw ins or something. but the bottom line is he isn't cutting it atm and definitely isn't worth 5m. tough call but if we've got replacements lined up I wouldn't be distraught. do love me some Vardy tho.
Bamba's Babes Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 If this is a genuine offer then it's staggering! We pay £9.5M for Kramaric and WBA think Vardy is worth £5M? Haha. A chance to recoup half of the Kramaric fee for a player who isn't up to this standard of football is an opportunity we would be foolish to squander. Also, think of it this way - the money used to sell a striker who isn't scoring again this side of the second coming of Christ could be used to acquire Jermaine Defoe, a player who is almost guaranteed to score. Forget about Vardy being useful in the Championship, it's about the here and now. SELL!!
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 ****ing daft if we don't sell him for that price.
Albert Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 Not a chance of this happening. Regardless of his form he's massive part of the squad both on and off the pitch
chapero82 Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 Vardy was rubbish in his first season the championship, if we stay up another preseason he could be good in the BPL as he would have gained experience from this one
One Legged Beaver Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 As much as I like Vardy I'd be inclined to accept that offer provided we replace him with what we deem to be an improvement with that money.
EnderbyFox Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 Sell. Love Vardy but just don't think he's cut out for Prem Football, £5M is a great price and a tidy profit.
MIAMI_FOX Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 5 mill??????? Ridiculous Snap their hands off if true
Jaspa Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 Interesting to see how the club reacts. Myself, I'd like to keep him as I like his play style and have seen what he is capable of. If we sell, it says to me we dont rate him as a Premier League player because five million isnt up to scratch for one. In the end I'd have to take Nigel & Co's judgement over mine
Matt Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 You having a laugh? Despite many being unable to understand what it is Nuge offers, we are a crap team without him quite often. It's not goals, it's link up play. Link up play? I counted on numerous occasions misplaced passes from Nugent today, ok, the whole team were offenders of that and have been for a while but Nugnet is a common offender of this.
MPH Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 Wether he's good enough for us or not is completely irrelevant. Can we get better with the money? Is really the only question...
ronnup Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 He's worth nowhere near that, and I'd love to keep him because he has one thing I love in a football player, ridiculous pace, but that's crazy money.
bigbiff Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 Give him time he is a nightmare for defenders, even in bad form, if we stay up watch him improve again, ie start hitting the target. imo we wil mis his party if we sell
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 Never 5m to a rival for relegation, much more. Wouldn't want to sell him to a rival in this window for any price (reasonably speaking), imagine him firing the goals to keep them up/send us down, doesn't bare thinking about.
Crinklyfox Posted 11 January 2015 Posted 11 January 2015 If we are to escape relegation we need every option that we currently have. £5 million is a good price to get but it's poor business if we are a weaker team as a result and drop out of the Premier League, which would cost the club much more.
