leicsmac Posted 17 July 2015 Posted 17 July 2015 Fast and full, he was so far back in his crease, it was a Yorker length. Still expect it to pop up though. 99% of the time when the ball has gone directly under the bat the pitch is to blame because it's kept low. Do agree however it's one he should have come forward to.
Simmo86 Posted 17 July 2015 Posted 17 July 2015 What's happened to the disgraceful shambolic dead pitch? None have fallen to a great ball though. Just woeful shot selection.

leicsmac Posted 17 July 2015 Posted 17 July 2015 Not when it's a Yorker it's not! He was so far back he made it look like a half volley, I think we had better agree to disagree on this one If his bat and body position makes the delivery a half volley then that's what it is, regardless of the length the bowler has put it down at. If he'd charged halfway down the track, it would have been a full toss. Hahaha, you're probably right.
Corky Posted 17 July 2015 Posted 17 July 2015 All we had to do is bat sensibly twice, they need 20 wickets and with rain around we didn't have to score huge runs and take them on. We can't win so dig in and don't be rash.

Haha, not when its pitched up in the block hole, Balance was to blame not the pitch, if he's standing so far back that a Yorker turns into a half volley he can expect some dubious bounce, if it had kept low from beyond the 5ft marks then fair enough, but it was a fast and full delivery of Yorker length, can't blame the pitch for the ball not bouncing when it's pitched so far up surely. I promise to leave it there! Come on England!
purpleronnie Posted 17 July 2015 Posted 17 July 2015 The forecast for sunday is awful, which might help us.
Super_horns Posted 17 July 2015 Posted 17 July 2015 Captain's innings from Cook? (He'll be out soon now..) The forecast for sunday is awful, which might help us. Aussies were relying on that last week....
CKB Posted 17 July 2015 Posted 17 July 2015 Shocking shot selection has put us in this position. Jury is very much out on Lyth, we don't seem to have two top openers since Strauss retired. Since then everyone has more or less failed, Carberry, Compton, Robson and now Lyth looks outta his depth I'm also very dubious on Ali as a spinner, he's done ok but I don't think it's working. He's not test standard and I think this project to make him into one may fail
fuchsntf Posted 17 July 2015 Posted 17 July 2015 Aussie have bowlers who on avg bowl 10-12km quicker, and can consistently hit full length and yorkers. ON this wicket, English bowlers bowled well, just maybe not enough occasional bouncers or full to yorker length was missing.Though at their speeds on this Wicket, they might of just offered full tosses But, and but again.... Shot selection, from Lythe, Root, and Bell was poor, at the wrong time, wrong ball. Ballance, just loses discipline and concentration too early...He for me should be backed, give him the series, then lets see. Bell, continues to lose concentration, leaves it in the dressing room continuously. He was the one > again< with his experience who should of showed common sense, he failed again, meaning with all his experience he just does not deliver when it matters. Next innings, he needs not 50-75 runs, he needs to stand up and be counted. He should lose his place if he cant hit a big century. He is mr class, but too many lows in his games, not enough highs since 2005 career begin. Ballance, at the moment seems not to believe himself, but to be fair h e was done by a peach today. Root and Lythe, need a clip around the ears....there is attacking England!!!, but like the Aussies had shown, attack means having ideas what shot selection means. Sloveny..!! Comes to mind. England can still save this, if they dont put themselves under pressure. Cook, Stokes, Moen, and Butler, can muster runs, by just holding back a little bit, not 100% but throttle down to 85%, Cook may need to throttle down to 45-50%.
BlueSi13 Posted 17 July 2015 Posted 17 July 2015 The match isn't over yet but FFS I'm so sick of this. Win-Loss-Win-Loss-Win-Loss-Win-Loss-Win-Loss etc etc etc, often by heavy margins.
Simmo86 Posted 18 July 2015 Posted 18 July 2015 These two going ok. Looking like the weather isnt going to help us tomorrow now either.
Ross-Kemp Posted 18 July 2015 Posted 18 July 2015 This is what Cooky is all about, 55 from 153 balls. Superb work from Stokes so far, 79 from 121 has complimented Cook brilliantly.
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 18 July 2015 Posted 18 July 2015 Briefly moving away from England, what's going on with Ireland in the world T20 qualifiers? They have been beaten by Papua NG and Hong Kong in their last 2 games! Niall O'Brien left out of the last game as well.
theessexfox Posted 18 July 2015 Posted 18 July 2015 Thought we did alright to hit over 300 from where we were, Aussies are in a totally dominant position though especially being none down at the close. I'm going tomorrow, expect to see Aussies pile on the runs and see us bat an hour or so before tea, hope for my sake the weather stays alright.
fuchsntf Posted 18 July 2015 Posted 18 July 2015 England...will save the match..1st Rain, then... Cook....72 Lythe...88 Ballnc.133 Bell.....147 no Root......57 no. game drawn.. 2 Rain hreaks

foxfanazer Posted 19 July 2015 Posted 19 July 2015 Huge task now, surely just playing for the draw right?
Strokes Posted 19 July 2015 Posted 19 July 2015 Huge task now, surely just playing for the draw right?Depends, the wicket has runs on it. We have the time but it's a huge total to hit at. Focus today on not giving anything away and see where we are at the end of play.
purpleronnie Posted 19 July 2015 Posted 19 July 2015 Huge task now, surely just playing for the draw right? err of course. We were doing that since the start of our 1st innings.
