Date night tonight with the wife and she's tasked me with finding somewhere to eat. We do not go into the city all that often but we're planning on just having a wander around to see what restaurants are around. Anyone got any recommendations? Preferably something at least vaguely romantic...

First person to suggest the Prince of Punjab is paying for our night out!

Kayal on Granby street is very nice and romantic-ish. They do a really nice fish curry. They have a vegetarian restaurant across the road as well which is supposed to be good.

If you're into desserts there is a new place called Dolchi on Granby Street made by the Heavenly Desserts people. Looks very posh from the outside and quite romantic. Can't imagine it's very cheap as it does look upmarket but might be worth popping down after your food to impress the mrs.

Casa Romana on Albion Street is always nice and reasonably priced.

Both of these are great shouts. About the only places my missus enjoys in town (she's very picky).

Me and the missus were shopping a couple of months ago and stumbled across Bodega's in St Martin's Square. Service was top notch and the food was reasonable price and of a good quality, i would recommend it to anyone :)

I had my first experience of Sapori the other week. Small portions, but reasonably priced and very very good food. A great quiet atmosphere perfect for a date night - although i went with my grandparents and my sister so i didn't exactly get that romantic vibe...

Yep - decorated nice, still good sized portions and menu is elaborate without being too fancy

Something not quite right about seeing a Michelin star in Mountsorrel.

Cracking restaurant though!

Oh aye no doubt just these places are usually in Swithland, Woodhouse or Newtown Linford, not Sorrell.

I went there last December, it's like eating in a cottage bedroom. If fact you do eat in a cottage bedroom.

The ability to relax and enjoy the company was overshadowed by incessant attention of the waiters and sommelier.

I guess they are proud of the food and wine, quite rightly but I didn't find the ambiance at all relaxing.

Yeah you are basically in someone’s house, which is a bit of a shock considering it’s called John’s house...

I enjoyed it but I had the wine as well so was absolutely wankered.

Sat Bains was better though.

Is it still an Everards?

Beautiful Pubs mate, same as R + D and Knight and Garter, I know the R+D has Everard's affiliation still but not sure if the two companies are actually connected.

Very little in the actual City which is a shame…

Has the Three Swans had a take over?  Was always nice, but not spectacular…
